AP COILOVER installation MERCEDES C CLASS W203

In this video I'm installing an AP coilover on my 2005 mercedes C220 CDI W203. I tried to be as clear as possible but you're free to ask something if it wasn't.
Products that I've used :
- AP coilovers for mercedes w203 2000-2007
- ST suspension spacers for the front (12,5mm)

hello good video! did you have any problems with the stabilizer bars? I personally replace stabilizer links before by the shorter and unfortunately I have the impression that the parts collide ...

Just installed maxpeeding on my w203, can not lower because the bottom of the spring touches the tyre . I might have to get spacers to lower more

I have c280 4matic w203 and you know if the rwd coilovers will fit i know the k sport are for the 4matic but they are mad expensive

Thanks! And the wheels where delivered on the W209 CLK and W204 CLC with sport package. Serial number of the front wheels: B66474516 ; wheels in the back: B66474517. Hopes this helps you out and good luck with the new car!

when installing coilovers do you need to consider other type of suspension parts dedicated for sport suspension? I am asking this because when I had a MK1 Focus and installed the lowering springs the front and rear camber of the wheels became from a almost neutral value to a visible positive value. Now that I have a w203 estate I would like to mount some coilovers and I am afraid to be honest not to get a positive camber as it would look rubbish in my opinion. Yeah, if you want to get some more adjustments in your alignment you can get a kit where you can adjust your camber and caster a little bit more as stock. But I did not have to do that because my angles are still within spec (after alignment). And yes there is a little bit negative camber (I think that's what you meant to say) in the back but still very reasonable. And thanks!

Removing the nut and bolt on the left side behind the brake rotor should make this job much easier in my opinion.

@@anthonyvds at the back wheel, you chose to unloosen the bolt on the right side near the exhaust. I find it much easier to loosen the left bolt near the brake disc and then drop the suspension and shock absorber. About the coilover: don't the nice gentlemen at the annual technical inspection cause trouble with these parts?

@@googletv9902 Nope this doesn't give any problems since this is a coilover with TÜV and complete with al the needed documents. There is only one thing, after installation you have to have it inspected by the technical inspection here in Belgium.

I use koni fsd suspen. with eibac springs and eibac dtm stabilizator kit and the car is glued on the road !

Do you need any stock parts replaced while you're there? I mean front top mounts and rear spring shim?

Yeah you could do that! If you see that front top mounts etc. are in bad shape it's recommended to replace this while you're there. I had to replace my top mounts afterwards.

Great video and great job. My question is, is it deep enough in the rear and how does the AP drive? Is it hard like yellow Koni or is it still comfortable to drive on motorways?

Yes, I do like the ride height overall but if you really want to go lower you can opt for ULTRA LOW springs. I did not do this because with this ride height I almost have no clearance issues. And yes it is a little bit harder as the stock suspension but in combination this tire/wheel size it is reasonably comfortable I think. Thanks for your comment!

@@anthonyvds Thanks for your reply. That sounds just like that what i am looking for. It's my daily driver and i love this car but if the coilovers would make Highway drives to hard and bumpy, it would be very bad. I will go for AP Coilovers. Thumbs up!

Correct rear jack point is under the differential. Strut top counter hold is a 7mm hex ..not a torx. Nice job.

what size are your rims? very nice car, got same model from 2000 but it looks way older, might be the headlights.

Hello @Faym, thanks for the comment. They are 18inch rims and 7,5 in the front/8,5 in the rear. The best thing you could do to make your car look a little bit newer is indeed to get the facelift headlights. There are some other differences like bumper, mirror,... but the headlights are the most obvious.

The most online tuningshops have these. The only thing you have to make sure is that the bolt pattern is 5X112 . And that (if there is one) the centerring is 66,6 mm. My spacers are from ST suspension and I have nothing to complain about.Also don't forget to order longer wheelbolts! Hope this helps you out.

Hi i got some problems with my AP Coilover kit. Did you widen your fenders in front and did you use spacers to get the wheels further out? I got the W203 facelift with sport package just like you and i cant even get the wheels on if i turn it down just a millimeter. When i put it in highest position in front it works tho. And i noticed a mistake in AP´s manual: there is a picture where they show the position of the front springs, their ends are supposed to show to the left on the left side and to the right on the right side of the car. But i installed it the way it was originally installed. If i remember correctly the springs end shows to the front of the car. Because of the strut bearings the springs can only be installed this way. Can you tell me how you installed it? Are the springs position the same as original when you installed it?

Hey @Ger Painkiller, In the front I used 12,5 mm spacers because I had the same problem you have at this moment. And I think this the only thing you have to do.. widening the fenders will not be necessary I guess. What concerns the springs, I did the same as in the manual of AP and works fine actually. I have a set of kw v1 and for the rear is it possible to remove the bolts connection to the rotor/ hub ( shock side) becuase when I bought my car the owner did exhaust work and its bassically welded from the headers down

daveanand mannie Hmm to be honest I think you’ll have move around a little with the exhaust. But since it’s an aftermarket exhaust (I think) you will maybe have enough space to get the bolt out. Good luck anyway! Cheerz

Hi there! Well, you won't be able to make it any higher than stock to be honest. In the rear you could use a higher spring. But up front you will need a new shock + spring combination I think.

How did you open the front strut top bolt? I had to use a special tool to get it off.

I did it with an impact wrench, but you can also do it with a special tool like you did!

anthony vds Ok! I didnt get it open with on impact wrench since there was no actual bolt there in my car, just two small holes where the special tool fits. Great video anyway😁

Hi Kevin, I wouldn't recommend putting 20's on it. Because with 18 inch it already touches the wheel well in the front when steering..

You’ve got a great looking car. I’m also thinking about getting AP coilovers for mine because my W203 looks like a bus. I‘ve got 17“ AMG 5 spoke rims from a W204. Front: 7,5 J X 17 H2 ET 47 (225/45) Part number: A2044014502 Rear: 8,5 J X 17 H2 ET 58 (245/40) Part number: A2044014602 With 10 mm spacers on each side on the front and 15 mm spacers on each side on the rear. Would i need to get bigger spacers to get lower or are they sufficient ?

Hi @Depak Basra, thank you for your comment! For the rear I think this will be no problem, no matter how low you want it. For the front, I think, you will have to go wider. Because if you calculate it, your absolut ET (spacers included) is ET 37 in the front now. While my ET is 23,5 (wheel ET 36 - spacer of 12,5 mm) and this barely fits. Greetz

Hey Kevin Marcus, it is reasonable comfortable! Ofcours In combination with a 18 inch wheel and a pretty 'soft' tyre. With 19 inch this would be a different story I think....

I'm puzzled as to what you are doing here. At 5:50 I can see that the finished rear suspension is still standard without coilovers. The front looks standard struts as well. Where's the conversion?

Hi @bikeman123, the 'adjustment ring' is indeed not visible in the rear since it's sitting in the wishbone. You can see the 'thread' of the struts in the front @7:59. Hope this clears it up :) Cheers

When you go to the lowest ride height in the rear you could use camber bolts but in my opinion it's not 100% necessary. Because it's just a little bit over spec and doesn't give any issue's when driving.

@@marlo916 Yeah it is definitely a little bit stiffer but still reasonable if you don't combine it with a low profile tyre.

I have them on the car for two months now, and I'm pretty happy with them. They are not track-spec coilovers but for street use they're perfect in my opinion!

anthony vds cool, how was your stock rear suspension, and creaks or squeaks? I'm trying to decide between the bc coilovers and the Godspeed coilovers

Stock I had the factory sport suspension which was actually decent and no creaks or squeaks but I wanted to go a little bit lower. And I have heard a lot of positive things about the BC's, I do not know whether the Godspeeds are equally as good.

The only tool you could consider 'special' was an impactwrench, all the rest was actually to do with the usual garage tools.

In the back it was all the way down, but you could remove the height adjuster to go appr. 2 cm lower. In the front I still have +- 3 cm of thread left. But I don't know whether I will have rubbing issue's or not when going lower.

@@B501R What are you talking about? You install coilovers the exact same way, you just have adjustments. Are you saying you got coilovers but don't know how to set them up? And the guy who replied before is wrong, you can get adjustable coilovers for this car.
