When I first heard the voice of Anne Lenner, singing with Carroll Gibbons. and the Savoy Orpheans, it was so good that I couldn't stop listening to it. That was 15 years ago. The Style, and perfect delivery of this lady is timeless; the music is absolutely wonderful. There is nothing in present time that compares. Thanks for sharing, i'd love ton see some live footage of Anne Lenner performing with Carroll Gibbons and the band. I have all the CDs

I had an Uncle His name was Len Franks in C.G's band when they played at the Savoy Hotel Anne Lenner was singing with the band I think, Frenchy Sartell played trumpet. I leep searching through hoping to find an photo with Him in it, so far no luck, But wasn't it all lovely and Tuneful.

This is just a beautiful piece all around. Gibbons was a genius with arrangements, apart from being a virtuoso at the piano. And the voice....oh, the voice. This piece and Gibbons others from this era, with Lenner singing, compare very favorably to the best that was coming from the states in this era...1938-41 or so. It's a shame that Gib, producing records in England, didn't get more exposure then.

Thank you for posting. Unfortunately I was born too late to listen to Anne in person at the Savoy. Her diction was perfect, unlike the so-called screaming stars of today.

Very nice thing to say about British dance bands, 1casey234 - and I'm an Aussie! I agree with you - they were something special - what memories even though a bit before my time they are evergreens.

Listening to this, I can almost feel the warmth of a distant summer day. If you like this, now go to "Dreaming" by Al Bowlly- same year, same music, but a completely different lyric, though just as moving as Anne Lenners version. Which do you prefer? I cant decide

To me, Anne Lenner was to band music what Al Bowlly was to Ray Noble and Lew Stone. The female equivalent of Al Bowlly. To be compared to him is the greatest compliment we can give because he was simply incomparable.
