Check out the new feature film here: www.frozensouth.com
Filmed at McMurdo Station, where it is relatively sheltered by the surrounding hills. The weather down here is classified as being Condition 3 (nice weather), Condition 2 (not so nice), or Condition 1...
My wife Christine is doing the talking.
Check out my other KZfaq videos for more of life on the Ice. On other socials as @Antzkiwi

@@evilsharkey8954you should look into Shackleton’s Endurance expedition if you haven’t already. All 28 men survived for years after abandoning ship. The thought of being trapped in there during prolonged bad weather and having systems fail like heat, water, etc. has to be just as harrowing as being in space and losing life support in your vessel or station.
@revenevan11
@revenevan11 5 ай бұрын
Astronauts have gone there for training before! In some ways Antarctica is worse because it is less easy to get home than from low earth orbit. The space station always has enough seats on capsules to return everyone in case of an emergency, even a medical one that they can't handle on station. It might be a bummer for the other people assigned to that capsule to have to go home early just because john got appendicitis though lol. However in antarctica they can send a few more people and more Lbs of equipment than to space, so they have more contingency supplies and additional medical support staff.

That makes even a Montana prairie blizzard look like balmy spring weather. I've been out on the ranch in blizzards where you could be totally lost within feet of the barn or house, struggling out through the drifts to feed animals and check on them in the barn in wind that would blow you over if you weren't anchored hip-deep in the concrete-hard drifted snow, with temps of only about minus forty to minus 60 Fahrenheit. Mild compared to Antarctica!

They put ropes between the buildings (mainly from the dorms to the cafeteria - can't let people starve in case the C1 lasts for days, which can happen). We had to make our way back to the dorms from our workplace before the C1 hit full peak and it was like walking inside an eggshell. Truth be told, I did sneak out briefly - in full survival gear - at the peak. Changed my mind real fast. That said, generally the weather folks give enough advanced warning, so everybody stocks up on victuals in their dorm rooms and hopes they get along well enough with their roommate(s) that cabin fever turns causes bloodshed (I'm kidding!)

@@Mateoski97 facts. Not only managers but Its literally the United States Government that be like that. Hell one time one of our supreme court justices sided with a trucking company over a trucker because instead of staying in his broken down truck with no heat in blizzard conditions for 12 hours (most likely he would have died) he went about a mile away, got a hotel room then met the company at the truck when they were able to get to him, which like i said was 12 hours later, they fired him for abandonig his load...... (i be abandoning loads if u know what i mean.... lol) anyway. Yea they fired the guy then wje. He sued them because his choices were follow the rules and die or break the rules and live. The judge's response was I'm not here to decide what is moral or not I'm here to decide what the law is and the law is they terminated you for not following their rules which is allowed regardless of what the consequences.

I can't even imagine p. I've been in -30 F in Montana befor. I litterly had to get up Xtra early to put a heater under my dash to thaw the ignition out and a heater under the hood of my 67 Ford to warm it up enough to start. That was in 1998.
