Notes: * When provided with information, notice when you get confused or get an emotional reaction of conflict and disagreement; don't force yourself to accept it as it is, instead you should think critically, what is that sounds wrong here, is it because of a gab in my understanding and my model of perception or the information itself is misleading, inaccurate, incomplete or wrong, while doing that we should do our research and ask questions, be willing to be skiptecal if the problem is in the information. * No one solution or advice fits all, we should not take any claim and set as an absolute truth or law, we should understand the context from where this was coming from, and also understand our unique situation and only take what fits us.

Since the time I was in high school, which literally a quarter century ago, I've had friends that don't necessarily resonate with me. LOL! Years later, I remain to question WHY we're still friends. We share very little in common. This especially applies to my friend, Breanna. I don't necessarily want to burn bridges with her, especially since she latched onto me as a friend, 20 years ago. Breanna's intentions are good. She buys me presents and I reciprocate for birthdays and holidays. However, it's unnecessary because it feels like I'm obligated to do it. Now that she has my cell phone number, she randomly texts me about the dumbest things. Considering that we're in our early 40's, Breanna acts like the stereotypical Incel. There's nothing wrong with her being a fan of Marvel Superhero characters. I love watching Anime, Horror, especially since I'm a Horror author, listening to music, etc. At the same time, I know how to assimilate with OLDER and more mature adults. BTW: Breanna has a Masters in English and knows how to clean up in sells. Yesterday, I suggested that she try joining Writing groups and even watch parties near her neighborhood or something. It sounds like I'm being mean to Breanna, but we don't live in the same state anymore and our hobbies, interests, views, and LIFESTYLES are polar opposites. Also, she needs to grow up and realize that I have a busy life playing caregiver to sick and disabled family members, including my own mother. Even though Breanna has a good-paying job, she's careless and immature, especially when she wastes my time texting me about how she lost the mates to her gloves and that she's eating ice cream. LOL! Those are childish traits for a 41-year-woman with a Masters in English. LOL! Just saying.

I always thought that being intrested in a person is not genuine if you are not caring about their interest because that doesnt interest you. So i always thought i was a bad and egoistic person. But hearing what your take was on what it means to be intrested in a person with no common grounds and adding the fact that commication is a way to connect and connections are build on understanding. And understanding is mostly of all being able to relate in a way. I see now that i am intrested in a person when i try to connect tho we have no common grounds but i do connect with how they feel about a certain interest of theirs that i dont have to care about. And if i do than thats even better.

you guys are the best. two of you, actually DISCUSSING, no unhumane monologue. practical to the BONE! reality, not *just* "do this and everything will be great". optimization, and rhythm. waves. activity, pasivity, and on many levels. spiraling up. :) one of "us". down to earth and only one REAL.

Why even bother? Just find someone you share interests with. Both parties will be happier for it. Faking interest while "sitting through" something that means a lot to someone is not a form of connection. You cannot have real connection through anything fake, and you're not going to learn anything if you have no interest in what the other person is talking about.

I have spent countless hours collecting music CDs and at least $7000-to 8000 on one hell of a stereo system but fell into the trap of playing video games to escape. Since quitting I have started going through my extensive CD library and feel so much better, less stressed and reactive.

This was so helpful! I love your mindset of distracting yourself from depression, and I will give a try to the method of "if nothing matters, then me doing sport is just as well as me sitting here". I'm a 100% or nothing type, but I think going through the motions will be something I'll have to try and do. Thanks!

I have something to add: Try finding out why they are passionate or so interested by this topic, without trying to change them in any way. Just hearing why they might find something meaningful can make you resonate with them more. If you have something to add, first compliment them, regardless what their plan is, then ask a critical question, rather than expressing your opinion about it. A question should be as objective as you can make it. Practice facial expression if you have a hard time making and reading expressions that fit the situation.
