Can safari become beast with differential-lock, and traction control system?

anshuman bhai, waiting for a Tata Hexa to join the club & later in the year Skoda Kodiak....ur videos are awesome. Love to watch.
@subhan123407 жыл бұрын
rahul rai Don't know about HEXA but Kodiak does not have the ample ground clearence required for off road. I guess it would be OK only on dirt roads..

Superb video guys... Rear Diff lock(MLD) in the thar made all the difference. Fortuner passed through due to better articulation and GC from Ironman setup. Would love to test the new Fortuners electronic 4*4 system in such conditions, ideally it should transfer the torque to the wheels with traction by applying brakes to the slipping ones.
@rohitdhanda20617 жыл бұрын
nitin rathi Active Traction Control, even we are keen to try new Fortuner in such conditions to understand the effectiveness of A-TRAC system. Sadly not having access to new gen Fortuner so far... some fine day I guess!

incorrect way of pulling. need to pull in the direction of steering. with proper angle even a gypsy can take the safari out.. also when ur diff touches there is no point in digging more.. also when u know your diff will touch pls give slight momentum while approching the obstacle.. i am a regular offroader and jeeper thats why sharing. no offences guys.
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Once the car starts moving, steering can be corrected in no time, this is soft sand, not hard surface
@rohitdhanda20617 жыл бұрын
Anshuman Dasani no offence taken and thanks for the tips. We realised the diff was touching on the ground later only coz initially we thought Storme was lying on its chassis. Recovery from rear was lot easier and Storme was pulled out with minimal effort... 😄

1. Sourabh is clearly in learning mode. :) 2. After the Storme beached and was pulled and pushed, the crest of the pit reduced just enough, should have been measured pro actively IMO. 3. The Endy and the Storme have longer wheelbases and hence had a tough time compared to the Thar. The Isuzu was too fast but momentum helped it a lot. The Thar is also lighter and has greater articulation along with a shorter wheelbase.
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
+Devdath N We did a separate test here, LSD vs MLD vs Open diffs, Ill post a separate video on that later, LSD is only good on paper. Everything else than Thar and Fortuner crossed because of momentum. Storme and Endy were getting stuck because of lack of momentum. Not only Sourabh, all of us are in learning mode.
@devdathn7 жыл бұрын
The Fortuner didnt have too much of it as well. It was able to pull through due to better articulation, ground clearance and lower gearing.
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Only because of better suspension, Fortuner has no gearing advantage, low range gearing is identical to Thar.

Anshuman sir, I saw the specs of the storme at carwale website but it showed that the storme doesn't have LSD at rear axle............. and what is the difference between LSD and differential locks???
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
You can ask them to update the information then, it is a typo/error on their part. For exact information, prefer to use manufacturer website, open the Storme official website, download the brochure, its mentioned in features list just below the 4x4 system.

It was a cake walk for Mahindra Thar due to power-weight ratio, Isuzu as expected the bull, and the reason why Toyota Fortuner made it is because of the off-road spec tyres which none other had. Without the right tyre, even the most powerful SUVs will struggle.
@Anshyuman6 жыл бұрын
I disagree with your analysis, Thar does not have best power to weight ratio, Fortuner has A/T tyres just some other cars in this video. This is not about best tyres either, its about articulation or locking type differentials.

Anshuma/ Rohit : how did all time 4wd works in fortuner, does it runs on rear wheels on flat tar roads and whenever required it transfer power to front wheels like an AWD vehicle or it continuously supply power to all wheels..plz brief me about this
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Ill post a video on this soon, to show how does the full time 4wd in unlocked mode behaves in rough, how power is transferred and all. Stay tuned!
@rohitdhanda20617 жыл бұрын
manish singh full time 4WD keeps 40:60 split with centre diff unlocked with some amount of slip which is required to drive in full time 4WD without damaging the drive train... once you lock the centre diff then the power split becomes 50:50 front and rear. Open diffs front and rear in Fortuner means effectively it is not a true 4x4 and behaves like a 4x2 IF one of the tires EACH on front and back diffs lose their grip.
@rohitdhanda20617 жыл бұрын
manish singh also, Fulltime 4WD Fortuner never runs on rear wheel even on tar roads, the power goes to all 4 wheels in 40:60 split, hence the balance and control of the vehicle is better than RWD SUVs, and this is further enhanced by upgraded suspension in my car.
@manishsingh10267 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining Rohit...your fortuner is one Beast

What is the major difference between a electronic differential and a mechanical one?
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Do you mean differential lock?
@vivekarora41347 жыл бұрын
Anshuman Bishnoi Yes
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Between Electronic and Mechanical just the engagement system is different, final result is same. If you are talking about usage of 'mechanical' word in MLD, then its sort of misleading, its actually an Autolocker, with automatic engagement but mechanical functioning.

sir, which is the better option for a better 4x4 offroader + family car too in 15 lc.

the only way to test torsional rigidity of the chassis. I think I observed Vcross, Thar and Safari a bit flexing, or maybe just the camera angle
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
+Rujul Satpute Cars with ladder frame chassis do not flex, very rare, XUV on the same place has real bad body flex, if you open the boot door its impossible to close again if one rear tyres is in air.
@revo697 жыл бұрын
Anshuman Bishnoi Right. so amongst the lot which saw the least flex?. I assume it's the Fortuner or maybe then the Thar?

@shreyraj227 жыл бұрын
i am considering buying an isuzu dmax vcross, I'll be using it mostly for outstation trips and some off roading as well. do you think the absence of lockable diff will cause problems as evident from most of your videos where the dmax gets stuck easily? (I won't plough a farm with it for sure).
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Depends on how extreme your offroading will be, long wheelbase and long rear overhang apart, it is good even without locking rear diff. Even if you decide to get a rear lock diff later on, you can buy it from aftermarket, Airlocker or E locker, your choice.

@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Anyways with independent suspension, it would have failed miserably.
@vivekarora41347 жыл бұрын
Sir, I have a silly doubt that a diff. lock basically provides traction to the wheel stuck in mud or sand and a rear diff. lock is preferred more than a front diff lock when one has to turn at the same time . So basically why does one need it on trails like sandakphu . Is there a possibility of the vehicle losing traction on such rocky terrain ?
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
I don't think rear diff lock is a requirement for Sandakhphu, you just need short gearing and 4x4.
@vivekarora41347 жыл бұрын
Anshuman Bishnoi Isn't it one of the reasons why duster struggles to do the trail apart from it being an AWD and not 4x4.
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Duster does not have low range gearing reduction, that's why it requires good control over clutch and momentum or else it will struggle.
@vivekarora41347 жыл бұрын
Anshuman Bishnoi Thank you :-) Your videos are an absolute delight to watch. I also would love to see some content explained by you and your group on how various mechanical components of 4wd vehicles function (for example MLD vs LSD etc.)

hi Anshuman, Thanks for another exciting video. Can you please help me with some info? Why that storme stuck two times? Is this because of GC or something else?
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Because we asked him to move slowly, but without locking diffs there was no way out except for momentum. We had intentionally dug the ruts real bad earlier with V-Cross in 2wd mode and Fortuner in fulltime 4wd in unlocked mode.
@vatzcar7 жыл бұрын
Okay, again, were the tyres of storme good enough or could different tyres be able to give better performance?
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
Thar has the same tyres, see the results, tyres are not the weakest link here.
@vatzcar7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Anshuman for taking the time to reply :+1:
@Anshyuman7 жыл бұрын
And in Sand if the going gets tough, just drop the tyre pressure and the same H/T tyres will work like a dream, but on uneven ground where a locking diff is desirable neither good tyres nor dropped pressure will help much.
