Thanks for the video it helped a lot. I could not figure out how to get the compressor out until I watched this. Then it was so simple. I tried to get it out the bottom and looked at taking it out the top of the engine. I never thought about removing the fan shroud and taking it out the front. Thanks again.

TIP for removing the fan assemble... before you take the belt off, take a long punch and tap on the flat part of where you put the wrench on the fan. turn it and repeat on every other flat spot. then take your fan clutch tool and tap it to unscrew the fan. once it is loose it will come off freely

The denso I got only had maybe 1 oz in it, does that sound right, I looked online but it had conflicting answers, ones says 8 oz. Another says 10oz. So I really don't know how much to put in it ,but it doesn't sound right for it to have a oz. Of oil in it, any help would be appreciated, thanks for the vid, and God bless

@1919mblades Yes, the oil can also be added to the condenser, or accumulator, or just about anywhere you can physically put it. The refrigerant when pumping through the system mixes with the oil and it circulates throughout the entire AC system.

On my 2002 suburban with rear aircon . I only removed the plastic rock guard under the car . Got all the bolts easy and pulled it out back first next to the right side header . But , I'm tall with gorilla arms , and one of those electric 3/8 ratchets .

Hi Andrew, the Accumulator is similar to an AC Drier, one of it's functions is to remove the moisture out of the refrigerant, the difference from a drier is that it is on the low-pressure side of the system. Any time you open the system you want to replace to drier or accumulator to prevent moisture (humidity in the air) from damaging the internals of your AC system.

In your case, I would distribute the oil throughout the various components. that will ensure it flows properly throughout the system.

@1919mblades If there is metal in the system, the only thing you may want to do differently is to replace the AC condenser. The passages inside the condenser are quite small and can become easily clogged. You also want to do an extra thorough flush to be sure that 100% of the metal is out of the system so it does not destroy your new compressor.

Talon hendricks, the shop didnt tell me anything. I just went to advance auto to buy a refill can and the guy who works there attached a gauge to it and it showed it was already filled. But there was no cold air coming out so he said he could try to release some and when he did i saw whiyr exhaust come out the tailpipe and it had a smell to it. So yeah i came to the conclusion that the air compressor was shot
@APDTY
@APDTY 6 жыл бұрын
diva4lyfe2010 no a diagnosis is really required, no real evidence of anything unless gauges are looked at with the compressor running, if it is not running, then that must be diagnosed first before damming the compressor

The Tahoe would be just about the same as the truck in this video. I am not sure of what the labor cost would be because it varies so much from parts of the country and different shops. Your best bet is to call up a couple local shops if you aren't going to do the work yourself and ask how much they want.

I don't think there are any special tricks needed on that vehicle, once the system is empty you should be able to unscrew the lines going to the accumulator, and there should be a clamp about halfway down which needs to be unbolted, then it should come out.

I have a 1997 pontiac grand am se 2.4 four cyl engine. I'm putting a used compressor in my car. It says it takes 9oz. of oil on the compressor. I will drain most of the oil out of the compressor by removing the drain bolt and through the other ports. My question is does it matter where I pour the new oil in? Do I put it all in where the drain plug is? or do i pour half in there and the rest in the ports? And I read I should put some oil in the new accumulator? Correct? thanks

my 01 suburban 5.3 has some issues. last year the compressor stopped working and kept blowing the fuse, I think the clutch shit the bed, with 130k, I'm going to replace the entire compressor with a new clutch on it. my waterpump is lightly leaking so a good time to do both i think. one thing I noticed before the ac stopped working was, when b I went out for lunch and sat in my truck to eat (at work), the ac wouldn't blow cold, I had to drive the truck at speed 25mod and up for a bit, maybe around the block, then the ac would blow cold from then on, does that sound like maybe the fan clutch wasn't working properly? I am debating on installing a new fan clutch since it's all coming off
@APDTY
@APDTY 8 жыл бұрын
+brianallen0826 Replacing the fan clutch would be a good preventive repair, and yes your on the right track of diagnosing the problem. Air flow, check for blockages to the condenser and radiator. Having a low system charge could also show this same symptom. What was the coolant level? If any fluids like coolant or oil are low this will effect the engines ability to maintain a good operating temperature.

Hi, great video. I have a 2003 Suburban & when I run the AC there a a loud thumping noise, which I assume is coming from the belt trying to turn the compressor pulley. This only occurs when the engine is under load at about 25-35 mph. At lower speeds rpm or higher speeds the knocking/thumping noise disappears. The AC still blows super cold, so we've resorted to turning it off when we come to a stop then turn it back on after we get up to speed. Any ideas? To me is seems more like a clutch issue.
@APDTY
@APDTY 10 жыл бұрын
Identifying that noise would be the easiest way to identify the problem obviously, but maybe it is not making this noise when sitting at idle? A shop would try to identify where that noise is coming from first and would set the brakes, use wheel chocks or lift the vehicle just off the ground, then they may run the engine in neutral and if needed, put it in drive and slightly rev the engine to give it a load. Hopefully it is just an ac compressor and not an engine knock which also gets worse while under load.
@chinner8
@chinner8 10 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that we've broken 2 AC belts belts in the last 6-8 mo. Once was at idle with AC running. I revved engine up to see when the thumping sound occurred & the belt broke. It sounds like the compressor pulley is too hard to turn & the belt is slipping around it until the engine gets up to speed.
@APDTY
@APDTY 10 жыл бұрын
chinner8 ok, yeah the compressor is most likely starting to fail internally. It will start to be harder to turn and eventually will lock up totally. You want to replace that asap and will want to flush the rest of the AC system or replace the AC condenser. When the AC compressor starts to lock up internally, small pieces of the compressor will break off and circulate through the rest of the AC system. You want to prevent that s much as you can or more parts will need replacing as those small particles will float around and eventually go into the new compressor and cause it to fail.

Our 2007 GMC Envoy's AC works fine while driving, but when I am stopped, the air stops blowing cold. If I put it in park and and raise the RPM's it starts cooling again. Any ideas? Only warm while stopped.
@APDTY
@APDTY 10 жыл бұрын
Yes that symptom is very common when a cooling fan is failed or failing. Your model should have an electronic fan clutch attached to a plastic fan blade. It should pull air through the AC condenser and radiator when you are sitting at a stop light. You may also have an auxiliary fan attached to the radiator if you have a towing package. Both fans need to be checked and most likely the fan clutch is worn our and not spinning the fan blade enough to pull air through. That fan is also computer controlled and usually will throw a check engine light. If you have a check engine light on, then that is the first place to start and will most likely be a code pointing out something is wrong with then fan clutch. If no check engine light, then it may be best to have a shop do and AC check to make sure the AC pressures are working properly. If you can identify a bad cooling fan or blade, that will certainly cause the AC to get warm when the vehicle is sitting in place and now air is running through the condenser.

What is the wiring connector on the back of the compressor for?
@APDTY
@APDTY 4 жыл бұрын
Great question, the rear connector is a high pressure blow out switch, it is not the typical low and high pressure switch but a switch to shut down the compressor if the pressure gets too high, this switch can be a pain when it goes bad as you have to remove the compressor to replace that switch. This vehicle still has the typical high and low pressure switches and this internal compressor switch.

I already went to a few places and they cant seem to find a leak in any of the hoses, my AC doesn't blow cool air when im stopped or when I am driving. Blows hot air when I need it... Any suggestions?
@APDTY
@APDTY 9 жыл бұрын
Ask them to check the AC system, they have to check the pressures to see if you actually even need refrigerant. You may not have a leak at all and might just have a failed cooling fan as that is a number 1 cause of no cool air during a stop. The fan cools down the ac condenser and if it is not cooled down the high side ac pressures rise up and also you will get hot air.

Why to change accumulator, if only compressor is bad?
@APDTY
@APDTY 5 жыл бұрын
so first, the accumulator will not last the lifetime of 2 compressors, 2nd the accumulator has desiccant inside that absorbs moisture and this allows the performance of the ac to be good, 3rd all the compressor manufactures require the replacement of the accumulator and expansion valve and other procedures to be followed to even have a warranty on that compressor.
