just a thought when thomas was talking about how he didn't know how the grayness of Seattle would affect him: why not "move" there for a week or two (aka get an air bnb, hotel, etc) and live and work there during the most gray time of year to get a feel for what day-to-day life would be like. obviously an expensive experiment, but far more affordable than moving somewhere and realizing you don't like it

Was thinking about the communte thing and I have a 30-40 min commute each day and I see it as a positive. I have time to prepare for a meeting in my head if I have one, listen to podcasts (inlcuding this one of course!), audiobooks and being a teacher, the quiet time between leaving school and getting home is time I can use to unwind, just with myself!

Freshly working as a customer service associate for amazon for almost 3 months now, I live up to thomas' experience being a cashier. I constantly get berated with angry peeps, and the scale tips more to the negatives instead of positive interactions. I get that sentiment that a positive interactions all day long can be negated by that last minute call from a self-entitled person berating you for almost an hour; eventhough your shift is already over 40 minutes ago but you can't drop the call... Am'I venting? i think I'm venting...

Awh don’t take it personally! Think of yourself as the platform in which people can air the grievance of their life, incorrectly directed at an online retail employee. Some people just blow off steam to those who listen and generally dialing unknown people through phones are a guaranteed way to gain a listener.

Pressing question: Why would a corn farmer hire Tom and others to DE-tassle his corn? Sincerely, a curious gardener Also, assume copious amounts to praise for this episode in any way you’d prefer to receive it. Touching on ethics, analyzing how to subtract negativity from daily life, and predicting regrets before they manifest. Wonderfully challenging topics to consider that will likely result in beneficial mindset changes. LOVE IT. Now I’ve been inspired to sit down and write the business plan for some thing’s that I’ve felt guilty about not starting at earlier dates. Also, Martin, my ears perk up any time you say something along the lines of “i’ve been thinking” or “ I had an interesting thought” because they’re usually things I agree with or think about and it’s nice to hear it articulated.

I have a question I think might be a good one of the podcast! It's actually based around Thomas's latest video on Automic Habits. -- If one of the best ways to make habits stick is to merge the habit with your sense of identity, what should you do if you have two competing habits related to two competing identities? For example, I want to be super-fit, strong and lean ... but I am also a massive foodie. Cool baddass warrior woman and comfy homely cookie-baking woman pull in opposite directions! How can I make multiple versions of myself work together without them sabotaging each other's goals? PS. Love the podcast. Loved it before, love it even more now!

Having traveled a lot, I would agree that most cities in the US are pretty much alike. You'll see the same chain stores the minute you step off the plane. That's even true of other countries. NYC is interesting for its concentration of live theater and museums. Every major metro has something unique but is it worth a week-long stay? Eh. Interesting discussion. I like the close-up, split screen after I got used to it.

Hello! Question for you guys: How would you design an optimal routine around a blocked-out afternoon shift? I teach private music lessons, usually from 2-8pm, and often with no breaks. I enjoy the work, and it pays well, so I can easily see myself doing this for at least another year. I feel indecisive about how to best allocate and schedule time for other activities (exercise, chores, free time, etc.) because it's so different from how I've spent most of my life. Right now I like to spend a few hours each morning working on more long-term passive income projects (so that I can get into deep work), but I feel the burn out beginning to seep in. I wonder how sustainable this is. I love having completely flexible mornings, but I need more structure. Also there’s a slight undercurrent of existential dread if I try to relax in the mornings, knowing I have to work later 😬 h e l p
