This is a 1948 Mack fire type 45 engine with a m330 l head engine. I just replaced the #3 piston because of a broken valve seat. This was the first start up after rebuilding

I own a 1947 Mack Type 85 Firetruck,I don't think that's the original engine.If it's a Type 85 Firetruck,if not something else,it would have a ENF-707B Engine like mine does. The Mack Type 85's all had the ENF-707B's from 1946-1954.The ENF-707B was a 707 CI OHV Straight Six at 213 HP with a 1BBRL Downdraft Carburetor,it was even more popular in the LS53 Series trucks from Mack. That engine I also think is not called a "M330" but R330 if it's a Continental Engine.I have a R330 Continental Engine from 1951 in a 1924 Buffalo Model 50 Firetruck I own as well.Continental always labeled their OHV Gasoline Straight Sixes as "R" before the Number of the Engine's Model. Like for example,I own a 1958 American La France Series 900 Firetruck as well,It has a R883 Continental Straight Six as a Gasser.It's a 883 Cubic Inch engine.Continental always put the measurement of the cubic inches on their engines on every engine as a model number.

That's very interesting. I have rebuilt the engine when a valve seat broke and destroyed a piston. I did use the m330 identification to get parts without a problem. I will do a video going over the whole truck soon. Thank you

Capt n B garage The 330's from both Hercules and Continental were VERY identical and similar,I even have a 330 Hercules in a 1941 Cletrac DG5 Crawler that I own as a tractor. The frontend on y'alls rig is very low and not big enough,I think it might be a 1938 Mack by the looks of it.It certainly is not a L Series or Type 85 Series Mack.Mine is a 1947 and would look the same up until 1950.In 1950,Both the L's and the 85's got a "Continental" Bumper as a extension instead of the stainless steel bumper with tow hooks right above it between both sides next to the truck's grill,which is why they get confused alot.The truck in the video has that stainless bumper for a matter of fact.Look at the headlights also,those type of lights were built in the 1930's,same style into the 1940's on newer Macks,but without that point or crown that makes a stream ramp on top of the light bracket.My 1924 Buffalo Model 50 Firetruck has a set just like the ones in the video.

Wondering if you could tell me where to find the chassis number on a 1948 mack type 45s? My dad found one in irvine California and looking to see if it might of been from Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District at one point! Also how do you check Vin #’s on vintage rigs smaller than 17 characters?

The one we know Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District had is chassis # 45S1428 and the one in irvine California has vin# EN330G4224K. Any help would greatly be appreciated

If you get the numbers off the rig and contact mack history they will give you all the information on it. You might have to make a donation. But give it a few weeks and mack history gives all the information about the truck.

Do you know what department it started out at originally? My dad is looking for a 1948 mack type 45 that originally belonged to the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District!
@bhoehn244 жыл бұрын
It was originally from Briar cliff manor in NY

0:05 Look at all the plugs and iginition wires. Does it have dual-ignition systems? Can see distributor and coil on top, and guessing there is a MAGNETO on the side of engine. Can't trust that distributor because it's unproven "new technology." It would fail if your battery dies.

Exactly. It has dual ignition. 6 cylinder with 12 spark plugs. It's a emergency vehicle so there has to be back up. Both magneto and distributor work fine.
