This guy is amazing. Was lucky enough to see his son Vieux in concert.. they go into such a transe with all the cycles and call and responses.... you can really hear the evolution from this to Kimbrough. Loving your channel so far!

I am so glad you made this one! I've always liked Ali Farka Touré and Boubacar Traoré but this vidéo especially is a gold nugget. There is such a good mood with this two talented friends playing on a sunny afternoon with there cigarette stuck in the guitar neck ! I am not surprised you liked it. Keep doing your nice job my friend !

Great video. This style has been around for a long time. AF Toure won a Grammy in 1994 for best World music album for work that he did with Ry Cooder. That being said, I’ve waited 20 years for this lesson.😂 Love this channel. Many thanks!

I saw Boubacar Traoré play a few months ago in Germany. At the ripe age of 81 he is still commanding the stage, his voice filling the room and guitar playing as slick as ever. One of the more special moments of my life seeing the The Grandfather of West African Blues music ❤️ We would love for you to pay homage to him and Ali Farka Touré in more videos - they both have a deep discography and plenty of depth to their playing and musicality. 🙏

usually for desert blues its easier to play when you tune the low E-string to a G...so the tuning is usually GADGBE instead of the standard tuning. They didn't tune for this one and just played in the key of A minor. But if you check out players like Mdou Moctar, Tinariwen and Bombino they almost always tune it in that way. Also the picking is usually done with the index and thumb only since they have this hammer-ons which makes it difficult to play with all fingers. But I like your insight to this song. I was happy when I first figured it out.

Love this, and really enjoyed the two dudes jamming. They remind me of a couple of guys I just met down in Nassau. One of them also had an old Takamine guitar. He played almost all bar chords with these fingers that looked like they were carved out of mahogany. I was talking to him when they got through playing and he too it off to show me the action. There must have been at least 1/4 inch at the 12th fret. Hurt my hand just looking at it. Keep up the great work, and hope to be able to swing your lessons soon.

Quite good and interesting basically it is the pentatonic and Am and Dm, but with this repetitive rhythm you are transported to Mali where this desert blues is played by these musicians, I always wanted to have a go at it, thanks for your video, and yes more please. 🌈

Thank you for making Ali Farka songs. I would be your leading follower. It is a pure Am pentatonic with a slide. A little correction (a single note of course. ) The opening phrase begins like 1.e5 2.e5 3.b5 4.b8 5.b5 6.g5 6.g7 7.g7 8.d7 9.d5 10.d7...... And the leading phrase (follows the audio melody) follows like 1.g5 2.g7 =>g9 3.b8 4.g7 5.g5 6.g7 7.d7 8.g7 .......

It's great that you've dipped into this sub-genre, and I think your explorative approach is great also. For another great example of desert blues, you might enjoy "Soubour" by Songhoy Blues, and/or their track 'Sahara' which was a collaboration with Iggy Pop. (ps I enjoy your channel as a whole).

Hi, I was just playing it in standard tuning and transposing it in my head. I think they were tuned down about 1/3 step below E standard and just tuned by ear. So like a little above Eb standard and a little below E standard. Hope this helps- thanks for watching!
