The more anti- literature and posts I read, the more excited I am about defending the church and the gospel, and the more I learn that I can defend. I'm not the least bit bothered by their garbage.

@@lukev483 I guess I should clarify that I don't necessarily think the church needs defending, except that when anti-s intentionally misguide people, church members are in the front line of dealing with it. Why not defend against misinformation? If someone were talking shit about my wife, I would totally defend her even though I absolutely know she can kick ass. It's an honor to defend my faith and defend something so real and beautiful.

@@lukev483 I have no problem with criticism. But there is a pretty solid difference between criticism and misinformation. Also, are you really equating Santa Claus to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ? If that's how you view belief in our faith, you're already misinformed about how most of us feel.
@DannyAGray

@@lukev483 I feel like you've really gone on a stretch comparing God to Santa. There aren't too many sightings of Santa that can't be easily explained as a parent, or someone who knew the kid, dressed up to play the role. On the other hand, there are numerous accounts of miraculous encounters with God or Christ or angels with no other explanation. And while someone might be in the mood to feel the spirit of Christmas, the testimony of the spirit of God has a very different feeling.

What is the difference between anti-mormon material and truth that the LDS church just doesn't teach? For instance talking about Joseph using a seer stone would get you excommunicated in the past, however now it is openly taught. Is a seer stone anti-mormon?

@@mongomaddy That is not even close to true. Read the story about Avraham Gileadi. He was excommunited because he translated the book of Isaiah. He was described by amazing LDS scholars like Nibley as the "best Isaiah scholar in the world". However he was still excommunicated for his translation. I know 2 people who were excommunicated for simply writing books and nothing more. Rob Smith - Teachings for Doctrines the Commandments of Men Taylor Drake - Joseph in the Gap

@@Telavian it was the content within the books that got them excommunicated. No one gets excommunicated for simply writing a book. That would be ridiculous. Also the seer stone was never secretive. These things have been openly taught and published by members and by the church for years. But people normally don’t study their own theology. Which is the same for every religion

An interesting little known story about Dan Jones. When Joseph Smith was accused of the attempted assassination of the Missouri govenor. About 60 male members boatded the Maid of Iowa to patrol the Mississippi River to prevent mobs from Missouri from crossing and kidnapping Joseph. DanJones was appointed the captain. My own ancestor was among the 60 men. I found the source to prove it and tried to attach it to all 60 men. If you go to Dan's familysearch profile,you can see the list.

Loved the show. I believe there are some Moroni's who was the last Saint standing in our world. As far as a Dan Jones. Yes but it will be a person in India, because of that culture. Christianity is the new God in India, but the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught by the church is the new enlightenment.

I've made the comment before but the wicked priests of Noah ended up laying the groundwork for the missionary work of the sons of Mosiah amongst the Lamanites by teaching the Nephite language to the Lamanites (see MSH 24:4) inthis way the scriptures could be taught more easily and the sons did not have to learn a new language in order to teach

I am of an age that you say isn’t of much value but here is my thought anyway. As to not being tempted above that which you can stand, needs more thorough examination In Alma 13: 28. It explains that we need to be humble, call on the Lord, watch and pray continually, “ that he may not be tempted above that which he can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek…..etc.” So on examination we see that we have a responsibility to not place ourselves in a position to be tempted above that. Which we can bear. Something like an employer asking potential drivers about their driving skills to which some reply ,” I can drive so close to the edge that my tire is half off the cliff/ road going round bends and at top speed too. While another driver explains that he stays as far away from the edge as possible and drives the limit. Which one is not placing himself in a “ save me, I dare ya” attitude. Thank you for allowing an old boomer ( I just think of myself as a person) to comment.

For a guy that says he knows "when he sees the truth", he sure seems overly obsessed with the recent movie. You realize the Movie portrays a theory, based on circumstantial evidence and the fact that the two "eye witness" statements contradicted key points. If the 2 1/2 minutes in the Carthage jail went the way the movie portrays it, does he think his book becomes more irrelevant? Could it be a "Pride" issue? He may not be the Expert he thought he was?

@Veritas liberabit vos fair call. I am only thinking of the movie. I’m Australian lds so see the world a little different perhaps. I think the movie only moves those probably on the way out anyway. The final scene was a little chilling when you realise the claim, but anyone watching can tell it’s not a ‘faithful’ presentation. If anything it’s a great call for members to spend a little time learning the history of their faith a little better, and not be “lazy learners” (like so many boomers were lol) I don’t know a lot about the activities outside of the movie connected to Justin, but I had presumed Justins excommunication was less about the actual movie and more about other aspects connected to it (such as his beliefs etc). I see Justin as a reasonable guy - just has a vastly different view of lds history to me. I also don’t think Brian has been effective in his critique. We all get the data and events outside the 2-3 minutes in the cell, but to respond to Justin you have to respond specifically to the 2-3 minutes. It would be great to see further analysis of the skulls etc and see if anything useful can be gleaned. Maybe there’s nothing to find. Happy to be corrected as alway.

@Veritas liberabit vos "Truth is truth", only a handful of people Know what happened inside that room. Justin poses the possibility that what we thought was the "Truth" wasn't. Then he offers an alternate theory, based on no one ever examining the 2 or 3 minutes to see if the eyewitness statements match the outcome. Considering all the violence they had been experiencing, for years, it doesn't seem plausible to me that there was only one or two guns in the room. If there was one gun in the room there likely were at least four. The idea of only the two men that were under arrest having a gun is unlikely. Carrying a gun was much more wide spread and accepted back then than it is now. Brigham started three communities living the law of consecration, very successfully. John Taylor is responsible for their failure. If he had allowed them to continue as they were intended we might have Zion redeemed already.

@Veritas liberabit vos I'm not aware of ALL of Joseph's "prophecies," but I'm not impressed. I'm really not impressed with his directions, ideas, "revelations" regarding moving the Saints around....to Kirtland....then Missouri....then to Nauvoo. I find the things he said about Missouri and "Zelph" and "Adam ondi Ahman" etc etc to be most troubling. The Garden of Eden in Missouri? HAHAHAAA His projections about the Rise of the Saints AND AMERICAN INDIANS in taking over the USA??? Joseph Smith was a non-stop prophecy/pronouncement machine...churning out HIS THOUGHTS and IDEAS and WANDERING-PONDERING MOMENTS....so many of which became "Revelations" and "Prophecies." "Thus Saith the Lord" was his favorite line...his verbal Six Gun.

@Veritas liberabit vos BTW, it's funny you should mention Twain....he said of the Book of Mormon"..... "chloroform in print." ENTIRE QUOTE: “All men have heard of the Mormon Bible, but few except the "elect" have seen it, or, at least, taken the trouble to read it. I brought away a copy from Salt Lake. The book is a curiosity to me, it is such a pretentious affair, and yet so "slow," so sleepy; such an insipid mess of inspiration. It is chloroform in print. If Joseph Smith composed this book, the act was a miracle - keeping awake while he did it was, at any rate.”

Joseph Smith was doing far more than throwing darts. He was actually using the natural gifts of the Spirit that God gave him from birth to bring the True Gospel, in its fullest, back to this earth. He actually used his God given spiritual gifts, (which we have all been given a few) to do the work of the LAST DAYS. Joseph was called. He accepted his calling. He did his best. The truth will all be made manifest at some point. Where will you stand?
