National Museum of the Philippines posted about this "document" on their official FB page today. In all my days, never has anything given me a sense of origin like this Laguna Copperplate Inscription. It's as if, for the first time in my destitute, unimportant, uneventful Filipino life, I felt like I actually came from something... And that who I am now as a Filipino comes from way beyond what books and movies made me believe.

The date is of Saka calendar, on Laguna copper plate(as he mentioned). The Saka calendar is the Indian Hindu calendar and also the king's name Jayadeva is Hindu/sanskrit. It is believed that if not completely Hindu, Filipinos used to have their own diwatas(yes, diwata is the Hindu word for god's/dieties)and Hindu ones too who they worshipped, so a sort of mix of the indigenous culture and Hindu culture of India.

The earliest known evidence for written literature in the history of the Philippines, the Laguna Copperplate Inscription is a sheet of copper metal with ancient writing discovered in the province of Laguna in 1989. It was found by a dredger working near the mouth of the Lumbang River emptying out into Laguna de Bay. From there the plate made its way to the National Museum of the Philippines, where the Dutch anthropologist Antoon Postma recognised the writing on the plate as being akin to Kawi, an ancient Javanese script. This allowed him to translate the text on the plate, the findings of which he published in 1992. One of the findings was that-luckily-it was very explicitly dated to the 21st of April, 900 C.E.. The text was hammered out onto the copper sheet in Old Kawi script, but the language appears to be in Old Malay, with substantial elements of Sanskrit, Old Javanese and Old Tagalog mixed in, making the entirety sound like an early case of code-switching. The document is essentially a royal debt pardon, issued by the Kingdom of Tondo ("Tundun"), officially releasing the heirs of the late Namwaran from a debt in gold amounting to a rough equivalent of 926 grams. Tondo, based on the north bank of the Pasig River delta, where it empties into Manila Bay. Today it survives as a mere electoral district of the city of Manilanote -and is both a poverty-stricken Wretched Hive and a notorious Gangster Land to boot. How the Mighty Have Fallen, indeed. Still, Tondo was by no means the most powerful entity mentioned by name, as its leader invokes the authority of successively higher rulers across the region, suspected either to be elsewhere in Luzon, the Visayas to the south, or as far south as Java and Medang. To this day, the copperplate remains as part of the permanent exhibit of the National Museum of Anthropology, a subdivision of the National Museum Complex in the City of Manila. East Indies: The pre-Philippine cultures suggested and mentioned in the plate paint a picture similar to the rest of the precolonial kingdoms across maritime Southeast Asia.Everyone Has Standards: There is no context in the plate to suggest that the ruler of Tondo could be considered force Namwaran's children to pay their now dead father's debts.Averted with the chief of Tondo, who magnanimously forgives the late Namwaran's debts by not passing them on to his family, although the plate doesn't specify how Namwaran got into debt in the first place (and whether his creditors didn't try to pursue him in life).

One of ancient map dat identify a place was written in Chinese character "Luzoon Kingdom", and dats d ancient name wat is now Pampanga w/a bigger territory dat now composed d present 6 provinces of Central Luzon. Dat early, d western colonial goverment did not retained d old name, instead did to mislead his subjects by creating new spanish name provinces & claim dat dey founded dat place in dier honor.

@@safuwanfauzi5014 Sundaland is not even referring to the archipelago. It was the ancient continental landscape of 3 islands prior to the ice age. It does not have any real meaning nowdays and is not even a relevant topic outside paleogeographical debate. But then again You just loved to lump every other social entities in this region as malay race (while austronesian would be the correct term anthropologically, and Nusantara geographically). Go on. If it suits you. I dont know why people like you keep using a term so outdated on having misconception of mixing Malay (anthropologic) + archipelago (geohraphic) in one phrase. While malay internationally, had been casted down as a mere ethnic rather than a race, which should be already debunked this misconcpetion and mis understanding of a malay archipelago

I checked my calendar April 21, 900 was indeed Monday. No need to convert the date to Gregorian Date because it happened before October 4, 1582. We don't convert March 16, 1521 to Gregorian date.

Srivijaya became an empire during the reign of Sailendra Dynasty of Java. And the capital was Medang, in centra java so during its height its common for inscritpion using Kawi /Javanese old script

Sir Kirby, good afternoon! I been so impressed by your extensive knowledge of our country's history. You helped me a lot. However, the Laguna copper plate is not something new to me. We you take my view that the unidentified Kingdom of Ma-i is the same as the prominent and ancient town of Bae Laguna which is supposed to be the actual name of the Lake now called Laguna De Bay or the Lake of Bae? The Laguna copper plate inscription is in the vicinity of Bay or Bae Laguna. I loosely postulated this since the Spanish is notorious when it comes to pronouncing Local words so probably instead of Ma-i, they pronounced it asBa-eh or Baÿ. Also, the copper plate which is a legal document is curiously being earth in the area may be a tell-tell tale. Bay has been around since the 9th century and is considered the oldest town in Laguna. Hope you could read this.

You really did not explain the meaning of the laguna copperplate and the importance of the encryption. You just used a bunch of tagalog sweet nothing. But i can give you a credit of not bastardizing the tagalog words not like the millennials of today.

This was an introductory video back when KZfaq algorithms favored shorter videos. It was meant for the many Filipinos who are not even familiar with the Laguna Copperplate, for those who may not even be aware that such an artifact exists. Not everything can fit in under 10mins.
