Cory Lorett The armor gave me a reason to continue playing multiplayer with tangible goals. Adding purchase able cosmetics destroys that extended life of the game for me and gives me no reason to continue since cosmetics no longer have any in game value.

My favorite was the security helmet and katana, which took 49 achievements, or 1000 gamerscore to unlock. If you saw someone with it, you knew they were a very dedicated player. Reach's system was pretty good too, grinding currency to purchase items. Although the prices were pretty insane in some cases, so it was a real grind, but at least it didn't cost anything. I hate that to get cosmetics that look good in most games these days you have to open your wallet. Genuinely makes me sad.

If someone ends up paying more than $60 for a "free" game, then at that point you're just doing a Blood Tribute to stay at, or ahead of the pace the game *should* be for other players who maybe chipped in $5 once... if you even get the Epic/Legendary/Supermega Platinum pulls you want, anyway. I've seen too many horror stories of people blowing wads on the special Gems in these games, to get diddly dick in return. Literal scam! Digital distribution didn't exist in the past. The idea that they need to charge extra for this content now in the era of digital distribution where copies of the game are infinitely replicable without production costs beyond coding the damn thing is absolutely luidicrous. Making games today is cheaper than ever, yet the price has never gone down even once. It has only gone up. The extra charges after the initial point of sale are the result of pure corporate greed. Nothing more.

A simpler idea would be to lock skins behind hard achievements: make one skin or one specific material tied to a particularly difficult quest/raid, and allow players to trade in-game loot with other players,for coins that they can use to buy the skins.

you're right, but then why do you have to pay 20$ for those 5 characters (4$ per character), when you paid 60$ the original game which has 70+ character (less than 1$ per character) all the additional stuff you mentionned (stages, song, colors). You paid 33% of the original price to get 7% of the original content. Even less than that if you consider original game includes game modes, all the UI, the game engine and so on, that doesn't have to be develloped again for the DLC. SSBU might have cheaper DLC, of more valuable DLC, but it is still milking that same old fat cow.

Guillaume actually they dont start developing the dlc until after the game is finished, since they need to get all the legal rights in order after the game comes out (so companies with 3rd party character can see if its well recieved) so its not like the character files are in the game and you have to pay to unlock them; the development team builds them from scrap POST launch
