Wish we’d gotten a little more on the 05 reunion with Joey and Spitz. I know we aren’t going to get too much into Dan Nelson for whatever reasons, but that was a period where both Joey and John were out and we needed a singer to fill the void. I’m pretty sure there were a batch of countries who saw Anthrax for the first time ever during that period too. There’s a huge chunk of time missing here.

I was landed when Joey was brought back a few years before the year mentioned in this video. He is my favourite vocalist afterall, but got to say what a classy gentleman Bush is for acknowledging that Joey belongs in Anthrax. Seen them do an amazing gig at Wolverhampton when Joey was brought back for his 2nd stint, was front row in line with Dan Spitz, who has also been overlooked for some reason leading up to this episode. Really thought it was the end for the group after the whole Dan Nelson debacle, so for Joey to come back a 3rd time, the rest of the band should count themselves very lucky. Don't begrudge them that though, because they had a shitty few years of bad luck from 'Stomp 442' onwards. As for 'Worship Music', I played it every day for a few weeks when it came out, although not as much as the other Belladonna era albums. Favourite track on there for me is 'The Giant'. His voice on that chorus (ably supported by Frank's backing vocals I think) gets me every time. What a tune! My top 3 are:- 1 - The Giant 2 - I'm Alive 3 - Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't

They dedicated most of an entire episode to Joey being axed and how he felt about that, etc. The least the could have done to a guy who was, at the time, in the band LONGER than Joey, and worked his ass off during those years, was give John five fucking minutes to talk about why he left. Not even talking about it is a slap in the face to him, I think. And knowing the way these were recorded, I have a sneaking suspicion that he DID talk about why he left, but all they chose to include was his little snippet about "Joey belongs in Anthrax".

So many things not mentioned, and seemingly being glossed over, hoping fans don't notice.....Joey being fired the second time after the reunion tour, and finding out from a friend reading it online, with no explanation or reason why, from the band themselves. Anthrax needed him for the Big Four Shows, and he was right there, willing and ready to join again and help them back on their feet and move forward. Anyone who has ever met Joey, will tell you what a stand up, classy guy he is and one of the nicest musicians you'll ever meet! Not to mention his amazing vocals and energy he brings to the band! The band's continued success is thanks to Joey, putting his ego aside for his "brothers" and band mates. Joey definitely completes Anthrax and I hope the guys realize this, which I fear they don't, since it's not addressed in any way..

I came home from the record store in 1984 with 2 albums. Raven’s “All For One” and Anthrax “Fistful of Metal”. At 24 I was already a Raven fan but had no idea who Anthrax was. I bought “Fistful” because the album art said “ This is brutal. Buy it, Bitch!” 37 years later…Anthrax is STILL my go to, krank it up, ride or die band. Last time I saw them live was in Orlando, 2018. I’m looking forward to seeing them again. And again. And AGAIN! 🤘😎

For an old school metalhead, this album was such an unexpected joy. So incredibly put together. Music, lyrics, production. It was so invigorating to me at that point in my life. Would really love more songs in the setlist. Would love a few NYC headline shows in the spirit of last weeks live stream.

One of the best shows I've ever seen in my life was Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax in Grand Rapids Michigan in 2010. Joey was back in Anthrax, Megadeth played "Rust In Peace" and Slayer played "Seasons in the Abyss" with Dave and Jeff still in the band. No opening acts, the beer was cheap and it was loud as hell. It was awesome.

Is it me, or did they completely skip over The Greater of Two Evils? I really love John's voice and getting to hear these classic songs rerecorded with him signing was awesome.
@Retrorevelations

They completely skipped that and John leaving, and why (because he didn't want to do the Joey reunion tour of 05). He clearly stated back then that he felt it was a step backwards and a novelty act, and he didn't want to do it. I also think he felt disrespected because they were basically flirting with Joey coming back, even though that didn't work out for them after John walked, anyway.

I went to 2 of the European big 4 gigs. Travelled from Australia to see the shows. Both super memorable for 2 reasons. The Czech Republic show - saw Scott do his famous ‘stomp’ mosh while playing; him slipping and slamming on the stage 🤣 first time he’s ever done that! Sorry Scott, but I laughed! And the Greece show - that country is stuck in a 1987 time warp. Raging, slamming pits for every band! Total madness! I was in my happy place. Haven’t experienced a crowd like that since the early to mid 90s when friendly violence was the norm. Those two days at those shows were fuckin’ sensational.

I understand why they glossed over 2004-2009, but I sort of wish they touched on some of the dark times a little bit more. But from their perspective, I'm sure it SUCKED, and they probably aren't ready to really rehash it. Talking about Danny Lilker in 84 is a lot different than things that happened in 2007, you know?
@dailyvault

You make a great point... and I understand why they didn't talk about the Dan Nelson years. But, if they were going to make an honest career-spanning documentary, I'd have at least talked about the time that Frankie left the band, and the brief reunion with Joey and Spitz for the "Alive 2" record. Perhaps there is more to the picture than us casual fans are aware of from that time period.
@JosephTavano

@@dailyvault I just think it's too raw right now. And let's be honest, they glossed over bad times throughout. If Worship Music was about repairing friendships, then those friendships had to be strained. That wasn't really touched on.

That time sucked as a John Bush fan and was very confusing (Bello left! remember the Reunion Bashing Club? Caggiano was pissed about it) then Spitz and Belladonna didn't even stick around! Anyway, you can really see here what they mean by Worship being their comeback; that whole period up to Big 4 sucked for them.

I have to say I was floored with how much *BETTER* Joey sounded in 2011 than back in the day (and there was nothing wrong with his voice then). He has aged well and there's so much character in his delivery. The guy was born to sing for Anthrax. I'm glad they at least had a brief acknowledgement of John Bush, despite glossing over the 2003-10 years in this episode. Nonetheless, Worship Music was a powerhouse of a record that blew all our socks off.
