The age of the graves tell the tale, the Kline family didn't last a generation at this place but we do find some of the old artifacts they lost. Take this venture with me to the old Kline Homestead.

Hey Chad thanks for the comment buddy. Not every site is a gold mine as you know....but every site has history associated with it and that is treasure to me as well.....wondering what happened to these people, and surmising the wife and child died early, and the man took up and abandoned the place speaks of intense hardship. I was perfectly fine finding what I did there....it was a good day.

Todd, such a peaceful place to detect. The headstones were beautifully engraved. Very nice finds around the homestead and we hope you will another video from that location. I am pleased you showed the junk as well, you are correct when saying dig it all. That silver button shined so proud. It is amazing what the earth keeps safe. Take care👍😀👏

Glad you enjoyed it Twins. That silver button looked as new now as it did then I bet. I was stunned when I flipped that over. It shone like chrome but the way it was in the ground it was protected from the elements. Aren't these old places interesting......

Around 5:50 I think. There were 3 things sitting on a rock. I think you said at first you thought it might have been a stirrup. A circular object where a section of the metal is flattened, but the rest is angled up.

Hey Gay this site has been a somber one for me. Not a lot of relics but they weren't there long either. The wife and child died early and young and the distraught husband abandoned the place. Yes, they never lost a lot but they didn't live there long and nobody took up to farming it after them. The hardships these families faced just to live and survive, and here they lie in unforgotten and unkempt graves. For me, I was happy to find what I did and honor these people even in a small way. I hope you enjoyed it.

I did enjoy it. It is so sad to see the unkempt graves of these amazing people. I've often wondered when we would be in the mountains how on earth did these people do what they did in such places. I admire their determination and all they endured. There are so many graves in the mountains of young children. It is really sad to see them. I watched Leo on the Hillbillies files and he and Heather have shown a lot of them. Some families lost so many babies. They have found so many grave yard lost to time. He is forever hiking up mountains thru streams and some of the most out of the way places to find lost graves. He also did metal detecting on one of the Hatfields home places and found coins in a jar and a lot of artifacts from there. One of the descendants has a museum there and puts all those things on display. Leo is kin to the Hatfields and McCoys. God bless you for doing what you do and the respect you show these amazing people

That axe head was used as a wedge for splitting wood. I found one like it here in Fla about 6 inches deep. It was left by a squatter family about 1900.

There were several DeMent/DeMent families in Virginia and Ohio who fought in the American Revolutionary War and Civil War. A few of them made their mark in American history. Could you investigate this family?
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives 5 ай бұрын
you know it's interesting you mention that name. My Brother in Law is from Ohio and I lived in Ohio for years myself, and he had neighbors with that name, and I had a friend whose last name was DeMent. I have not heard of that name here though.....I get a lot of requests to research family names, and I love that history, but I really try featuring families here where I can do a detection too to make the videos more than just a storyline. If you could send me a lead, I can check it out.

Todd Neat finds!! It's a shame the gravestones are all knocked over. How do you like using the Deus?? I have the Nox 800 and a friend uses both Deus 1 or 2. Nice little competition between us
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives 5 ай бұрын
I still have my NOX and love it. There are uses for it that beat the Deus in my opinion so I use both.....even in some videos you might see me switching them up. I did in this video but nobody noticed. I take both machines and test the site using both. I try only featuring one though since people would be confused or send me a slew of questions about the comparison. I do like the Deus and can assure you it will find everything if you have the settings right on the best programs. It is a complicated machine and takes time to get used to and good with it.

It’s a shame that there’s not a fence around that cemetery to at least keep the cows from destroying it! We have an old cemetery on our property that we have always maintained a fence around it! It’s the least we can do out of respect!

I agree....these lands pass from owner to owner and over time new owners don't feel an obligation to keep these places up. The families of the buried lose interest after several generations pass too......one of the reasons I tell my wife to scatter my ashes......

Where or How do you do your research on properties that you detect ?
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives 5 ай бұрын
Hey there friend, no permissions are easy to get unless its family or close friends. I pour over old maps online. The USGS has a historic map section on its website that shows the locations of houses as far back as 1885. Sanbourne Fire Maps are online and detailed showing houses county by county as far back as 1885 too. Here in Virginia it was settled so early that maps go back very early and are available online by typing in old maps of Virginia. I also have some books detailing the history of families in these parts and mention where their homes were located. It is a lot of work, but if it was easy, all the easy places have been hit over and over again by other people......you can do it!!!
