Not a steel bridge, but this last spring I found out that a covered bridge that I last drove over 50 years ago was purchased by a company when it was dismantled in 1973 and put in storage until 1986. They then sold it and it was installed over a creek in a park. I made the trip to that county and drove over the bridge again. I might be one of the few people who's two trips over the bridge was separated by half a century.

Hello Mr Laws! Oh I’m so grateful & thankful for you that you’re documenting all of the history before it’s all gone. I’m with you sir…. I could sit forever on the banks & listen to the peacefulness of nature. I think it would be awesome if you could write a book or do audio books where you describe these things from the past! Have you ever thought about that?? In my humble opinion, YOU are a treasure to all of us!!! Blessings always! ❤️✝️

Terrific video! I had no idea that a portion of the 33 bridge was used to create Black Fox bridge. That's an early example of repurposing materials, kinda' what's popular to do these days. Thank you sir for your insight!

Thank you Donnie for sharing and keeping the memories of the steel bridges alive for future generations. We have a few steel bridges still around in Alabama, each time I see one while I'm traveling, it takes me back and I can almost see the old vehicles that traveled across the old bridge . I always enjoy listening to each of your videos and I'm looking forward to your wild life video on Monday. Until your next video, God bless you brother.

What a wonderful video Mr. Donnie. We enjoyed learning about these old bridges. When I was a kid there was a (reel to reel) short story movie called Occurrence on Owl Creek Bridge they used to show us at school about a soldier hung on a steel bridge like one of these. They should restore these old bridges for foot traffic. Lovely. Have a wonderful day today and thank you always for all your effort making wonderful and meaningful tv for us to enjoy. God Bless you and yours. 🫶👏🙂

Gorgeous waterways and byways. I love old bridges. We keep our disused bridges here in Australia as well not do much in major cities like Sydney but coastal and rural areas do. I love the Louisiana swamp lands. I was given a vertical tour of the wetlands and they are so unique, no other country has these magnificent swamps. They say that Madison County has beautiful bridges I must see if I can find a video on them. 💚 love your your channel Donnie💜

Good job on this one. Here in NW. ga. the Etowah River and several creeks feeding the river resulted with us having our share of metal bridges. Most are gone but a couple still left just for show. Done my share of playing and swimming around these old bridges also remember the sounds our school bus made while crossing on those planks. Wonderful life I've been blessed with. Thanks for the show enjoyed it. God Bless. NW ga.

Thank you my friend for reminding us of these old sentinels. There were 2 of these bridges in Smith County, TN over the Caney Fork River. The one close to Gordonsville had a 90 degree curve built into the bridge! The other, between Lancaster and Club Springs ended at a bluff with a 90 degree turn. I loved these old bridges!! My Daddy drove across the “Stonewall bridge, the one with the curve ON the bridge, pulling a bulldozer on a trailer. I was scared silly, he just laughed!! The other, Laycock Bridge was a frequent path for me as it was the shortest route to my best friends home. I was saddened when Laycock was torn down. I believe Stonewall is still standing, rusting away.

Two of the old steel truss bridges here on the New River where I live are long gone now. Replaced by concrete bridges due to being damaged beyond repairs to the upper steel structures. Hit by over sized loads that broke and bent key parts of the truss supports. There's a few smaller truss bridges over some of the smaller creeks here in southwest Virginia. There's a few under Smith and Claytor lakes when they were built by Appalachian Power. Love the videos and thank you for saving our history and heritage of Appalachia.

I remember as a tiny little thing, my family from NC (Mom, Dad, Sister and me) going "up home" to Fries Virginia and when coming out of Galax we would cross a HUGE Steel bridge. Tressel looking, "covered" crossing the New River. Back then it almost looked futuristic! My precious Husband and precious children and I went to back to "Home" when the floods hit Kentucky to take donations from NC to my Cousins church, they were taking the supplies to Kentucky to help those in need .. i was SHOCKED after telling my children about the "High bridge" the steel cocered, old trussel style steel bridge, to turn the curve and find it was gone. A beautiful but VERY different and much lower concrete bridge now stands in its place. There was a sadness when crossing mixed with the aw of the beauty of this new, fresh, modern concrete bridge crossing the most beautiful section of the new river!! Somewhere I have pictures of that bridge. Its amazing and yet so sad to see progress like these bridges. The story is, it was replaced because of time and stress on the metal but also due to the many wrecks of people coming out of a hard right turn, crashing into the steel girders. It was also quite narrow, very elevated out of the side of the mountain ridge, and you felt every bump from the build when driving over it. Thank you for sharing this. Im sharing this video with my children, (11, 5 and 3) so they can see what Mommy is talking about. Thank you Donny, God bless you beyond your imagination my precious friend! (Had to edit and add, nothing quite like Baptisms in rivers .. my Daddy was a Pastor and he baptized his big and only brother in New River in Fries Virginia. Daddy did many a baptisms in Cripple Creek and the New River before I was even born, but the last one he did in the river, I was a teenager and he was blessed to go up and Baptise His brother. Every other service was in a Baptismal inside churches after that one. How precious his last one in the river, the place where they started, the New River, was his own brother that he prayed so hard for all those years.)

Great video beautiful country. I remember where I live we had an old steel bridge across the reddies River. It was not very wide only one car at a time could cross it you had to stop and check for another car and it rattled so much you thought it would fall. 😮 but they tore it away and and put in a new cement one. So many memories I really enjoyed seeing these pictures thanks for sharing this. You are so right it's going away so fast I look every day at a place where a old building or something used to be. Thanks for keeping all the memories alive. Looks like a great fishing spot.

Really nice video. My Dad ran a State Park in North Dakota back in the late sixties early seventies. The entrance was a steel bridge. I used to fish for pike under it. Went back about 10 years ago. The bridge is still up but it's closed to traffic. It's amazing how seeing it brought back memories. I'd love to see these bridges in person.

Thanks Donnie for sharing the pictures of these old steel bridges and the beautiful overlook of the Norris lake / Powell Valley area . We have a steel bridge on Hwy 20 that's still in use today over the Appalachicola River. I've traveled over it hundreds of times. Beautiful view of the wide river below.

@donnielaws7020 I like the photos of all those people on the bridge attending the baptisms. How many people would do that today? 🤔 Not many, I think. People were more God-fearing back in those days. Our country needs to get back to that.🇺🇸🙏✝️

We had an old metal bridge across the French Broad River below my house that was replaced. I got a good photo of it before they tore it down. It literally made me sick at what they called progress. That bridge had withstood floods, car wrecks, the elements and the passing of time just to be replaced by slabs of concrete. See you Monday. Have a Blessed weekend.

Thanks for the great video Donnie! IN our neck of the woods we had these old bridges that as kids we jumped from and fished from, they're about all gone now. When we were little mom called them talking bridges as the old boards made their noises as we drove over them and I still use that saying today and people look at me funny when I say talking bridges. Just my moms way of entertaining us when we were little. Take care friend!!!
