I wish we could, I pray for it daily. Unfortunately this idiotic and dangerous right wing movement in my country is very powerful and its “leaders” are extremely wealthy. I have a gut feeling we will not pull out of this. I know that I’m voting for President Biden in November - but I think between young people being manipulated into believing everything that happens in Gaza & Israel is his fault (it’s not) and he’s not “doing anything about it” (also false).. and the ignorant who follow trump or just plain don’t care - are going to win out. I fear for the rest of us who are going to be stuck in a country that’s no longer a democracy. I’m in my mid 50’s and I have never seen anything like this in my life. It’s a horrible feeling and I’m terrified. 💔😢

Yes, we are fascinated, we are also terrified for the knock-on consequences that autocracy could have on the rest of us, especially younger members of our families who would have to live more of their lives than us under a nasty and restrictive regime. I can vouch for Katty's opinion on outside fascination. Both myself and my cousin's wife follow US politics more closely than we do UK politics. In fact, by know, we probably know more about US politics and how things are run than we do about our own parliament. I've always had an interest in US history, particularly around the US Civil War and if you had to press me, I'd drill it down to advances in battlefield medicine and the role of women in warfare. What is happening right now in the US is fascinating, not only because of the sensationalism and soap opera drama, but because it will be one of those periods kids will be forced to study years from now. The perspective of those lessons is yet to be determined.
