At this point in their respective careers specifically, Josh has that beautiful, technically perfect, deep voice, and Randy has that experienced, unique “perfect in its own sense” voice. And together they make the best sound I’ve ever heard. Unfortunately we’ll never hear this again. Glad we got a chance to while we still could. It’s the best pairing I’ve ever heard.

Did anyone else catch the second to last sentence? “Watch out Randy for that long black train”, followed by (the normal lyrics) “that devils a drivin that long black train”. Sounded to me like Josh Turner was compelled to subliminally hint to Randy Travis he needs to throttle back on the drinking. Notice Randy’s eyes when singing about the “long black train” they tend to move back and forth rapidly at times. That’s either nystagmus or guilt; probably both. I can’t say anything as I drink more than I should. But I’ve been a fan of both Randy and Josh for a long time and as of today (02/09/2021) for the first time seeing them play together and knowing Randy Travis’s future I can’t help but think Josh was sent by God to try to nudge Randy in the right direction. God is all around us all the time and sometimes it takes a long time and some poor decisions for us to see it. I’m thankful I got to realize it before Randy did.

I guess I haven't thought of it this way but this song is an illustration about the daily struggle a lot of Christians go through, I know I do, it's hard staying off that train at times, but we all know that there is nothing but anger and despair and guilt on that train but we get off and know there is a Father who loves us and will help burn that ticket because there is Victory in the Lord Almighty
@Lawd_Kolya8 жыл бұрын
+MrFloppy19 I would like to add to that because, as an atheist myself, I can still listen to Christian country like this and take away some positive thoughts about staying on the righteous path by doing the right thing - whether that is based in a faith or not. To me it is universal values that he sings of; to behave and love one's friends and family.
@blakehendrickson71288 жыл бұрын
+MrFloppy19 Could not have said it any better man. Its taken me several times to finally realize I cannot make it through this life without my Father in heaven. Everytime I push him to the side and try to do things my way, I fail. Heavenly Father, forgive me of my ignorance and lust for living in my wordly ways. I am a sinner and I pray that you make me new again. Amen.
@SRP35728 жыл бұрын
+nicolainp and thats your right and freedom to believe and interrpret this in that way. i just know for myself. its based in faith, and Josh has said several times that everything he does is based on his Christian faith. thats the beauty of this country, when we can discuss these kinds of things without one side getting vicious at another. now if only we could get the rest of this country to act that way, we would be alright
@Lawd_Kolya8 жыл бұрын
MrFloppy19 Despite it being based in Christianity, I also believe that the values and struggles of people is a common thing - also for non-believers, and that is also what I tried to convey, because I do believe that the basic values of love, compassion and decency is common values (or should be) for Christians or atheists alike - at least I hope so :) And that is what I meant with my original comment - that me and other atheists enjoy his music quite a lot because it still speaks to me. - And yes, religious discussions would be much nicer, if not tainted by viciousness.
@SRP35728 жыл бұрын
+nicolainp and that's great that we can agree that the matters of right and wrong, values and morality and everything that comes with it is universal. I just have chosen the path to accept Christ as my saviour, confessing my sins, and have Him live in my heart and live for Him, knowing that there will be an eternity of peace waiting for me on the other side when I pass from the physical world being called home, gives me peace 😃😃
