It'd be good if you can do a video on investments. I've done a similar thing to you, drawn all my Aussie super out and put it in fixed deposits which with a property investment provides me enough to live here. Where I am at is what to do once the terms end, because interest rate will have dropped.

The first condo I rented in Bangkok I stayed six months had the condo thoroughly cleaned, bought new pillows, bed sheets. Called the owner two weeks early to let them know condo was cleaned and ready for them to inspect. After that call the owner wouldn't answer my calls. Two months later I told a lady bartender that my previous landlord wouldn't answer my calls and return my deposit. The bartender called my landlord and the next day my landlord drove to my new address to return my deposit 100 percent.

At one time I thought the same - until I found out about all the smoke there ! -- Not so easy to breathe so I hear ? -- All else appears wonderful. Many leave for a few months every year to avoid all the smoke. -?- I really like the vibe the food choices the low costs and the English spoken in Siem Reap myself. Just too damn hot half the year ! Ay Chihuahua! A quick review of Thai real estate prices and currency fluctuations over the past decade suggests buying is a poor investment -- particularly with all the new buildings now going up. The *don't-pay-your-landlord's-mortgage* idea has worked well in the West, but not SE Asia. Also, I believe this gent will tire of Chiang Mai long before his 12-month rental term is up, and will be glad he didn't buy anything there.

Nice place for the $ as i see it ! -- The BS visa rules and costs are my biggest complaints with Thailand. Seems like they only want rich people to stay there long term. -?- Cambodia has a much friendlier visa for retirement and the price is cheap ! No requirements either !!! And you never have to leave on a BS - "visa run" like many require ? -- It would satisfy me - only w/o those financial requirements ? --- The lack of English might not be to my liking either compared to Cambodia or the Philippines - perhaps even Malaysia. For some reason - they all speak much more English. -?-

I was in Cambodia last year, I didn't think much of the food, rentals were cheap, but not much to visit other than the usual tourist attractions around the country and I found it covered in litter everywhere. I just retired to KL. I've lived in Asia ( Hong Kong) for 30 years and was torn between Thailand and Malaysia. I still absolutely love Thailand don't get me wrong, but ultimately Malaysian wins out for me in a number of categories. Retirement visa is permanent and straight forward compared to Thailand. No 90 day reporting crap. English is spoken by everyone, its an official language so everything is easy. Costs are less for most things than Thailand. My luxury condo is about 30-40 percent cheaper than the equivalent in Bangkok. It's very 'first world' just with developing country pricing. The only negative would be it's a much more quiet slow pace of life place - it doesn't have the dynamism, excitement, naughty nightlife of Thailand. But I'm all loved up so I'm not in the market for a gf but if you were some guys will prefer Thailand I think.

@@frankkluz9787 Yeah it's definitely very hot and humid. I think Baguio in the Philippines is not so bad climate wise, I had to wear a light sweater when I went, but the Philippines is the one place in Asia I personally would not retire to, I've got to lots of reasons. Hong Kong actually has seasons at least. It's cool and dry and sunny in November and December and gets properly cold in January/ February. I had the Aircon off from mid October until early May usually. My plan if KL gets too oppressive heat wise is to spend chunks of time at the hill stations. I might even move to the Cameron Highlands permanently - no Aircon required. It's beautiful and cool there but obviously quite small.
