As a SOBO, you're getting the really hard parts of the AT over with. Once you go over Moosilauke and hit Jeffers Brook shelter, the trail eases up 100% and you'll start racking up the big miles each day. I live in North-central NH, I hike each week in NH (or ME) and all I can tell you right now is to grit your teeth, suck it up and wrap your head around the experience. That attitude (and a lot of cussing!) will see you through. Consider it INTERESTING. You'll probably never hike this kind of terrain again in your life so get into it, laugh instead of cry (though crying is VERY cathartic and refreshing from time to time). From where you are now to Jeffers, is, overall considering the AT mileage, not that far. Chin up (for the view) and buckle up for the ride. 👍

If you liked those caves, you will enjoy Mahoosuc Notch, haha! (where 1 mile = 1 hour, basically 😄). It's so good that you had decent weather for the summits of the Bigelows, at least. The views there are so spectacular that even a little haze doesn't hurt them much. But that's really too bad about your hammock! And for sure, phones do have a hard time working in the rain. I sure hope your knee turns out okay!
