Rest In Peace, Mrs. Rice! I wrote a short story called “The Last Walk” about a fear of death because of this video giving me the courage. I was devastated to hear she passed away last night because Interview with the Vampire was so dear to me as a reader. I hope she is soaring high !

Jesus Christ, she's one of the worst people on the planet. She endorses child abuse as long as the child is a boy. She used to go on idiotic rant on Facebook. Hates men, hates white people, hates Christians, etc., gotta hate in there. If someone shot her in the head, I wouldn't weep.

@@tjjordan8994 Writing about is not endorsing, especially when she deals with the consequences of that abuse. The next bull is the typical republican spiel... "if you aren't a misogynist white supremacist like me, that means you hate men and white people!" And your comment about someone shooting her in the head is also the typical GOP fascist dreck and proves you don't actually have any empathy or decency like you were pretending to when you started your post.

The way Anne tells us in such a matter-of-fact way is so effective. "Are we just supposed to go home and give up? I didn't give up!" Damn right she didn't, and she is right on the mark when she says that most of the time its the writer thats holding themselves back. So to all my fellow aspiring writers, stop crying about how its hard to break into and that you need some form of support to do so.

"I gotta get to work because i want to find out what happens" That's the feeling you have to chase. There's nothing like it. It's the most fulfilling state i've ever been in. It has happened a few times in my life, but at some point it kind of stopped because i let myself get distracted by everything else around me and i feel like it took something away from my very being. I gotta get back to it. Have a great day, guys! Make it happen.

Great to hear such positive motivation from someone who has been extremely successful. So many times we hear how writing will cause us to tear out our hair and stab ourselves in the face, but then Anne Rice tells us that writing is "The most wonderful profession." And she was rejected a bunch! "To pretend that it has any purpose beyond suckling eroticism is rank hypocrisy," is a direct quote after she first published Interview With a Vampire, a book which has sold likely more than ten million copies as of today.

First, you need the imagination. The excitement to discover where your imagination could lead you will fire up your passion to create it. Let yourself dream. Then realize that what we imagine always, always ends up being more ugly when it sees reality. You have to chisel and refine it until you feel like it is close to what you imagined. Then you let it go into the world, and turn your obsession onto another dream.
