Accused 'detransition' is also a falsehood, since bigots count anyone not taking hormones as 'detransitioned'. Which means if you can't get access to hrt, you're counted as detransitioned. If I stop taking hormones for a week I'd be counted as no longer being trans. As an English trans person who STILL fighting to get legit HRT via the NHS and have been for the last 4 years (I've been an adult that whole time), I'm not shocked whatsoever that some people are turning to DIY. Even my friends who have gone down the private route have had issues with access and funds, so yea. Desperate people take desperate measures, what a surprise!

I should point out, google has banned DIY hormone therapy primarily from showing up online in the UK now. The free market will win though. It always finds a way.

This has been going on for at least 20 years. A close friend of mine did DYI since their late teens. No support, no regulation, no bloodwork done, and on top of it all, having trouble getting "formal" help later on, thus then having to carry on with DYI. It was terrifying to see. Not knowing if it was legit stuff they got, not knowing if the balance was right, and seeing them struggle with side effects. And it is disgusting that it has not gotten better.

Propel touting the Cass study to walk back puberty blockers and HRT for minors are literally arguing that because 3 trans kids committed suicide on puberty blockers that we can no longer determine whether or not kids with or with access to blockers are less likely to commit suicide that those kids denied puberty blockers. Ok realize that puberty blockers have been found to not cause suicide or suicidal ideation in precocious puberty patients given the same drugs, and that kids can stop taking them at any time and yet still kept taking them , and that The fact that correlation of suicide with access to puberty blockers in a population already prone to suicide because of societal transphobia, society otherwise not being made for trans people, and because poor mental health outcomes is just associated with being trans because most trans people would rather not need to transition in order to be the ge see they identify with.

I been waiting on the NHS now for nearly 3 years. I been DIYing nearly 3 years now. I buy my estrogen gel from a pharmacy on the other side of the world at great expense to myself. The online forums(the one that starts with the letter r) people there tell the community not talk to the press about HRT DIYing for fear we will get noticed and government ends up taking notice and bans the import of such meds.

Not only were the standards that the Cass report used (double-blinded RCTs) impossible, but they're standards that Cass herself has explicitly stated before are impossible and unethical. It's wild how people are acting like this review is some kind of breakthrough when Cass is out here openly contradicting significant portions of it.

Right wing media has been making a lot of claims about the Cass review that aren't actually in the text and that Cass herself disagrees with. This culture war has made a complete mess of any and all research into this subject.

What I really hate about articles like that is that it stinks of the Jesse Singal approach -- he's kind of a nobody except that he loves writing articles to support the transphobe agenda. He cloaks this, however, by including the information that would put the lie to his articles' main take away... he just tucks them away toward the end, or buried behind a few thousand words saying the contrary (like what this article does, but expand the word count about a hundred fold) so that the anti-trans bias has been well planted before exposing the reader to anything that might get them to doubt the narrative provided. What's scummy about it is that these sorts of liars can then proclaim that they covered _all_ the information, and in fact that bit that contradicts them _was in their article_ ... and they can then try to play dumb about why people would be taking a transphobic message from their "journalism". The far right must be rewarding these people pretty well, because I get the impression that they don't particularly _care_ about other humans, so whether or not trans people are giving worse lives and made more likely to stop living is kind of _whatever_ for them. It'd be less effort to not bother with it. Except that there's a financial incentive. Maybe not directly -- one can never know how stupid or how crafty those on the right will be -- but at least indirectly by directing more attention to them and maybe helping them find better paying gigs, giving them access to prominent names, making their stuff more viable in the market, etc. Even more frustrating is that I don't think most on the right -- at least of those with power -- care either. I told my doctor the dosage I needed for my estrogen injections.... Like I might as well have just done a diy prescription at that point.... The doctors weren't really monitoring my hormone levels at this point anyway.... And diy instead of all the bullshit I had to go through to get the letter would have been better too.... Should have been about to just go to my doctor and get the prescription on informed consent model.... But if I could do it all over again I'd go diy hormones instead of 6 months of bullshit group therapy that might have been helpful if it wasn't just a barrier to hormones. Speaking as a trans person in the UK, the only HRT (or blocker) that would be illegal to purachase is testosterone. I don't know about the legality for the people supplying the HRT since it isn't being regulated, maybe there's something illegal happening there, but as a buyer you aren't doing anything illegal buying oestrogen, progesterone, or blockers - just testosterone.

I use this injection estradiol. While I can just go and buy anti androgens and estradiol without a prescription where I live, it's so expensive (because it's only the pills I can access like that) that I just can't afford it

18:21 It's actually the case. I saw that on fb in a private group for trans people. Not that I needed to see it as I know exactly how the UK media works. The only people I would ever give an interview to would be people like Owen Jones or groups such as Novara Media where there is an established, consistent, positive narrative towards trans people. It would not apply to me anyway - I didn't do DIY HRT and got all my care to NHS standards including seeing psychologists for assessments before being allowed to access care - four times in my case. But when it came to deciding whether to go for bottom surgery, one of my rationales for deciding to go for it when I did was maybe they will take that option away in the future, and I thought I wanted it - I just wasn't sure of when. Also, I'm 50. I wasn't sure beforehand but I'm really happy having had surgery and, just like starting social transitioning and starting hormones, all of these things have increased my wellbeing overall in spite of the minority stress that is manufactured by the press. Nobody goes through this incredibly lengthy process with long wait times to access cross-sex hormones if they are not trans. Also I was told on numerous occasions of the permanent effects of these hormones. I knew I would grow breasts, lose a little strength, and have a little fat redistribution from taking oestrogen - it's pretty much the whole point. And you're also started on a low dose to check that it's right for you, so that very little changes permanently until you've had a chance to live for a while with the medicines and see how they make you feel.

I would like to tell of my attempts to transition in the 90s to 2000s luckily I was living in London so had access to the UK's one and only gender clinic unfortunately run by doctor who did not believe that you could be transgender but did believe that aversion therapy could turn gay people into straight men. You needed your doctor to send a referral to the clinic this was filed(binned) after numerous referrals Dr gave me a written referral which I then I took in person to the clinic again filed(binned) because what I didn't know was that you had to come dressed as a female however even if I had done this it would not have been enough as you had to repeat this process 6 months later to then get on the 3 or more year waiting list obviously this was before the internet so the information was unknowable I hope for their sakes that they are not burning in hell where they rightfully belong

I am so glad that i live in Denmark ❤️ it is not perfect, but the wait time for the first appointment are less than 3 month, and for most we can get HRT within 6 from that date.. gatekeeping is a bitch, but it is not that bad here.. in less than 6 month i can get on a list for SRS (free of cost) the wait time for this are around 4 years and any more and we can seek the treatment in other places still free of cost

If I were wondering if I was trans, I would not assume I could know for sure it was that and not a mental breakdown or something just by reading stuff online.
