That was a good question! I wanted to become a doctor, but I decided on nursing because nurses are more personal with the patients and I love helping and caring for people.

I beg to differ about the statement "Doctors are the brains of healthcare and nurses are the heart". That's false. It is true that nursing is the most caring profession there is BUT we also are included in the brains of healthcare because we are the last line of defense. Ex. If a resident prescribes a wrong medication or dosage, we are the ones that has to critically think and remember our patient's situation to determine if this medicine is indicative for his/her condition.

Golden Ma I absolutely agree with you, I did mention how nurses have a lot of autonomy, require a lot of intelligence and critical thinking skills and are with the patients making alot of the decisions 24 hours a day, however the statement I made was just for comparison, didn’t mean it literally

I love your channel. I'm a recent high school graduate and I was fortunate enough to be offered a externship program for a CNA spot at a hospital. I remember my first days being so nervous to take vital signs! I used to have dreams about my patients too. I hope once I get all my pre-requisites done I get accepted into nursing school. You're inspiring! Keep up the good work

Your nursing story is the reason why I'm happy I'm taking a nursing fundamentals class in high school where we go to nursing homes & do the basics of a CNA . I'll be used to interacting with patients when it come time for nursing school . Lol

For whoever this may help, NP's doctorate program and med school actually don't take the same amount of time. Here's how I see it. to become a NP, it's 4 years of undergrad, at least 1-2 years of experience out on the floor as an RN (I say at least because of course people can be RNs for YEARS and then decide one day to get their doctorates - but this is just from the perspective of the shortest amount of time possible), that right there is 5-6 years, and then the doctorates for nursing for NP or CRNA is 3 years. That's a total of 8-9 years, then you get to be a NP/CRNA right away. With med school, that's 4 years undergrad, 3-4 years med school, and then 3-4 years residency before you get to become (and get paid) the amount your actual professions salary (because residency doesn't pay much). So you can either choose 8-9 years OR 10-12 years.

Another great video. I think you give everyone hope! I'm starting the LPN program in Fall 2018 then bridging to the RN program in the future. I have 12 years of medical experience and I know I will be nervous when nursing school starts, but I get a lot of nursing advice from my coworkers. 💗

I love your channel and you inspire me so much!! I just need advice: I'm still in the pre-req stage but I only have 2 semesters left and right after I'm done I'll be going to nursing school. I live in Florida like you. I'm very very shy.. people make me really nervous to the point that my hands sweat. I'm socially awkward. I find myself re thinking my passion about being a nurse and wonder if my social anxiety would make it impossible to be one? I'm not very good with making friends, keeping up conversations, and being social. I'm also very quiet. Is this a bad quality to have as a nurse or can I overcome this? Should I change my major? I love the medical field. It fascinates me like nothing else and I have been doing great in all my science pre reqs. I'm a very sweet, caring and almost gullible person towards other people, plus I would really love to help others. I'm just scared that my shy personality might make me a horrible failure in nursing school or as a nurse. What advice can you give me???
@TheNurseNook
@TheNurseNook 6 жыл бұрын
Gabriela I don’t think you should change your major, nursing school will make you grow in ways you didn’t think were possible. I know people that we were very shy and reserved and being in the program and going through clinicals and talking to so many patients mad them come out of their shells. I used to be extremely shy when I was younger but being put in different situations forced me to become more outgoing.

This might be a weird question however I’m desperate to know haha. What’s the policy for nails for nursing? I know that they can’t be long or have acrylic extensions but what about French nails or simple nail polish?
@MsJerkinbabe
@MsJerkinbabe 6 жыл бұрын
Ariana Wheeler I do not think so, you must have it short and no nail polish because the nail polish can chip off

Maybe! I’m not much of a fan of acrylic nail’s however I do love having French nails and gel manicures! I just got so terrified when I read some of the nursing rules online and that it stated “no nail polish of any kind” my heart broke a little.. lol!
