Agreed. Its tax deductible if he uses it on his channel. So now he has multiple cars, boats and motorcycles all written off. Did we see jetski's, snowmobiles or RV's yet? I'm waiting to see what Mrs Wizard branches into. Its kind of a 70's TV spinoff arch gone off the rails. I suppose he could do large construction equipment. Then some relative could do a home improvement insane pools branch and trick out Hoovie's back forty. Clearly Big Daddy DeMuro (whose success just baffles me) is the guy who started this insanity. Then again - I watch it - so I am an enabler.

Thinking about trading mine in for something else in the spring but unfortunately they don't make to many power cruisers so it's looking like either a Hayabusa or maybe one of the triumph rocket triples. These low output v twins seem like about as much fun as a walk to the mailbox.

Nothing sounds like a shovel head! I owned a 77 FLHT for over twenty years and in 2004, bought a new FLHT. Love the Twin Cam but, there is a hill I have to climb on the way home from work. I have to downshift into 4th gear to climb. That old shovel would climb it in 4th (only had 4 gears) like it wasn’t even there. And the SOUND that came out of it from about half way up that hill to the top made my day!!

I never understood the attraction until I exploded my transmission and a friend gave me his shovelhead to ride until my bike was repaired. I think it took less than a week and I got it. My latest Harley is a 2013 FLHTK I purchased new that just turned 129,000 miles today. All back roads and mountains and I love, love, love it and so does my wife. Good for you Mr. Wizard. I had a '79 FXE in the 90's. No, it didn't have it's original "boat tail", just a standard, later, rear fender. I rebuilt it from the frame up and it was a fantastic bike on the highway. They're good bikes if you do the work on them. At this point, any surviving AMF era Harleys have had their AMF build "quality" corrected.

You can't spend money and make a twin cam sound like a shovel. Mechanic I know had a guy come in and say he wanted his bike to sound like a shovel, no limit to cost. So my buddy said come back in 2 weeks. He had a shovel, painted it the same color, changed a few other things to make it a little like the twin cam in appearance...bars, seat, mirrors...stuff like that. It actually ended up looking like the brother to the twin cam. The guy cam back for his bike. At first he was not amused, but he bought that shovel for the asking price. It was more reasonable to make a shovel look like his twin cam than to make a twin cam sound like a shovel, in fact it is impossible wo make a twin cam sound like a shovel. Nice bike. Didn't know you ride. I've enjoyed your videos.

I love Harleys. I currently have 2, a 1989 FXRS Low Rider, and a 2006 Sportster 1200L. Both EVO engines, both carbureted. NO EFI for me. I am 62, and have been ridding since age 8. I started out on a small dirt bike. I've owned over 50 bikes in my life, most of them Japanese. I have owned 4 Harleys total, all bought used, all EVOs. I would like to get an Ironhead Sportster, but I think a Shovelhead might be more than I can deal with. They are not known for their reliability. A 1980 means AMF, and their quality often left a lot to be desired. I had a 1966 Triumph Bonneville back in the mid '80s, and currently have a 2013 Royal Enfield B5 Bullet. It came with EFI, but I converted it to an Amal carb. I probably have more miles on motorcycles than I do in cars. I know it's over a million. Anyway, nice bike. I love the "patina" It's actually been ridden. Too many Harleys are used mostly as show bikes. I actually had one Harley owner brag to me about his $10K paint job. Both my Harleys are rubber mounted, and they will still shake your teeth out. The engines move in the frame. The vibration smooths out at highway speeds, but at idle they are shakers. To me that shake and the sound are what a Harley is all about. IMO, H-D ruined their bikes with the new M8 engine, which has a balance shaft, and doesn't shake. I test rode an M8 Road Glide, and I might as well have been on a Goldwing. So smooth and quiet you could hear the gear whine. I want the shake and that special sound that only Harleys make.

I never wanted to own a Harley. I like the way most of them sound. I like to look at how an owner modified it. Never wanted to own one. Then my bro-n-law needed to sell his 98 Fat Boy. My wife bought it and we brought it home. It truly has been a pleasure to own and to ride. I think the exhaust that came on it (Screamin Eagle) has to be the best sounding Evo ever. It just fits. I can't ride it off on long trips, because that softail absolutely beats the snot out of me. But its a great at-home/local bike. As I've said, its great to be seen on. And heard. Cut the cam chest to clearance an Evolution cam lobe. There are aftermarket tools to perform this exact procedure, S&S makes them for example. Buy a set of Evolution rockers and shave them 0.100 on the valve end. They will now fit inside Shovelhead rocker boxes. Buy Evolution lifter blocks and Evolution lifters. Buy Rivera Taperlight pushrods drilled specifically for this conversion. Contact Woods Performance and order a cam shaft ground for this conversion. Order a HVHP oil pump from S&S. Also purchase the oil pump pressure relief passage drill jig from S&S. You now have a Shovelhead with Evolution valve train. The sound will not change. Thank me when the valve train lasts 100,000 miles instead of 25,000 like a stock Shovelhead would.

I had a rubber mounted Shoved in 80. It originally belonged to David Allen Coe. He traded it in Salina. I hated the big fairing, but it was the best riding Bike I'd ever had. They go down the road like a champ. I have an original 79 Service manual if you need one... You might want to get that off reserve. Nothing feels worse than the bike starting to sputter and you reach down and find you are already on reserve. ( Don't ask how I know) And that main shaft leak. That's a feature, not a defect... It'll never go away...:)

That 'kick stand' is called a 'Jiffy stand'...center kick stands had two points of contact with the ground and the bike had to be rocked back onto it. They held the bike perpendicular to the ground. But the weight of big bikes was too much for most owners to use without help.

only the harley crowd uses that term (jiffy stand). everyone else uses kick stand and center stand

Great bike wizard! People knock on the AMF shovelheads but it was AMF that set the evolution motor development in motion.

Great choice Wizard!! I’ve got an 83 FXR Shovel which is also rubber mounted with a 5 speed. I’m actually taking an 85 FLT dual headlight fairing and mounting it on my 93 FLHTP those were the pre cursor to the Road Glide. FLT also had larger bags than the FLH back then. Good luck with it

I had a 1973 Harley FL Police Special with the Shovel engine. Some of that oil drip might be your automatic Rear chain oiler. It runs off the oil pump too. Now I ride a 1988 Harley FLHTC Evo engine Electra Glide Classic. I get the potato potato sound just by dialing down the idle speed. Experts say you don't get enough oil pressure idling below 1100 rpm but I don't care. It is too cool and I don't idle it that much. You can't get that sound with a fuel injected Harley because they are absolutely programmed not to idle under 1100. I really wanted an FLT but they are rare. I looked at doing an FLH to FLT conversion but wow, there are a lot of parts to change. BTW was your 1979 and my 1988 were built for the 55 mph National speed limit. I cruise fine at 75 mph but I am running high revs. The sweet spot is 60 mph.

Awsome. My dad has have a 2003 100th year anniversary road king classic. Gun metal blue. We built a temp controled room in the garage for it. Barely driven. I remember when it was delivered. I was in third grade.

Mrs. Wizard said exactly the same thing I was thinking, I remember the yamaha video, something about not feeling yours legs... My guess is that if you loose some weight you won't have those problems anymore.. Congratulations Car Wizard, enjoy!

The conflict with Mrs. Wizard is stressful, hopefully it was played up a bit for the camera. You guys seem to be two peas in a pod, such a good match. Cool to see, though. Some of my favorite college professors were real Harley people so it's neat to learn a bit more about them.
