It’s the hard knock life for us. 🧹🧺🧽 Sing along and head over to Sony Pictures Kids Zone for more full-length musical scenes from #Annie! ☀️ / sonypictureskidszone
ANNIE is the story of a plucky, red-haired girl who dreams of life outside her dreary orphanage. One day, Annie (Aileen Quinn) is chosen to stay for one week with the famous billionaire "Daddy" Warbucks (Albert Finney). One week turns into many and the only person standing in the way of Annie's fun is Miss Hannigan, the gin-soaked ruler of the orphanage (played to hilarious perfection by Carol Burnett). Will Miss Hannigan's zany attempts to kidnap the irrepressible Annie succeed? Enjoy all the unforgettable songs, including "It's A Hard Knock Life" and "Tomorrow."

@@tawouinnn Probably because there's a young girl with her dress up and you can see her in her underwear. Today, we censor that much more given the number of child predators there are in the world. And if that is still in the DVD, then you're possibly mistaken because while often the lyrics have them singing, "For us," after "Hard knock life," in that specific stanza of the song, the lyric does ends with just, "Hard Knock life." There. Two potential explanations depending on context. Hope that works.

To call this movie delightful is to grossly understate the facts. This is coming from a 50 year old African man. I lost my sister Annie 31st October 1991 and to this day it is the most painful episode in my half a century on this planet. I was in a video store in Harare Zimbabwe when the the title of this movie caught my attention. I rented it not knowing whether or not it was a good pick, took it to my parents home during the Christmas break of 1992. This movie helped heal my mom’s broken heart. She laughed, cried and laughed some more. It was the first time joy came back to our family. Crazy thing is my sister Annie was a black African version of the orphan Annie. She was famous for getting herself into all kinds of trouble as a kid mainly because she the soul of curiosity and did not do boredom well.

I have to agree. Setting up every shot took guts from the entire cast AND the choreography crew, and the director, and the entire camera crew. Ppl need to re-watch and look at how amazing it was to pull off. Just this one song. There were several flubs that needed to be reset and that took a strong head and heart. Fun fact: this one number took three and a half weeks to make. And we're watching just a few minutes!! This really is brilliant. Not to take anything from any other versions. It just needs respect. :)

@@creativesparks2164 Not sure what you are asking or stating. The vocals are overdubbed after the scene was shot. Vocals were recorded in a studio. There is no way you would be able to get the consistent level that they did in this scene. They are likely lip syncing the words. And I suspect most of the sounds from this scene were done, or at least enriched, afterwards as well (by a foley artist).

If you compare this to the new movie, you'll notice how much "safer" or simple the choreography in the newer movie is. These kids in this old original version are impressive. I couldn't do a lot of what they did. Also in the new movie, there are less orphans, the line about asking who is Santa is not a genuine question asked by the protagonist, and the kids appear "cleaner." Lol I think the original is most impressive. Amazing how time changes things.

@@contentiouscritic That just goes to show why you should not modernize a period piece. Take *Little Orphan Annie* out of the 1930s and everything falls apart, which is why the 1999 Disney movie and NBC's live one beat that piece of junk by a landslide. Is it really an adaptation of the same thing when it only has the title to go by and a few songs, but makes it just another standard rags to riches story interchangeable with any other? It doesn't resemble *Annie* at all beyond seeing a poor girl's life improve, and that is a stock story. See any other version, and you'll see what they have in common, even this which took such great liberties is still a decent movie unto itself. You could still tell what it was based on were the title different.

This rendition of "Hard-Knock Life" remains my favorite. The way the choreography/acting and cinematography/editing work together, *and* that score (I have yet to hear another orchestration that pulls in that horn section at 1:50-2:00)...so much creativity and careful coordination gave this number the cinematic treatment it deserves.
