Anne Brontë daughter of Maria and Patrick Brontë, a poor Irish clergyman in the Church of England. Anne lived most of her life with her family in Haworth on the Yorkshire moors. In 1846 she published a book of poems with her sisters Charlotte and Emily Bronte who wrote under the pseudonym name Acton Bell. Her first novel, Agnes Grey, was published in 1847 with Wuthering Heights. Her second novel, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, was published in 1848. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is thought to be one of the first feminist novels.
Anne died aged only 29, probably of pulmonary tuberculosis. After Anne's death, her sister Charlotte took the job of edited Agnes Grey to fix issues with its first edition but she stopped the republication of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. This is one reason why Anne is not as well known as her sisters. Nonetheless, both of Anne's novels are considered to be classics.

Thank you - nicer to listen to you than all those academic Bronte scholars - you are honest, authentic, and nicely talk about Anne

I used to live at the house at the end near her grave and got married in St Marys. 8.25 on timeline When I was a kid there in late 60's and early 70's the grave wasn't too bad. At one time majority of the graves had wrought iron railings around, I have pictures of them, also the wall outside the church was, I assume they were taken down for the war effort in 1914. The house that looks like a castle was the summer home of John Atkinson Grimshaw who was born in Leeds. Anne had her funeral at Christchurch which is in the town it got demolished in late 80's, she stayed at a friend's boarding house near what is now the Grand hotel

It's got a beautiful double Bay Crystal but I've got to be honest I'm not a massive fan. There's no doubt that the views are fantastic, but it does seem a little bit like a small version of Blackpool not my personal favourite but it was great to see the location next to the castle of her grave.

I remember walking alongside that wall, with my partner, and we noticed Anne’s grave. That was around 2005.

Hello again Alan, what a pretty & picturesque place Howarth is, but then Yorkshire is a lovely part of the Planet isn't it, with its beautiful scenic countryside. Is Howarth also the place where 'last of the summer wine' was filmed? My mum & stepfather visited there on a coach trip, many years ago. Anyway, going back to the Brontees, their brother Branwell was an artist, and painted that picture of them all together, but apparently when they had a huge fall out, he then seperated himself from his sisters, and even erased himself out of the picture, you can see where he has painted himself out, and the gap where he once stood. Take care Alan. Bye for now.. Best wishes, Faye.

Hello Faye honestly, our face is a beautiful place. It's got the wild countryside around it and stay withering heights. You can walk to the ruin. It does. Have a great deal of atmosphere if you like. Wild and rugged. But last of the summer wine know I'm not going to tell you where it's filmed. You can watch one of my previous films. I visit the location. The bronte's work classic. They came forward as women writers under a pseudonyms because women were not allowed so they broke the mould. Thank you for the great comment. See you again I hope. Alan

How times have changed for us women, at one time we wasn't allowed to vote, but Dear Emiline Pankhurst put that one right in our favour! Thanks to her, women were given the right to vote. (I done a project on the Suffragettes at school, as part of my cse exams.) But to think that women even had to use different names as authors is realy surprising. It's as if women were underdogs in the past ?! And not to be taken seriously!? As I say, how times have now changed for women.

As you say, it's strange that Anne Brontee wasn't buried at Howarth with her other family, Maybe she had connections to Scarborough in some way, (?) was she married to someone who lived in Scarborough. (?)
