I'm subscribed to a couple of hundred channels, from horse training to welding and way more. Something I never imagined was discovering a channel that would answer lifelong questions about my butt! 😆 Dr. Chung, you rock! I thought my hairy ape ass was a curse. Yep, I've endured the stubble just to minimize all the non swimmers that find a hair to cling to rather than take the plunge. I've even sung the Taylor Swift song 'Shake It Off' during the struggle to free myself from what I knew would turn into a messy smear if I failed. Despite my best efforts, aggravation by stealth clingers that hung in there actually aggravated a back injury from all the twisting for multiple return visits, first with paper and then multiple wet wipes. Can we talk about the cost of these things as high value, post Covid commodities after inflation? Geesh! The ultimate remedy: My bidet. Love it. I could write a song about it. I'm not asking anyone to eat off my butt, but it's as clean as a well washed dinner plate! I'm super excited to acquire this fresh knowledge so that I may wax poetic about the newly discovered benefits of my neanderthal ape ass at family gatherings. Somehow, I'm the only one who acquired the gene for this gift and have been targeted for ridicule by anyone who's seen me changing into swim trunks, headed to the shower, etc. After the first Thanksgiving bottle of wine is emptied, I know what's next: "Has anybody else seen Jimmy's hyper hairy ass? Mom, dad - come clean. He's adopted, isn't he!" It took years for me to craft a comeback of no merit beyond ad hominem. "Well, I can shave my ass anytime I want, but stupid and classless is forever, BEN! Want to take this outside? C'mon punk, neanderthal vs. the hairless butt of a girly man." I'm tellin' ya... It's humiliating to be in our 40s, see dad take his belt off and have mom put us on time out. A lot of baggage comes along with a hairy ass, but come Christmas I'm kicking a hairless ass with my hairy ass and SCIENCE! My life just got better. Love ya Doc Chung!!!

You have to be careful with getting rid of the hair you can get more of a chance for A pilonidal (pie-low-NIE-dul) cyst is an unusual pocket in the skin that usually contains hair and skin debris. The cyst is almost always near the tailbone at the top of the buttocks. Pilonidal cysts usually occur when hair punctures the skin and then becomes embedded. If a pilonidal cyst becomes infected, it can be very painful. The cyst can be drained through a small cut in the skin. Sometimes, surgery is needed. This is an extremely painful experience I had this while I was pregnant, and they drained it, but I could not have anything for pain. I had a patch of dark hair on my lower back and I used to shave it. After giving birth I had a surgery to have the cyst and sinus tract removed. The wound was left open so it would heal from the inside out. It had to be packed with gauze every day. If you get a pilonidal cyst it will hurt in your tailbone. Sitting becomes extremely painful You might not feel à lump but there is a Cyst filled with a birds nest of hair. And a sinus forms from that cyst follows the way of least resistance.

For context I have IBS and really long body hair... If I do not remove hair from my anus I get bits of faeces stuck in the hair. For me it is mandatory. Also I have to have a shower or use a bidet after a movement. This may seem counter intuitive, but I find that thongs solve the chafing problem you mentioned. Most people would consider them for women only. However there are brands out there for men too. Seems bonkers, but it works for me. Fortunately my bowel movements are usually regular in timing(early morning). If I get caught out though I will have to resort to using a disabled toilet with a sink to ensure nothing gets soiled. Feel your pain as I have had piles before and a sitz bath is really good. Hope you get better soon! Certainly would not recommend my methods for you especially if you have externals...

I swear my butt hair has no maximum length, which is not only creepy, for somebody that finds hair gross already. Regardless of length, more than a couple of millimeters requires too much wiping, and that leads to chapping and bleeding. I need a bidet. It catches on fabric and elastic, too, which is so unnecessary. I don't shave anything but my beard and scrotum, though, because I'm too prone to ingrown hairs. Actually, all my chin is like that, so I don't shave my beard all that much.

You are the best, doc! Thanks for mentioning the potential benefits of removal, despite your hesitations about it. I am 44, and have been removing the hair since my early 20s. I live in a cold climate, so swamp ass is less of an issue. I like it less hairy because I can get myself clean in very few wipes. Also, it is almost totally clean vs poop stuck to lots of hair. Razors give me razor burn, so I very carefully use an electric hair trimmer along with an easily washable mirror placed underneath in my empty bathtub. I do it once or twice a month before showering. If anyone dares to try such a thing, watch out for nicks! The tissue of the sphincter is sensitive and easily cut. This could be a big risk in using this method, although I have a technique to avoid it. After cleaning my anus, I place a thumb over my sphincter, to protect that tissue from getting nicked. Then I simply trim around my thumb. My sexual partners have appreciated it. I am a man who enjoys "going down" on women. That said, when there is a forest of hair around the anus, I'm usually faced with the unpleasant experience of smelling lots of poo not far from the vulva, and generally avoid "going down" the next time around.

I need to trim only when the skin develops eczema and I need to apply cream easily. It isn't advisable to close shave.😊

The vellus hairs aka peachfuzz are all we need to accomplish what you explained hair is needed for. No reason the shave that hair. Its the big gross terminal hairs that are the issue. Prepuberty our butts managed just fine without those long thick dark terminals hairs.

Dr. Chung, what about the theory that hair(among other things ?) in that area can cause pilonidal cysts? Isn't it better then, to wax or get rid of the hair?

Came for the hair, but im more interested in that hemorrhoid treatment. Mine are bothering me too much, the swelling and pain is irritating everytime i use the toilet. Im willing to try everything at this point. If anybody could recommend something please let me know, i would appreciate it. I just want to leave surgery as a last option.

Hello Dr. Thank you for being there with us during our toughest days.. Recently I had been the victim of anal fissure followed by Hemorrhoids. It took 4 months for my fissure to heal, but now I am battling with Hemorrhoids. During my research and experience, I have learnt that alopethic doesn't have any cure of Hemorrhoids. It can always tell you how to minimize those little evils down your ass. But Homeopethic treatments just kills Hemorrhoids from the core. I recently have started the homeopathic treatment for my Hemorrhoids and after 4 days of dosage my Hemorrhoids are 80% better and still continuing to get better. What are your views on these two school of thoughts. I would highly recommend my other bottom end sufferers to try homeopathic treatment once if its available in their region. I am from PAKISTAN.

Yes, IMHO, it’s much better to remove it, the hair will absorb nasty odors from fecal matter and can even hold on to some of it if you didn’t cleanse properly. I’ve been doing it this way for decades. With a hairless smooth butt, it makes cleaning much easier after pooping and you just feel cleaner. So I use Nair hair remover but any hair crème remover should work, I simply leave it on the areas for about 3 minutes and then wipe gently with a wet paper towel. I rinse thoroughly in the shower with a high pressure water nozzle many times to make sure you get it all off or it may chemically burn the sensitive skin down there. Warning: Do this at your own risk, what has worked for me all my life may not work for you.

@acool6401 : Having hair does not equate to not washing. As with the armpits, hair is there to absorb moisture, odour and to provide comfort from chafing skin surfaces rubbing there. I noticed toilets in Asia and some other regions have water hoses or small basins/sinks of accessible water next to the toilet for easy washing, rather than wiping with dry paper tissue, which will leave residue and not clean as efficiently as washing/rinsing that area. This is the only reason why some odour may even be detected, whereas if one shaves, it can cause irritation and redness that can break out into rashes and sores, needing to apply powders and creams to provide relief as the natural moisture is not absorbed but simply stays on the skin surface or runs down the body with nothing to absorb or catch it at all. Hair is not an accident, but a preventative for many sorrows, which only the vanity and fashions of men uphold for no essential benefit. Thus washing keeps you clean always.

@@lukastembergerHaving hair does not mean uncleanness. In both scenarios washing will keep everything clean while still looking naturally attractive by not shaving it all off. This is a common thing in many countries with shower hoses or sinks next to toilets, wheras in the west people mostly wipe with dry tissue paper. Of course that is not clean! 🙃

@@scented-leafpelargonium3366 Well, washing with soap and water is best. I only do the hair removal thing about once every 8 weeks because that is how long it takes it to growth a length that becomes gross. I guess I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to genital/butt cleanliness. After some dry wipes, I then use a moisturizer with the paper till the paper is white. I then take a shower and finish the job with at least 3 cycles of antibacterial liquid soap and rinse with a high pressure hand held water nozzle. I get in there about a fingers length and approach the butt hole from two angles (front and rear) for a much better clean. If I recently removed hair then I also use aloe vera for a few days until the stubble grows to minimize irritation.... ....otherwise throw some talcum powder in there and I'm ready to continue the day. I clean my butt as if I'm about to go on a date afterwards. 😊 I've been that way for decades so not about to change now. Well, when I'm 100 (God willing) and close to meeting my maker, then the nurses will clean my butt and I will have to accept that.... 🙂 ...but until then my butt will be clean my way. 😉

@@acool6401 Well I have to admire your enthusiasm! I heard some docs say soap is not good internally as it can upset the natural bacterial balance leaving one more open to infection etc. But you certainly seem to uphold quite a thorough regime! I'll try not to imagine it! 🙃

Love my hair, they are so helpful. But as with head hair you won't be able to stay clean without soap. Luckily water is in every wc so even if no option to wash i still can dip paper to water and wipe which postpones decent washing till necessary equipment is at my disposal 😅

What the Devil ? What decent man would be holding a hand held mirror alone in the bathroom for an unnatural amount of time in there looking at his doughnut like somebody crazy? Clipping anything away that Mother Nature had placed there to keep it covered up and decent when he bent over at the waist instead of the knees. You see how bad dogs look walking around with their back privates showing everybody uninterested in seeing that. Absolutely OUTRAGEOUS.
