A couple of months ago (sorry for the delay) I put up an "Ask Me A Question" on my Instagram Story. I got so many great questions and did my best to answer as many of them as possible. By far the most asked questions were "Why do you choose a YZ250X?" and "Tell me more about your electric starter!" So I took some time to answer those questions at the end of the video. But yeah, hopefully lots of good info in here for you all from Bike Setup to Riding Techniques and Mind Set talk!
Although the starter is not yet available, you can head over to fischmoto.com/pages/sign-up and sign up for their newsletter! Do this and you'll be the first to know when the starter is available!!
Huge thanks to the sponsor of this video www.pgmotorsports.ca/, it's so rad that they support my efforts like they do!
Be sure to LIKE, COMMENT AND SUBSCRIBE. Next up is an in depth look at my approach to Trail Cutting!

Front of the peg!! I like climbing with the ball of my foot right on the centre of the peg, but I can see how sliding up on the peg could give that forward pressure we are all searching for. Maybe it will help me get used to the foot position required to land on top of something while covering the rear brake too. I'm okay with brake taps in the air to level out but not when landing on the rear wheel when trying to find holding pressure. Thanks for the tips, epic video!! 🤘🤘

Awesome! I'm definitely going to use the front part of the peg next ride!! My tip.I like to ride as slow as possible on hills I've pretty much mastered already, focusing on clutch/throttle/balance, even coming to a dead stops without dabbing sometimes, doesn't always work but can make an easier hill funner. Terrain dependent of course.

For side hills... Speed/momentum also can help. Usually there are short sections of side hill that is just plain unrideable, but if you have enough speed it doesn't really matter. If you don't have enough speed and you start to slip and slide downhill, you will continue sliding downhill. But if you have enough speed you will only slip downhill for a short time until the trail levels back out, and then you will regain control. The trick is having enough speed to get through the steeper or slicker parts of the side hill while not going so fast that you cannot control the bike. Confidence is a big help, and you can gain confidence by static balance training and riding a lot of side hill.

I used to get Yamaha DT125R s for woods an the expansion pipe on them were bigger than YZ 125s , I made it fast af, I had a YZ 250 it was 2 fast
@EarthSurferUSA
@EarthSurferUSA 9 күн бұрын
I port and stroke 2-stroke engines for a living, (little ones, but same concepts), and I have some easy mods to gin a lot more, (and smooth) low end power for the YZ 2-strokes. I have a 2019 250, and I think the head was lowered compression from about 2011, and my mods use my stock head. All mods are reversible. First, the bolt on parts: The YZ250 is made with high rpm power in a futile effort to keep up with a 450 on a fast 450 track. Ain't gonna happen. The bike is very tall, and has a terrible engine for the woods, (or tight MX tracks of old). 1) I use a FMF Gnarley pipe, that has a lower rpm peak power point than my stock (YZ MX, not X), pipe. Quality is very good, but the stinger mount is clocked a bit off around the stinger tube. I bent the aluminum mounting bracket a bit so it sits flush. The rest of the pipe is fantastic quality, and it ads smooth lower rpm power. 2) V-force reeds. The stock top reed stop plate block off about 50% of the rear reed boost port, (plate can be cut down), and you lose a bit of power because the port does not clean out the top/rear edge of the head as well as it could, (using 90 octane gas will detonate there first, because hot exhaust gas still exists there most.).. The V-force reeds do not use a stop plate, (so the port is clear to flow), and the petals open up earlier for more low end power. I am not using the stock aluminum spacer plate between the reed block and the cylinder, for tighter crank case volume and a stronger hit. 3) I lowered the cylinder by not using a stock cylinder base gasket (.5mm I believe), and sealing the cylinder to the cases with a good gasket sealer that holds up to gasoline, (no problems with 3M Nitrilie 847 rubber and gasket adhesive, brown, found at McMaster Carr). It is more important to get a good sealer with this engine (compared to older ones) as the coolant also needs to be sealed under the exhaust port. That 3M product is great stuff, and i apply it with a medical syringe, (cut off needle) for a perfect bead. The lower cylinder does 2 things for more low end power. It raises the compression (need 100 octane fuel now, but it is worth it, and it is harder to kick for the electric starter dependent.), and lowers the exhaust port time area to better match the lower target FMF pipe. That is hwere the "magic happens", when you have the pipe matched to the poritng for the rpm power peak you want. I have the stock gearing still (I usually gear down a bit, and will do so when I need a new chain/sprocket set), and i weigh 200lbs. I can now "short shift" the bike with no clutch, (just let off the gas for the shift), and it will not fall on it's face. Lifting the front end over stuff at lower rpm is now a breeze, but it does not hit too hard for me, (I won't need a flywheel weight for my single track riding). 4) I also lowered my bike .75" ion the suspension and 1" off the seat, for much better cornering and foot dabbing to save a tip over. I got rid of the Batman plastic, and mounted a 175 gram frisbee for a front number plate,---because it made me laugh. Quick release too. :) I also modified a set of Cyra full wrap hand guards to be super compact (made a new inner clamp for the straight section of the bar. Looks like a "flag style" from the front, but super rigid. I would like to sell the design. I could not stand the newer YZ when I bought it. Now,---I absolutely love the bike. It is nice to have the experience to make a bike how you want it. It is also nice,--to know what you want. :) You can make the YZ into a great bike for anything, sans keeping up with a 450 on a modern MX track. Because the stock bike is set up to try to keep up with a 450 on a MX track, the stock bike is not really "great" for anything IMO. Doug in Michigan

4.5 Jetting. Jetting is terribly rich stock. The higher compression did lean it from a black plug to a dark brown plug, and i am still working on cleaning that rest up for the best power possible, Your jetting is still on the rich side son. :)

Recently sold my 19 tpi 250 it wasn't necessarily a bad bike but I'm an ex moto guy and I can't ride moto on that thing with how soft the suspension is, I think the yz 250 is a great base for everything so I'm looking at building a do all bike plus the build quality of the yamaha and simplicity of a cable clutch and carb just appeals to me to keep fun simple. Mixing gas and hauling ass. Great video helped me iron out a few things.

@@JasonHamborg I've watched most of your video already as you're pretty much the only stand alone off road yamaha guy on here which is pretty cool. I've owned a couple yz250s for moto they're just bulletproof and easy to work on, no worrying about oil pumps and fuel injection. I'm an ex mechanic and wrenched on a yz250 in British 2 stroke champs a while back so I'm pretty familiar. Just looking for a broader linear powerband as I'm pushing 40 but found the ktm tpi boring coming from a moto background. I like the fact you found something that works and stuck to your guns man probably a bit of a cult hero here. Keep hauling man merry Christmas!

Great video Jason ! I'm running a 2020 yz250x and lowered the stock gearing 14-50 to 14-51. I have noticed a small improvement in technical terrains but I always tend to be torn between using first or second gear for hillclimbs. Should I go with 13-50 or 13-51 to help that? Still want to be able to cruise flowy single tracks in 3rd💁🤦
@JasonHamborg
@JasonHamborg Жыл бұрын
13-50 might be the move for you! Probably comparable to a 14-52/53. I am at 13-51 and spend a lot of time in 2nd and 3rd but sometimes on faster single track I almost want to go to 4th but that gets tricky because of the wide ratio jump up to 4th so instead I just rev it high in 3rd

I could never find a way to talk with a human being for a reasonable conversation about the possibilities.
