Gedda, Rothenberger, Mattes..is all one can say! This music requires a, a command of German, b, appropriate style, c, the ability to sing the notes (and not octavate like JDF)... and the style issue applies to the conductor too!

Fred Smith yes I agree with you Gedda in Operetta was King so much better every note Florez sounds like a bleating sheep in comparison and Rothenburger was a favourite of mine also

@@andrejungels6255 No, the original libretto of this operette was in German, though Imre (Emmerich) Kalman was from Hungary, and It premiered in Vienna at the Johann Strauß-Theater. Kalman moved to Vienna after the success of his first and second operettes written in Hungarian and performed at Budapest.

Zweifellos. Thielemann ist einer der besten Dirigenten unserer Zeit. Ich würde ihn mit Zehta vergleichen.

Literalmente Anna opacó a Juan Diego. Y se notó furia muy fugazmente en su rostro me da la impresión de que Florez es un hombre demasiado vanidoso y ella lo bajó al piso de manera deapiadada.jajaja

They have good voices, but they should have done it by heart and I miss the passion, especially in Anna's voice and performance! Anneliese Rothenberger and Diana Damrau are way better at singing operetta arias. This role would have been really great for Diana Damrau.
