i appreciate your nod to those of us who opt out of trying to look younger. i haven't dyed my hair or had any "work" done (no judgement, honest) & people are always shocked when they find out my age (58); across the board everyone thinks im much older. the reason, i think, is that so many people have opted-in to looking youthful that we've lost a realistic frame of reference. this saddens me. i'm in great shape, dress well, hydrate and eat healthfully. having a bad knee and a bummed hip stinks, i don't think i rock. but i am glad i am modeling for my (adult) children what an un-touched boomer actually looks like

My favorite cousin will be 38 next month (on my birthday) and she has a lot of gray hair. She doesn't wear makeup, hair is always in a low bun, and does woodworking. I look up to her because she seems comfortable with who she is. She shows me you don't need makeup to be beautiful. I don't wear much makeup (eyeshadow and mascara when I do) and my boyfriend thinks I'm beautiful without it.

When I was a teenager and twen I loved henna and non-permanent hair colour and played around with that quite a bit. And then came the first grey hairs and I stopped. I like them, I embrace them and now in my late 40s they are still quite well mixed in my dark hair, but slowly, slowly an all grey strand is forming at the right side of my forehead. I've always hoped that I'd inherit that from my mother and grandmother... And tadaaaaaaa, there it comes! 😀

More on fabric softener: it coats the fibres of your clothes to make it feel "soft", which is pretty bad for a few reasons. 1. if you use it on any athletic/active, linen, or cotton clothes, it will make them completely non-breathable, because it seals the small holes in the fabric, and hence ruins them. 2. it also coats the inside of your washing machine, and it's a leading cause of machine breakdowns! 3. their heavy synthetic fragrances can be very irritating to children/sensitive skin in general. If you still feel like you want to use something to make your fabric more soft, add a bit of vinegar to your load!!

The Stanley cup thing truly baffles me. When I first heard about the brawls over a pink Stanley cup, I thought hockey fans were becoming more unhinged than usual and also was confused about why it was pink. But no. My great-grandfathers carried their Stanley lunch pails and thermoses to work in the mill. My grandparents did the same and carried thermoses on Sunday drives in the 1940s and 50s. My dad and uncles carried them to the woods, hunting and fishing in the 70s. I still have one of those.

Just a friendly reminder that botox is also used medically and the medical protocol calls for (in small part) some of the places where people would get it cosmetically - the other 50 injections are not in the cosmetic zones and many cosmetic zones are not covered by the medical protocol. For serious pain, it's been such a blessing for me and I haven't even considered getting botox in the places cosmetically that don't get touched in the medical protocol. As a medication, it's just wonderful.

I love the part about Botox. I think it is so important to talk about how much consumption and spending is generated by the idea that going through changes in life and growing old is something that we need to prevent at all costs, instead of embracing and celebrating. At 43, I have quite a few gray hairs and also a few wrinkles, especially around my eyes. Like you, I am not saying I'll love them forever (or maybe I will), but I am embracing the changes and celebrating them as proof of the life well lived I enjoyed so far!

I didn’t get it for the trend, but the utility, the lunch box has become my traveling art kit for its durability (i might have knocked it off the side of a cliff once) and the cup fits perfectly inside for my cleaning water. That's the thing about dryer balls though, if you bought them at any point in the past, you won't have to buy them again for ages. I've been using my same set of six for 4 years now and they're still going strong. So I won't be buying any this year either. 😂 Incidentally, for anyone giving up fabric softener this year, dryer balls can help ease that transition. They help keep clothes separate and moving around the dryer so the clothes come out softer and fluffier, with less static.

The Stanley cup craziness is really annoying me as well. The whole purpose of the video with the burning car was to show that Stanleys are really for a lifetime but instead people started to buy more and more. They literally have lifetime guarantee from the company. Why would anyone need more than only one? Treating quality brands such as Stanley, as a fast fashion brand really infuriates me. You don't need two of the same cup. You will not be able to wear and tear down the cup in a lifetime like the fast fashion items. I am really sad to see these people buy more and more meanwhile we are trying to make a difference

Refreshing to hear someone say they're looking forward to turning 30. All of my late-20s friends make a big deal out of "being old" and jokingly get mad when they're reminded of their age. I think it's sad! I'm 22 right now and getting older is something I'm excited about. The pressure of making my 20s the "best years of my life" feels quite silly - there's more to life than just youth.

As a 30 year old woman who just had a baby via c section I have noticed alot of changes to my body and skin. But I am really trying to embrace those changes. My stretch marks, sagging skin, and c section scar indicate that my body created a life. And for every woman who is upset about those signs on their body's, there is another woman who would give anything to have the opportunity to bear those marks. I've noticed fine lines start to appear as well. To that I say, aging Is a privilege, it's not a right. Not everyone grows old enough to bear those marks. ❤❤❤

I'm accidentally not buying into a lot of the things listed here because of my sensitivities. My skin is super sensitive and will break out in welts, rashes and blisters if it's in prolonged or repeated contact with many things that are derived from petrochemicals; mainly synthetic fabrics, petroleum based skincare and cosmetic ingredients, and fragrances. I make my own clothes because most store-bought clothes, even those labeled as made with 100% natural fibers, will still have seams that were sewn with polyester or nylon thread. I try to make my clothes as durable as possible and take care of them, because it's my time and labor that is wasted if they wear out too quickly. My husband is a chemical technologist. He makes the laundry detergent and dish washing soap we use, without toxic chemicals and fragrances. He has his own sensitivities with his lungs because he had asthma as a child. So everything in our house is fragrance free. I often feel like those of us with sensitivities are like canaries in a coal mine. The stew of toxic chemicals all around us is noticeably affecting us first. But I believe you are right, that overexposure to all of these toxic chemicals will eventually sensitize all of us.

This is a great video and I agree with you on most of the items you are talking about. Most of which, I have never consumed. I do like dryer balls because I think they keep my clothing from getting too wrinkled. I used sunscreen and a good mild cleanser most of my life. I think most of skincare and makeup is just a marketing scheme. Now, at nearly 70 I feel I need more and see a difference afterward.

I did buy a Stanley Quencher cup last year😅 BUT only because I LOVE my Stanley to-go cup and have had it for years. And I chose it in my favourite colour and plan on using it forever 💜 It’s helped me up my daily water intake!

When I watched your Christmas season antihaul I was quite happy that I typically don't buy any of the items that you mentioned, and in this video, I'm pleased to say the same. I got a new Fitbit for Christmas which I suppose is similar to an Apple Watch, but I am hoping/expecting it to last for quite a while without needing to be replaced.

I totally agree with you on the things you won't buy this year. I also found it crazy when I heared that people still hype the Stanley cup that much since I didn't really get it from the beginning. All the more crazy that there are people who have them in 20 different colors! Clothing with big brand names or logos has never been something for me because I just don't like the look of it, so I haven't bought merch until now, and aren't planning on it, if it isn't really something I like to have and wear without a big Logo on it. My sister has some Lidl and Aldi socks since last year or the year before they brought out the merch and she liked them, because they only have the logo subtle on it - another hype I didn't really get.

Curious question: How do you feel about having branded clothes when they are a good and sustainable brand like Patagonia, The Parks Project, Cotopaxi, etc?
@KristinaVeshtort-Kask
@KristinaVeshtort-Kask 2 ай бұрын
@@sarahkinsey5434 the OP didn't answer you, so I'm gonna be the annoying person who butts in on other people's conversations! AFAIAC - absolutely No logos on my clothing, even small brand logos somewhere in the corner, sustainable or not. I am not a billboard to advertise on. It completely baffles me that people are willing to pay to become an advertising space! (also Patagonia isn't as sustainable as they claim. Better than shein or hm, of course, but not as good as they claim or want to seem, and that whole "donating my fortune" gimmick was basically a clever scheme to keep money in family without paying taxes)

I love that you specifically mentioned anti-hauling fast home decor. I think considering a piece you'll keep out to create your home environment is entirely different than buying the next new tablescape or candleholder. Alongside clothes, home decor is the most prevalent type of item in every thrift store I've ever been to. Shelves and shelves of holiday decor, baskets, glassware like jars and candleholders. It all feels like such a waste. I have a small group of home decor items that I plan to keep for many years which help shift my home seasonally. More is definitely not more in this instance. Having totes and totes of seasonal decor that *might* come out once a year seems like such a waste.

on top of what you said, scented candles are even more dangerous to our pets (the smaller the lungs, the bigger the health risk for them) so pet owners, please be mindful about that!

I loved this video:) I probably won't be buying literally anything that you mentioned in your list. Candles are the only thing but to be fair I do make my own and it gives me the control over the scent and the type of wax and wick I get to use. It's a whole other convo. I would also add viral make up to the list for myself. I love beauty and make up especially green beauty. I'm just getting to the point now where I'm super not drawn to the influencer promoted make up brands. My vibe is now supporting smaller brands that aren't hyped up on tiktok and brands with sustainable packaging where I can just buy the refills. It feels like far more logical to me than to constantly feel like I have to keep up with the latest beauty trend. Thank you for your informative vid 😊

Hello , I am new here, and I just want to say, that I am glad I found your channel ! It is very interesting and natural :) I am also turning 30 this year in the beginning of March ;) and am loking forward to it. Of course I have some things I stress about sometimes, but I honestly am happy in any part of my life jurney, and every year brings something else, different. I think that growing up and aging is the beauty of life, we just have to learn to accept it and stop trying to go against it... Now....I am going to binge watch some of your videos :DD: have a nice day! ;)

can you make a video on how to sustainably soften your clothes, and/or your clothes washing routine? i find there's a lot of conflicting information on how often to wash certain types of clothes and certain materials, and i struggle to keep up with handwashing of delicate clothes, especially knits and things that can't hang dry and need to be dried flat

I love my garden & houseplants but have become so uncomfortable about plastic pots & the use of peat in the compost used that I too have decided to stop buying new plants. I’ll divide what I have, grow from seed, use my home made compost & re-use all the plastic pots I’ve collected. It’s ironic that garden centres - in the uk at least - are the least ‘green’ places of all.

I literally just bought wool dryer balls. Dang it. My dryer is not drying so good lately and everything I read online about them raved about them. I have not used them yet, so we'll see if they help. Edit: A great video though! Also currently reading Sustainable Badass and I am learning so much! Edit #2: They don't help drying time! GRRRR! If only I waited like two days and saw this video!

Stanley is a car cup as it fits in cup holders which many bottles and tumblers don’t do. You also don’t need to take the lid of whilst driving. I can see the practicality if you drive a lot etc. But 12 year old girls do not need one! Sticking with my straw Hydroflask thank you

So many things we have in common that I won't be buying either❤. The only thing I bought recently, though, was a fridge container for my cheeses. I was fed up with having them spread on the shelf, and they were taking lots of space. Instead, now when I want cheese, I just quickly and easily take my container out ... så det så 😂

I use eco egg laundry egg, it's little beads inside an egg,you pop in with every wash ,no need for softener , you get 70 washes for each pack of beads, great for sensitivity, it only costs about seven pounds, i have been using mine for about six months now. I have excema and it's good for me.

Fabric softeners make clothes feel weird to me, my family never used them. I actually prefer the stiffness of line-dried fabrics, but am renting in an apartment that doesn't have the ability to line dry. Also go out of my way to avoid Wish, Temu and Shein--I got the ick from the first few ads I saw for either, and heard about poor quality and I just noped out.

I have been using the same hydro flask since 2018 it’s banged up it has stickers from all over and I love it has survived fire and I have managed to no lose it I also have some other hydro flasks and yetis all different sizes but mainly because they were either gifted to me or I had them for specific drinks and sizes like tea and coffee but I haven’t bought a new cup in 4 years although a yeti was gifted to me this year. I use the same skincare for 2 years and keep it to a cleansing oil and a moisturizing oil and have lovely skin in my opinion minimal breakouts and even tone . I will admit though I love candles so that is something I do but (I am. It perfect lol) I use eco egg for my laundry and that is literally all I throw in with my clothes occasionally I will add baking soda or vinegar through

I recently bought a new car. There was badging for the dealership on the car. I had asked them to remove the badging before I left the dealership. They said they couldn't do that. I responded with either it comes off or 5k comes off the price tag for advertising. The badging came off. Why should I pay over $40k for a new vehicle and do free advertising for the dealership?

I'm on year 3 of having my apple watch and I really like it for it's fitness/health tracking abilities. I love that it tracks my workouts, will give me reminders to drink water/take supplements, stand up after sitting for an hour+, or keep me on track of my calendar appointments. It's definitely not a necessity but it sure is a nice to have if you're someone that also wants to stay on top of these things. Having this little device has strangely enough cut my screen time down.

The thing about botox is so true! Botox originally was meant for older/senior people who had deep wrinkles and wanted a bit of a fresher look. But now, you got 20 year old getting botox and fillers for absolutely no reason! People who have no wrinkles on their face are getting botox and fillers just because it's popular. It's so wild how normalized it is now.

Ill never buy any household appliances that are "smart" i hate that alot of people that might need accessible appliances can only get something with alexa built in because the company can choose to abandon the app and people get left behind in the process. Dont understand the obsession of getting something with one of every single color of anything let alone an oversized water bottle. one channel i watched a kid spent so much money at ulta and only got 3 things, ill never understand the obsession with going to specific beauty stores when you can go to a grocery store to find slightly cheaper things, i don't buy makeup regularly but the prices at ulta are just too much.
