i have the same problem with my Vivitar 28mm F2 FD mount lens. I emailed the seller as the description stated that it was fully functional but either the auto lever or the blades are stuck. Haven't heard back. Do you have any suggestions on how to clean them or fix it? Thank you!

So sorry to hear that. Have you tried what I did in the video. If you have and it didn’t workout, maybe you should try to dissemble the lens but doing that with much care. www.pentaxforums.com/forums/114-maintenance-repair-articles/391582-kiron-vivitar-28mm-f2-24mm-f2-sticky-iris-fix.html I found this link for you. I hadn't used one of my favorite lenses for over a year because I thought the aperture was stuck. When I checked the lock and it "magically" started working again I just sat there stunned and in disbelief that it was so simple. Thank you so much!

This is not a fix. This lens is operating normally. FD lenses are supposed to rest stationary at f5.6. Mounting the lens engages a release which allows the lens iris to open/close. This release can be done without mounting the lens by pressing in the button and shifting the mount. Because of the number of lenses now being used on mirrorless bodies, people have been playing around with the releases on these lenses. I suggest googling the proper operation of FD and Breechlock lenses so that you will know how to diagnose aperture behavior in Canon lenses. If you manipulate the mount improperly it will break the linkage.

This video is meant to help people who assumes the lens is broken when the breech lock is not in its resting position. It’s demonstrated how what would have had them render the lens unusable could be solved. For them it is a quick fix to what would have being a problem Or a quick info on the fd lens if that would be more appropriate to you

Totally agree. It's wrong to call it "fix" when it's no more than a "hack" how to check blades operation on unmounted lens. The real FIX takes much more time, tools and efforts. This video must me renamed.

Thank you! I just bought a Urth FD to E-mount and couldn't make the aperture to work (it was stuck at 1.8), after understanding the mechanism logic from your video I saw that I hadn't mounted the lens correctly, and now it works. The urth adapter has a bypass ring that controlls the apperture (it doesn't go all the way to 16 for some reason but it's fine at around 8 or so). Great video :)

I got the ring to move and the flange to move with the aperture ring, but the blades stayed at the wide open position. I believe the oil has caked onto the blades so now I need the lens to be taken apart and cleaned. The camera and lens sat in a drawer for over 30 years which explains the like-new conditionn apperance on Ebay. Thanks for giving me options to explore anyway

Success. I dropped my Nikon 85 mm F1.8 g while attached to my D610, and thankfully, the camera was fine, but the aperture switch on the lens stuck while stopped down. After sleeping on it and thinking about the cost to repair or replace the lens, I thought this had happened to someone before me, and my KZfaq search brought me here. I unscrewed the 4 lens screws holding the mount in place, and after removing it, I was able to manipulate the aperture switch freeing the stuck blades, and now all is well :) Thank you for the inspiration!

Great video. I have a Nikon 19mm that the aperture stopped working. The camera (D850) reads f/2.8 ironically, for the lens only opens up to f/4. I use that lens with an dapter, do you think that adapter could have damaged any connecting transmission from the lens to the camera? That lens, the 19mm Tilt-shift, does not have the little level on the back side of the lens. What is your opinion on this please please?
@videotechxplained7020
@videotechxplained7020 4 жыл бұрын
I wish I could help but I am Afraid I have no idea. But since you can see a f2.8 on camera when the lens’ wide aperture is f4 might be as a result of the lens not being able to communicate with the camera properly. Kindly try another adapter if you haven’t

@@videotechxplained7020 yeah ill take a deeper look into it. My buddy managed to get it to go past f11 now. But no access to f16, the final stop on the lens. I also didn't know that the adapter acts like a de-clicked aperture too. So I pretty much have the full f stop range there. But I rather have the full clickable range from the lens itself.
