This is a WW2 era safety razor sharpener. I have never in my live seen something so cool. This is WW2 era made in Germany, shipped from Bulgaria.
Restoration Process
The first step in any restoration is evaluation, then I disassembled and cleaned each individual piece. After evaluating each piece, I decided that everything would have to be blasted and that simply polishing some items would not get the result I wanted. I decided to use a glass beed media to clean off the parts. Unfortunately the footage of this was lost and is not present in the video. Paint or powder coat would not work on this item due to the hinge system on the rear that was almost impossible to disassemble. I decided to use a low friction extremely durable ceramic coating. This would allow me to coat all the moving parts and also leave behind the worn engravings. I knew the handle would be a challenge because it was the only part that would have to be made from scratch, it was also pressed on. I decided to replace the bakelite handle with a wooded one. I then secured it with a rivet.

A little stropping compound or metal polish applied to that leather would make it work like a charm.

when i was a kid i saw them everywhere, they were popular for the depression era men, a nickel was alot of money to many men so they found ways to make every cent count, those things were ment to use on the old 3 holed blades and the old blue gillette blades

Really cool piece of machinery! Fantastic job on the restoration too. I just have one suggestion on the production. If you want to go for a 100% ASMR and dont want your breathing getting picked up by the mic, an overhead microphone or wearing a cloth mask would help. Cheers 🍻

Stropping is the final step in getting your edge razor sharp and is usually done with leather.

Cool but not a sharpener. It’s a stropper. Just refines the edge slightly. Can’t actually add sharpness to a dull blade.

this was not restored ,parts that where chromed ,where painted ,a restoration is ,to restore something back to its former condition ,while trying to retain as much of the original item as possible ,if you taken the time to nickle plate the chrome parts ,that would be an acceptable compromise .

@@Unrestored well you threw a dark polymer-ceramic over the chrome hiding it,s mirror finnish . nah thats not the way to do it , worse case scenario if the chrome is damaged beyond repair ,strip the chrome. using hydrochloric acid and Hydrogen peroxide ,then nickel plate.the rest of work done i have no issues at all , but if its meant to be a mirror chrome finish ,then it should be a mirror chrome finish .

@@gizmo1252000 no it's not. Cerakote is durable et perfectly adapted to rotating parts because of lower friction coefficient. It's way clever than just chroming or nickel plating.

@gizmo1252000 2 жыл бұрын
@@sylvaind.6786 then the item has not been (restored back to original) ,as the original had chrome . not some crappy ceramic coat on it . its a not a dirtbike side casing smh . if your video title says restored ,restore it ,no shortcuts . i dont care if ceramic coating is good for friction ,that,s not the point im making . if chroming is,nt possible ,then nickle plating would be a good substitute .and would not change the look of the item .

Functionally restored, appearance, no bloody way. Where did you get the idea that an 80 year old razor sharpener would be that ugly puke brown and black color. it would have been, or at least most likely been chrome plated. IF your going to restore something, restore it, don't bastardize it and call it restored.
