ANOTHER Broken 2018 MacBook Pro From eBay for $700 - Can I Fix It?

KZfaq Comments Helped Me Fix A MacBook Pro - Liquid Damage! In my last MacBook Pro repair video (link below) I tried to fix a liquid damaged computer that I bought for $865 but couldn't figure it out. Luckily, I received some great tips for diagnosing the problem in the video comments that I'm using in this video. I identified and replaced a faulty CD3215 chip which fixed the charging problem but the computer still wouldn't turn on. I decided to let it charge fully and then try again... and it worked!
But now that I've fixed my first Apple computer I've gotta keep at it so I bought another broken MacBook Pro (for about $700) to see if I can go 2 for 2. The case on this one looked pretty beat up but once I got it opened up it looked pretty good inside... except for a lot of liquid damage. The computer also wouldn't charge and I identified a shorted ISL9240 chip and a seriously damaged USBC port. This one's going to be tricky to fix though since ISL9240 chips aren't easy to come by. I guess I'll have to try to finish fixing this one in another video.

I’m in my last trimester of Electrical Engineering and I wanted so bad a class that showed exactly this. I would love to pay for a repair/troubleshoot course from this guy. I feel that I didn’t learned enough, even from taking an advance electronic course. Engineering is more focused on “design” rather than repairing and fixing (which I’m more interested in). Keep the great work and explaining things as you do!

@JohnDoe-bd5sz
@JohnDoe-bd5sz 4 жыл бұрын
Just an incredible waste of ressources to have to buy a whole case, just to scavenge a single chip. Apple should be forced to sell these chips to anyone, wanting to buy them. It is VERY clear that apple is actively trying to defeat the posibility of repairing their product, to force people to scrap them and buy new products and they should be heavily penalised for it. It is stupid that i have to sort my garbage into 4 different bins, cars have to meet ever increasing demands for emissions and there is a lot of research on how to minimize the use of materials in all sort of everyday things, but apple is allowed to make their own chargers with their own power connector, and refuse people to buy a $2 chip, to repair their computer, and instead have to throw it away and buy a new one.
@paolomonai9511
@paolomonai9511 4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-bd5sz This is too far good common sense to be understandable for the mean Apple addicted customer....I totally agree with you: Apple should be OBLIGATED to make spare parts available for fixing, otherwise no more business allowed. This is my opinion.

You're not Rossman, but YOUR channel is a good mix of story-telling with good editing. Rossman is just a record-and-go channel, which is good if you like looking over somebody's shoulder which I often do. Your channel is good to watch while eating or in my case coding so keep the unique style.

Great job giving credit where it was due and listening to your viewers. You are someone I would trust to fix something. At least until I get the bill. 😆

Hello, Thanks for your great videos. Would you be able to do a full step by step tutorial on how to disassemble the new 16” MacBook Pro? I would like to apply a new high quality thermal paste. Not to mention I did that for my PS4 Pro and cleaned it up and works like a charm. Thank you!
