It was the puddle shot for me too. I literally turned to the people with me and said "Wow!" It was the most beautiful shot I've ever seen in a movie. I cried when Riff and Bernardo died. They made those characters come alive. I felt in when Tony realizes that Maria is dead and then his joy when he sees her. It was a splendid movie.

How is watching someone who was accused of sexually assaulting an underage girl sing romantically to underage girl the best shot? 🤢
@ddot9566
@ddot9566 2 жыл бұрын
@@crystalenergy7904 A shot is a series of frames that runs for an uninterrupted period of time. Admiring a shot means to take notice of the great work of the director and cinematographer. It has nothing to do with the actors. That’s why I called it “the puddle shot”. Unless you have a problem with water because it has been accused of drowning people.

@@crystalenergy7904 One could ask the same question of you Crystal, but I will answer your rather impertinent question anyway. I am here because I enjoyed the movie and wanted to hear the all of the actor's thoughts on making it. I'm not going to stop watching cast interviews. I'm not going spread my opinions about Ansel Elgort's guilt or innocence on videos that were created to celebrate a movie that many people worked on and dedicated a lot of time and energy into making. The allegations came out months after shooting for WSS wrapped. I don't see the benefit of taking the spotlight off the movie to rail against one of the actors. There is a time and a place for dealing with your anger and frustration about what has happened. I choose to allow that to be decided in a court of law, not the court of public opinion. BTW, if you do find that shot on youtube, send me the link. I'd love to see it again.

@@ddot9566 The benefit of taking the spotlight off their "hard work" is that he gets held accountable for his actions and people dont just forget or sweep it under the rug because they enjoy a movie or some piece of meaningless entertainment. The whole cast support him and dont deserve it anyway. Everyone involved had a choice to not have him partake in press and do these little interviews like nothing happened and they chose to give him a platform. Its sad that anyone supports this movie or isnt grossed out by watching it.

I just watched this film and Ansel Elgort is so talented it’s such a shame he’s accused of sexual assault. What’s wrong with these young men who have just everything going for them, the whole world at their feet and he’s gonna do something so stupid and shitty like that? Poor girl. It’s like there is a disconnect from the real world. You can try to separate his performance in this movie to what he’s being accused of but believe me it’s difficult. Iconic film. However still frustrated at a few things being a Mexican American. Like 1: Why does a Latin girl not get a happy ending? 2: Why was the division and hatred and killing one another not addressed at the end of the film? 3: Why is the main white male character still portrayed as a hero, who even though he KILLS a brown man, his sister still continues to love him and ignore this fact? Idk bout you all pero this all still irks me. The hate and division is never addressed. The only great part in my opinion, was seeing Rita Moreno's character as Victoria who was trying to help BOTH sides.

@biancacorrea1613 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I mean the whole movie is about racism and inequality and poverty. The division doesn’t have to be addressed, the ending on its own is addressing it in a way. It’s not just the latin girl getting an unhappy ending, everyone has an unhappy ending. Their entire fight was pointless, since everyone lost someone important. That was their way of addressing it. Also, Maria does know that Tony is a murderer, and she even calls him one. But I guess she’s just very unhealthily attached to Tony 🤷‍♀️
@mousyryan7630
@mousyryan7630 2 жыл бұрын
The reason for the divide and unhappy ending is primarily the source material. Romeo and Juliet is about past prejudices which result in a devastating ending. There are no “good” characters in the end. Tony kills Bernardo (despite his initial intentions), Maria stays with the man who murdered her brother (not dissimilar to the death of Juliet’s cousin at Romeo’s hands), the two sides fight brutally, and Anita betrays her friend. A story made up of grey characters is deeply important when portraying reality. Tony isn’t a hero; he does terrible things. However, he is a victim (much like every member of the gangs) of the hatred they are subject to. Everyone is failed by the system so fundamentally that they eventually become part of the cycle. Tony tried to make a fresh start, but his loyalty brings him back into the conflict where he ultimately falls apart. This usually good trait, when applied to something bad, reveals the true issues; good kids can be drawn into trouble extremely easily. The ending does show unity, however, as both sides unite to remove Tony’s body. It shows a unity in mourning and loss, driven by Maria and Tony’s relationship. Everyone suffers in one way or another.

It's not the job of a movie to make a moral point. If you want answers to life's deep tragedies, go to church, talk to a pastor, study the Bible. etc. This world will not give you the resolution you are craving. Trust me.

Your generation is uneducated and tend to get offended easily. The show is actually about coming together but this movie missed the key ending. Maria is supposed to be wearing a black shawl around her shoulders. As she is crying, a Shark places her shawl over her head as a symbol of shared grief and mutual understanding. When Tony’s body is lifted by the Jets, they stumble under his weight and the Sharks rush in to help and, together, they carry Tony. A symbol of forgiveness and unity
