I beat Recollection yesterday. It was my first exposure to this series but ever since playing the demo last month, I've been hooked on Ashley, D, the stories around them and yeah I'm a huge fan now lol. It's also been really fun looking into the originals and spotting changes made, because there's quite a few, both in terms of story and puzzles, especially in R. The puzzles make sense, the originals were so tied to the hardware they released on, but the story stuff is very intriguing. It's funny too because Suzuki did indeed return for writing, I really hope interviews with her come out to explain what inspired her to make certain changes. But overall loved the experience, Ashley is honestly probably my new favorite Nintendo protagonist period, and now I am in the mood to check out Famicom Detective Club as another example of Nintendo ADV game support. I do consider myself an adventure game fan, especially of Ace Attorney as an old favorite and Sakura Wars being my previous newest love, and Another Code has definitely joined those ranks, and I look forward to the former Cing crew's work

One of my favorite things about Nintendo is their willingness to publish various titles that aren't destined for greatness. Starfy, Sin and Punishment, Custom Robo, Card Hero, The Last Story, hell they're even willing to give some of them remakes like Another Code, Advance Wars, and even Famicom Detective Club! It really helps make their consoles and legacy stand out.

Another Code is my #1 favorite game ever, and I imported the sequel to play it in North America. It was very surprising to see Another Code make a return in the september direct, since CiNG went bankrupt over 10 years ago. It’s not very often that such an obscure series gets a rivival from Nintendo, so I’m so glad that more people will be able to experience these games’ story. I don’t expect the remakes to retain the hardware dependent puzzles, which is totally understandable. Though I do recommend looking up the puzzles that used the DS and Wii in creative ways.

This was a wonderful insight into the series history! I played both games when I was young and fell in love with them. Playing through Recollection recently felt surreal and was a wonderful experience. It gives me hope that we may yet see more of Ashley, and that some of the Nintendo games thought lost to time may not be completely forgotten (if The Last Story ever gets a remake or remaster, I will weep tears of joy xD)

Thank you so much for this video. While I already have watched some retrospectives about the games after it’s announcement, it’s always good to continue talking about these lesser known series.

I'm a big fan of the two original Another Code games, I'm concerned with how well they can translate to the Switch however considering one of the main appeals of those games is how they take advantage of the very specific features of their respective consoles to solve puzzles. How will things like closing the DS's lid or opening the Wii's home menu to solve puzzles work on the Switch?

I recall seeing it on X-play back in the day, I did not buy it at the time as it did not get a very good score, and $50.00 was alot of money to invest for a teenager with limited allowance. I played the demo recently, and I'll be honest I don't really care for this game all that much in 2024, seeing as this was one of the first Japanese style adventure games to be made widely available in the west by Nintendo themselves I can understand why some would be Nostalgic for it. But I've long since played games dozens of games that do what Another Code R does and do it better, I also don't find the character or story all that interesting (I don't know if that's me going into this series as a 35 year old, or if my tastes in games like this are just different now since I've already played dozens of games like it) but I also find the game itself to be kind of boring and slow considering it's completely rendered in 3D and it takes awhile to travel from one area to another. Most games mitigate this by having simple 2D assets or 2D visual novel settings. The price is also a big turn off for me, $60.00 is more then I'm willing to pay for a game like this, especially since there are already dozens of Japanese adventure style games available on the Switch Eshop for much cheaper, I'd probably at most pay $20-$30 for a game like this at most, but not $60.

Card Hero is the franchise I would most like to hear about, but Custom Robo is a close second. The Nintendo DS is a treasure trove of fascinating projects published by Nintendo, like Kurikin Nano Island Story, Slide Adventure Magkid, Exclamation Warriors Sakeburein, Super Control Mecha MG, Soma Bringer, and Fossil Fighters.
