Anton is a lot younger. He also has always had this intense, saint-like discipline about him. Even when he's living on the edge, there is still a certain quality of discipline and sobriety about him. I don't think most people see that, but it's obvious to me.

Anton was an absolutely mythical figure in the heady days of Bomp! Records. The British press loved his band and America was just coming around when he really started to loose his shit! I have 32 Brian Jonestown Massacre records and I think I am still missing 8 or 9 albums. I always thought that he’d be long gone but he’s so much cooler as a survivor and it’s awesome that he has a son, wife, and adopted country! R.I.P. Anthony!!!! You were an incredible guy!

I’m hoping you’re just trolling (never thought I’d say that) - Anton is a complete douchebag and has continued to get worse as the years go by and he further alienates everyone including his fans from his life. He’s definitely *not* a cool guy in any way, even though he tries so desperately hard to be “cool”. I’m a BJM fan but i can separate the music from the individuals creating them and it’s clear as day what kind of a jerk-off that guy is.

This older, more staid Anton is an interesting counterpoint to the wildness presented in DIG! It's great to see his passion. One of the secrets of life, I guess, is trying to bring enthusiasm to every small thing you do. and Anton seems to have had no trouble doing this throughout his whole life. Cheers to being creative and not ending up a rock casualty.

Newcombe has always been a truly remarkable artist, even if you're not a fan of his music his talent is absolutely undeniable.. but it makes me extremely happy to see him looking so happy / fulfilled these days. he seems to be a very proud family man now, and I can't adequately put into words just how thrilled / relieved I am to see it. for the entirety of the 2nd half of my life, I've been constantly wrestling with a lot of the same kinds of demons that he was dealing with in the past. Seeing him make it thru to the other side looking so genuinely happy and healthy gives me hope that I desperately need right now. Always bums me out when I think about Anthony Bourdain, I've been a huge fan of his since I was a kid.. but seeing Anton is a much needed reminder for me that it is possible to beat the demons if you just stay in the fight long enough. Eventually the light will prevail if you just let it in. Finding the courage to keep going lately has been really difficult, I had no idea how desperately I needed to see this right now. It all sort of hit me like a ton of bricks and now I can't stop sobbing. lmao sorry for rambling. ignore me.

Man that is a gut punch. When I caught a Bourdain show I had to watch it, this is why. As for Anton I think he is actually one of the greats of rock music, a tad nuts but that's ok. One of my brushes with greatness was I actually got to meet him one time in public, I recognized him by himself and said hello. He was a very nice and polite guy, we talked about music and his latest record at the time. He seems a fragile person, I hope he around for decades to come.

This was a bittersweet airing; Bourdain was dead but he was on TV with Newcombe in an unusually intimate setting. Anton Newcombe was a BIG reason why so many indie rock bands went for the late 60's and early 70's sound (and look). His revival of hippie fashion in the early 00's unquestionably became a driving force behind Millennial hipster fashion.

Wow, as a Diehard BJM fan for 20 years I give major props to the Anthony Crew for making this happen. I've met Anton twice in my life and actually did backstage security for him for nothing. Seen Him play maybe 7 or 8 times. The guy was so awesome and smaller than I imagined but his persona on stage was unbelievable. I've seen him from small shit holes to Red Rocks in Colorado. He had a badboy persona on stage and everyone waited for what Anton would do next at each concert. An F'n Genius. Well both Anthony and Anton were. I can see the relationship with them both having tainted pasts. Brilliant move for this episode. It also showcases Antons new life as a family man. Its wonderful. I'm happy for him! Cant say enough about this episode!

I got to chat with Ricki Maymi while Anton had a brief meltdown on the other side of the stage - the opening comments of this video sum it up, he's totally uncompromising and a very harsh taskmaster, but if he was a warm cuddly character would he have produced the songs and albums that BJM have? maybe, but I doubt it. I will definitely miss Dan Allaire's phenomenal drumming, I hope he returns

It's kind of cool seeing musicians going digital. Especially when you are so prolific like Anton. It makes it much easier to record all of your ideas. And Anton has a lot of ideas.

Anton is an original, the man has never had a shit record. And everyone steals from his 60s shoegaze drug drone.
