Not even 5 miles from my childhood home stands this remote 1700's pioneer cemetery in the wilds of Western PA.

Hey man. Just got back on line and now I'm binge watching you to catch up. I moved to the west side of St Augustine and just got my tablet back on line.

Hey Gay great to hear from you. I was in Frostproof Florida not long ago last month. It was 39 there. Brrrr….

It's been cold here this winter. Wasn't sure if it was that cold or I was just that old.

I grew up next door in Westmoreland County. As a kid, I found at least two cemeteries from the Revolutionary War era hidden amongst wooded overgrowth. All were forgotten, located on top of steep hills with no easy access. There is a communications tower standing where one was. I wonder what became of the interred and their headstones.

Been through that county many times. I now live in Virginia. There are two places close to my house now where I’ve located cemeteries on old maps but the farmers must have removed the stones for their cattle. Now one farm was sold and a house is being built directly over top of one of these cemeteries. War of 1812 patriots were buried there. I think this is more common than we realize.

The first two headstones are modern era. You can tell by the machine made carving. So they have ancestors probably nearby that had those made and probably replaced old broken ones. The other headstones were original. Look in a local phone book and reach out to stone carvers in the area.

The SAR installed the headstones to honor this patriot....don't know when though.

This cemetery has to have someone maintaining the grounds. The condition of the headstones and the lack of overgrowth suggests this cemetery has been maintained not long ago. To put it in Pittsburgh-ese, it has been recently red up.

I’m heading back soon to look for the old house site. I will ask the farmer if anyone keeps it up. Your observations make me wonder too.
