I am so proud to have played with you and it makes me happy beyond belief to call the best sax man on the planet my friend.

The best thing to do is just sit down with records of your favorite artists and just listen, and eventually play along. Transcription is a huge key to learning the jazz idiom.

His parkeresque licks sound like bean, and his coltrane licks smooth as getz. I love it.

My only issue with this video is that I can only give it one vote for thumbs up. In my humble opinion, this is the greatest version of Body and Soul that I have heard.

What I would give to come up with something this beautiful. When you came make memories of long ago come up from just a few minutes, that when you know you have talent. And not just memories about love. Memories about depression, anger, all that.

I've been playing since the beginning of 7th grade. I got lessons with the alto in 6th but in 7th I wanted more of a challenge. I just fell in love with the tenor and am still playing it today =D

I cannot believe that I'm hearing myself saying this but The Hawk (My hero Hawkins) would have been in awe of this player. As for me, anybody wanna buy a Mk 6 tenor with an OttoLink Florida 8 star mouthpiece? Collect it after my funeral. I'm dying with a broken heart. Wonderful Mr Rojas, just wonderful. Eat your heart out Trane. All said of course under the after effects of the discovery of a new (to me) player who has simply cut my legs from under me.

Oh my goodness, my jaw dropped after seeing your performance. You've really inspired me to learn and play! It's amazing how you can remember such a long complicated sounding song and play with so much passion in the sound. Great job!

You did WORK on this song. This is one of my favorite jazz ballads. Maybe a few too many notes (The cadence would've been more impressive if the entire song wasn't like that)but that tone and your technicality makes up for it. Can't wait till I can play changes like that. Sick job.

Excelente sonido. ¿Cuesta mucho acostumbrarse a tocar con cañas duras? Pregunto porque a mí no me gustan. No me siento cómodo. ¿Creés que condiciona en algo el sonido?

how are you playing this. In what order are these notes in? Is there a name for the style the notes are in.. It sounds like soul or blues? They sound like random notes but in a way fit. What is this called and how do you do it?

@bambaDisease It has to be the silver metal selmer lig.. it shouldn't squash your reeds too much.
@matthewpurpura16 жыл бұрын
where do you go to school?
@AnibalRojasmusic13 жыл бұрын
@bambaDisease I use a selmer alto ligature on my guardala or a regular rovner ligature. Never really liked any others for this mouthpiece... all the best...

that sax set sounds just exactly like Michael Brecker's...lol

nice usage of the scales. Sometimes a person can do too much of it, just too much of anything...well..can be too much.. But yea I can tell you meant it to be laid back yet strung out at the same time, so keep up the playing! :-)
@eyeheartchrist15 жыл бұрын
...Kenny G did the same thing(you may already know this, but some that read these comments might not), and it was respectively considered Smooth Jazz/Pop. I guess it can be said, that it's been his cup of yea since the start, because I was thinking if he made a transition from Smooth Jazz to Pop, but since the first album he did some pop in there too. Basically, I guess he shrugs it off when he hears that people(especially trained ears) have little respect for calling himself a Jazz musician.

Great solo. Like the crazy C intro!! (Some players finger altissimo, some harmonics, the strength of the partials are dictated by the timbre of the horn)
@havanatlc16 жыл бұрын
Wow you sound even better than Dexter Gordon in that soug.
@ricaard17 жыл бұрын
A bit of Coltrane in places...

Mark VI -- no way, I would never be crazy enough to make my own reeds. I'll leave that to double reed players.
@AnibalRojasmusic11 жыл бұрын
@chechoquena17 жыл бұрын
TOCAS BIEN PRIMO soy Checho el de la quena, consiguete un correo en hotmail, sabes yo tambien toco saxo pero no ta bien como tu, eres muy bueno
@patoska16 жыл бұрын
great player.. and great solo impro.. but i think that this is not difficult to get if you know 100% the scale where you're playing it requires practice..
@altosaxandy17 жыл бұрын
Anibel to me sounds exactly like Ed Calle. He does sound amazing, but i feel he is more like Calle than Brecker or Trane or Getz.
@MrsHatakeChan16 жыл бұрын
That riff at the end sounded familiar. Stolen from Dexter Gordon, perhaps? :D
@catandpiddle16 жыл бұрын
"Phantomdennis2006 Some people play tenderly on ballads. Your version seems like an exercise in dim. scales and altered dominant substitutions." My thought exactly... What is this guy trying to express? Beats me as all I hear is extroversion.
@nedmanxxx16 жыл бұрын
overwrought but a lesson in soundshape
@ukjazzboy16 жыл бұрын
Sweet solo mate!! maybe slightly too many brecker licks though.
@saxophonedave16 жыл бұрын
I don't think he sounds exactly like Michael Brecker, yes they both sound great, a fine example of tenor saxophone sound, something to work towards. I agree with 1234 Jesus I hope some day I sound that good!
@dayve1017 жыл бұрын
not quite like brecker RIP...im sure he( this sax player) would agree.....he sounds as far as tone and style close to ed calle which is probably the closest to sounding like brecker as far as "junk" if you dont know who ed calle is him and mike were really good friends he lives in miami you can check them trading out on arturo sandovals swingin.."salt peanuts" and check out eds album called in the zone and check out misty and youll hear the similarities b/w ed and this guy....but sounds great!
@tenneymj15 жыл бұрын
It sounds like Michael Brecker rubbed one out and forget to throw the napkin away. Come on man.
@schmijm115 жыл бұрын
amazing, unfortunately i hear zero anibal and 100% Brecker.....
@eyeheartchrist15 жыл бұрын
I would imagine, but on the other hand, I think what it boils down to, is that he discovered that many of the untrained ears for jazz, and saxophone music in general, don't particularly like Improvisation and change in style in musicians. That is a sad thing in my opinion, because you see it in a lot of popular music, such as Rolling Stones for an example. They were experimental up until they gained worldwide fanfare for their work....I shall continue in the next comment.
@gigglepet16 жыл бұрын
you think he listens to brecker?? hahahaha nice job man
@gianmariamatteucci14 жыл бұрын
lol do you like brecker?
@geremie0816 жыл бұрын
you sound pretty good man but that 1st note was shaky.
@eyeheartchrist15 жыл бұрын
I'll sort of stand up for Mr. G, because he earned a degree in music performance(correct me if I'm wrong), but it seems that the only reason his playing is so predictable and uneducated sounding, is because that's what makes him the big bucks. Therefore he found the zone that kept the money flowing, and got stuck in it. I'm sure he knows his stuff, but when it comes to throwing down tracks, it's all the same in my opinion.
@saxgomez15 жыл бұрын
suppose you're right. that must mean Mr G. must hate his own music by now....lol
@futbolplaya79717 жыл бұрын
oh, gosh, randomscales at 200bpm party of one? I wish these guys would play something more catchy and melodic Instead of those long slurs of notes that are completely uninteligable. Talent, use it!
