I didn't watch your videos but I changed all thermal pads in Gigabyte Gaming OC rx 6800xt. The best choice of thermal pads fot this graphic card is 1mm and 1,5mm (for VRAM). I used Gelid thermal pads. 2mm was to big in VRAM :)

Nice video review how to change your thermal pads for your GPU. please note don't do the same mistake power color did. leaving the plastic on the thermal pads lol.

Are you experiencing reduction in temperature after repadding? What you showed at the end of the video was GPU Core temperature right? What about the memory/vram temperature? Has that also been reduced?
@GunsGearNFreedom
@GunsGearNFreedom 2 жыл бұрын
You know, that is a good point. I only checked GPU temps. Now you have me curious about the vram temps. I have only ever used the LCD temp readout and the AMD Radeon software. They only show GPU temps and not vram on the card. Do you have any recommendations for what software to use to check vram temps?

@@purnesh27jagad11 Replacing the thermal pads has helped me significantly. I am mining crypto, watching the State of the Union and typing this comment on KZfaq and my card LCD screen is showing a temp of 51C with 99% load.

@@GunsGearNFreedom hi brother. Thank you for helping me out. I have finally replaced the same, ofc thanks to your tutorial. I just want to know what thickness you required? After reading your ans to a similar question, even I completed whole job with 1mm thickness. Just want to know should it be fine? I am yet to complete the whole test as power went off.. but initially hiveos showed me temps of 84. (shooed up from previous 72,dont know why) will complete and get back to you. Just want to know is 1mm thickness enough. Thanks in advance

@@purnesh27jagad11 I used 1.0mm thickness in mine and my temps have been holding stable under 99% load at 52 degrees C.

He replaced the pads with 1.0mm on the memory and 2.0mm on the outside pads and then put 1.0mm on all. But the original look thicker IMO but i noticed some are very compressible and others very little. They DO make thermal puddy to replace pads, but of course are messy. I used to use Arctic Ceramique paste in place of pads back in the day, as its formulated to not "separate, run, migrate, or bleed" and works much better than those silicone based puttys. Used it to cool VRM's on my old motherboard, and after 8 years! the stuff didn't dry out or even run despite the gaps. And i also used that stuff on an old HD 7950 that i volt modded and OCed to hell (1650MHz) and was temperature limited (hit high of 95c rock solid) even with using old school Liquid Metal that you had to replace every 6 months lol They do sell pads in 0.5mm increments and different materials, but if you don't mind making a mess you can get putty. Personally I'm going to pick up another tube of Arctic Ceramique, the stuff is amazing for it's use cases.

@@MrHeHim I also had the same impression that the thermalpads looked thicker... I'm thinking about using 2mm and 3mm on mine.

What are the pad thickness you used for the card? Thank you.
@GunsGearNFreedom

I purchased both 1.0 mm and 2.0 mm thick pads. I ended up having to use the 1.0 mm pads across the entire job, only after I discovered that 2.0 mm pads were too thick for my application, because they wouldn't allow the cooler to sit in place correctly.

@@RussTeeRider These seem to be pretty solid cards, and come with a decent cooler, but those factory pads don't seem to hold up very well. I have been running this card mining Ethereum 24/7 except when gaming and the card under 99% load is now running between 49 and 51 degrees Celsius after changing the thermal pads. That is down from being 60C and above.

you need to spread the thermal paste evenly with your finger on the GPU, just leaving it a pea size will result in less coverage...when will people learn this.....sighs
