As the Mayan kingdom faces its decline, the rulers insist the key to prosperity is to build more temples and offer human sacrifices. Jaguar Paw, a young man captured for sacrifice, flees to avoid his fate.

+jackhackett80 Absolutely spot-on call on Apocalypto, but I wonder if Let the Right One In was actually that underrated? Granted, most Anglophonic viewers will probably think of the (as I have been told) inferior remake, but the Swedish original did garner very respectable ratings from audiences and critics that did see it. Cloud Atlas was conceptually interesting, but I think as a sheer movie it had too many flaws to qualify as an underrated masterpiece. In my opinion, of course! :)

They going to migration (current for them), it is difficult, but she said: "The love they have for all, kindness, respect for nature, all is love and tender in our lives..." "Apocalypto" is a masterpiece. I've -bought the bootlegged dvd- borrowed the dvd from my aunt which lives in US and because I couldn't find the subtitles in its menu I've honestly thought it's a movie played in Mayan only (like "The Passion of the Christ" played entirely in Old Aramaic). I've watched it and I liked it so much that when my wife came home I've played the movie for a second time and while watching it I was translating to her, step by step what was my interpretation of their dialogue in Mayan. Anyways, weeks later, by accident I've found the subtitles hidden by mistake in a submenu and when I've played it I was shocked to discover that my explanations were spot on, almost 100%. The whole movie is perfect; the way it was directed, the scenes, the script, the characters and their flawless act, everything is so beautifully put together that you can watch it with no subtitles at all. Try it. This is a work of a genius. PS Later on I've bought a legit dvd for my good movies collection. It deserves this statute

Because liberals thrive on canceling things they don't agree with, and they hate Mel.. but Mel is still doing his thing no matter how the left feels. They will just do anything to ensure his movies don't become blockbuster hits anymore.

This and hacksaw ridge are by far Mel Gibson's best pieces of art. Both movies were masterfully done and are true pieces of art that deserve FAR MORE recognition than they get. I could watch both movies endlessly and never get sick of them. Credit is owed where credit due and he gets all the credit in the world from me. Many people may not like Mel Gibson as a person but he is a very very talented artist. We cannot deny him that.

I still watch this movie in awe ( it's only my twentieth time) , although I know most of the scene I still discover things, what a piece of art, what a window into a world so unknown to the western eye.....like a new book I've introduce this film to so many of friends, Mel Gibson vision and artistry is fresh, unapologetic, sans condescension and way beyond so many predictable director of our day...Just one thing isn't the arrival of the Spanish a tad early ??

I can still remember being excited when I first heard about this movie. Mesoamerican civilizations-primarily the Maya-have fascinated me since 6th grade and while I am not a Mel Gibson fan, this film is great even though it has some historic inaccuracies. Hope the Maya and the other great cultures of Mesoamerica get the proper representation on screen in the near future. Still a great movie all in all.
@nicholasoneal15212 жыл бұрын
Which historical inaccuracies are you talking about?
@HistoryLover15502 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasoneal1521 I recommend you watch HistoryBuff's review of the movie and he points out the inaccuracies. Yet to name a few- Jaguar Paw's village, how some of the characters were dressed, the architecture of the city melded together different styles from different periods of Mayan history and Gibson did copy Aztec elements in the sacrificial ritual (not a lot but I noticed a few). While there are some aspects of the film that were correct, it shows how infamous Gibson is in picking what he wants from history just to tell a story he wants to tell. The movie I still admire yet see there were some elements and the screenplay could have been portrayed better.
@nicholasoneal15212 жыл бұрын
@@HistoryLover1550 I've seen the video, and """"""""""""History"""""""""""""" Buff really didnt know what he was talking about at all. He literally thought the film took place during the Classical Mayan Collapse.
@HistoryLover15502 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasoneal1521 I will agree with you a bit on that, some of History Buff's review I took with a grain of salt. He also rambled on quite a bit about his disdain for Gibson, which I kind of get but I digress. Though I give him a nod for consulting a Mayan expert to help in his review. Granted, when I first saw the movie I did not know as much about Mayan history as I do now and could see the film was aimed at the Post-Classic period. Apart from his review, I spoke with both a Mayanist and Art Historian who pointed out inaccuracies as far as some of the personal adornment, hairstyles etc. Still, I admire what "Apocalypto" did portray correctly and the I do use it as a template in a way as I am planning on writing a novel set within the Mayan civilization myself. All in all, when it comes to Period Pieces, you can't have everything.

Mello Carrier Are you agreeing with Mel Gibson that all the world's wars were started because of Jews? You are the biggest dumbass. Mel Gibson would take that spot, but you're the bigger dumbass for being a fucking sheep that listens to a dumbass. No one is taking away from Mel's ability to produce good movies, but that does not excuse his deplorable attitude, character, and behavior.
