It's so ridiculous when you also consider that for a lot of people, the antidepressants don't even help their depression. So now they still have depression but with a bunch of antidepressant side effects also.

@@einienj3281 , the “side effects,” of antidepressants include suicidal ideation and behavior. This is what’s more prevalent - few people are helped by them. Also think about the fact that the physicians’s drug desk reference is NOT written by physicians and scientists - but by the same pharmaceutical companies. Look it up.

For anyone considering stopping medication, in addition to talking to your doctor and researching how to wean off the med I would also highly suggest telling several of the people closest to you so they can check in and monitor you. If the original depression symptoms return, you may find yourself down a dark well and unable to ask for help

If people were not so stigmatized by society still with such things and could talk to each other without someone's face going blank as they look away and ignore their friends/families, this would not be an issue. I devote an entire category on Suicide and Mental Health, and it gets ignored just as much as the source material. I HAD a 'friend' who always looked away and ignore or interrupted me when I tried to talk about deaths or other key issues going on in life, and all he could do was make some smart comment like "Yes, your brother is still dead" as in "big deal, I want to get drunk and fantasize about the waitresses, not listen to or help you, my friend, who's always listened to and tried to help me!" So, now he's gone, his kid is in jail, and his wife may leave him...but don't bother me anymore!! Good riddance (he loves Trump, too, of course, the epitome of selfishness in America)!

As someone who grew up rural doing stuff with my hands (like digging post holes, shovelling animal poop, etc.), I suspect that some depression & some other mental conditions might be worsened by lack of sufficiently physical work. If people can participate in meaningful physical work a few hours a week, it could boost physical as well as mental well-being, imho.

If coming off antidepressants, the general rule of thumb is to add up the time you have taken any antidepressant, and divide that time in half to know how long you should take to wean off while working to rebuild your ability to metabolize serotonin. If you have taken 5 years or longer, a 1 - 1.5 year taper for every 5 years on. "Time" being the focus. HOWEVER, people tapering can't know how their nervous system will respond to a decrease in medication until they try it. Each person's different and some can go faster than others. It is advised to taper no more than 2% - 10% every 2-4 week's which is a conservative, harm reduction approach. This is EXTREMELY important. Many times, withdrawal is delayed so you may be doing large cuts and feel great, actually better than ever but just be blindsided with severe, debilitating withdrawal weeks or months later and at that point it's often too late to reinstate so it's a waiting game. Please be aware most doctors follow old tapering guidelines and the majority going through withdrawal did follow their doctors tapering advice. Most doctors and pharmacists are clueless about tapering off these drug's.

Everyone is different, medication works well for some and not for others. A GP appointment is only about 5 minutes long and that's not long enough for you to describe your symptoms and issues, the doctor to decide what to give you, and go over all the potential side effects. We need more GPs and longer appointments, not just because of this problem but it would help with other problems from having such a short amout of time with a doctor. Antidepressants saved my life and I know about 10 others who have told me the same thing. Side effects can be truely horrible for some, but for most they are either non existent or not serious. A major problem is also getting an appointment to see a therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist it's been incredibly difficult to get an appointment with one of them on the NHS for many years now. Unless you're suicidal it's very hard to see one, and even then, it's not easy. People need therapy to learn good coping skills etc, so they don't get to the stage where they become suicidal. If people had therapy some would be more willing and able to come off their medication too, but there's little to no support, 5 minutes with a GP and medication is not going to help enough

Depression is awful, it ruins relationships, families and your left all alone and feeling misunderstood. However, anti depressants do work. Depending if you take it properly. A lot of people I know take anti depressants and also self medicate with hard drugs and alcohol. This is very common. In my opinion, Depression is a state of mind. If you want to overcome Depression you must also look at your behaviours, diet, and the people you hang around with. I am no expert but in my experience I was the most Depressed and sometimes suicidal when I was living life people pleasing and suppressing all the hurt and pain people caused me. I now no longer just exist. I live life on my terms and don't care what people say. It's amazing. Try it. EVERY ONE DESERVES HAPPINESS

Finally went to a doctor after several suicidal episodes and hitting rock bottom. Within an 8 minute window of meeting a doc who had no idea about what I was going through (and who really couldn't be bothered asking any questions), I'd been prescribed antidepressants and was sent home. I was told NOTHING about side effects, how long I'd have to be on them, etc, and at the time felt like I was too rushed to ask. I couldn't think straight, but as soon as I got home I was thinking "surely that's a bit dodgy...". Tbh for severe depression and anxiety (which I think I have, although a diagnosis would have been nice) maybe pills are the only way. But to not be given any other option whatsoever and just put straight on drugs is, in my opinion,, appalling. I'm scared to take them but have no other options at this point.

Has anyone here started struggling with an overactive bladder as a result of taking anti-depressants? I took sertraline for two months each in 2020 and 2021. If I can remember correctly my urinary frequency increased. In February 2022, I took Tretol (another brand for sertraline) for only two days and it wreaked havoc on my body. I didn't get an overactive bladder immediately but I got other side effects like clenched jaws, drowsiness, weird stool issues etc. I stopped taking the medicine immediatelty but about 10 days later I had my first urinary urgency which led to leaking myself. I've suffered with a relatively overactive bladder and latchkey (bathroom door) incontinence since then and I'm struggling to find a cause other than the antidepressant. But I've been told that two days is too small a time to cause such a massive change.

No, people just tend to get married without really considering what kind of commitment it takes to stay married. And then get divorced over fixable problems or out of selfishness (like wanting to f*around or not wanting to compromise in any way at all). Erectile disfunction is not at all as common as this video wants to make it out. It happens. But with dose adjustment it also goes away in most cases. And not all people have this issue. There is so much stupidity in this society because instead of helping people to be wise, we give them antidepressants which are toxic for our health.

Very happy this is finally being spoken about, many years ago, we were told as kids that it didn't exist, that was very false and stupid way of thinking, I am not a huge fan of taking pills but they are so many options for mental health, I believe each person must decide what is best for them even if it means taking medication ❤and ✨️

If my depression gets to an acute level, I just call it a day (write off the entire day, bit like how insurers write off debts lool)... I think I walked out on four jobs in the last 7 years. It is a lot more manageable and nearly got on top of it. Apparently Creatine provide just as much relief as AD description (i'm not a doctor!).

Have you been taking medication for it? I'm at the point where I'll have to quit my job, because I just cannot mentally be there for it. I can't even leave the house atm. Got meds but am super depressed now about having to find another job. It feels so hopeless and I'm scared I'll just lose every job I can get

Ssris work well until they don't, at that point do the benefits of increasing the dose outweigh the side effects, for me it didn't.

I prayerfully stopped my ssri cold turkey & I was perfectly fine for about 5 weeks until I was suddenly overcome with a sickness: dizziness, diarrhea, severe headache, tiredness. I was on vacation when this happened, so I pretty much just slept the entire time. When I got home, i looked into ssri withdrawals & lo’ & behold, I had what’s called delayed ssri withdrawal symptom. I had to start taking my medicine a little bit again. I am now having to take half (50mg) once every few weeks when the diarrhea/dizziness hits again. I believe the Lord is coming soon soon, so this is something I can live with until then. ❤ otherwise, I would go back to the doctor & get a smaller dosage to taper off properly. If you don’t know Jesus, it’s time to get to know Him because this is the year of the pretribulation rapture. ❤

Taking a pill for depression that has a warning about side effect "may cause suicidal ideation"!!! plus when you come off them, the withdrawal side effect can be a return of symptoms.. so you think you still need them.. how about treating the reasons for the depression!

Surely the side effects of antidepressants are well known? If not they all come will a detailed information leaflet so there is no excuse for ignorance.

Not in the US. Patients are not allowed to read the leaflets, in fact, none are given.
