Hi there is an new firmware update for the EMU Model C available ! see the BMOW homepage and a new video from him on his youtube channel named stevechamberlin - just one Install file instead two , better display use and new startscreen and some more features i own this cute little thing since two days and do my first experiences- very nice

@@JDW- Hihihiii there is even a much newer firmware version avaiable - 4 days later , just perssed in before thanks giving ;-) - brighness and big display for the 51 eyes ;-) looks like a beta version for provis , as a beginner i will stay at the 221118 till the 221122 is fully tested and released click on the BLOG button on BMOW homepage right above - out of stevs changing text file : November 22, 2022, 221122A - Added a top-level settings menu that can be accessed by pressing SELECT during startup. There are submenus for choosing the emulation mode, display brightness, and display type. November 18, 2022, 221118M - Introduced a new, simplified firmware naming scheme. Names are now YYMMDD with an A or M suffix for Apple II or Macintosh/Lisa version firmware. Greetings MacMadTom

@@NTTom2 Thanks for guiding me. Here's the link with full info on the Nov. 22nd, 2022 update, which has all the fancy graphics and UI changes: www.bigmessowires.com/2022/11/22/floppy-emu-new-smartport-ui-and-settings-menu/ I've not tested it yet, but the changes are HUGE, especially for owners of the Apple IIe Card. Why? Because the new FloppyEMU firmware now "introduces a new UI for dynamically managing and selecting the desired disk images, entirely within the Floppy Emu menus, and without needing to rename any files on the SD card." That's fantastic!

I wanted to send you my best wishes. As someone whose close relatives have also been impacted by cancer, you and your family are in my thoughts. Thanks so much for all your content, it’s so informative and entertaining. I’m a vintage Mac collector and it was your videos that gave me the courage to work on my Mac 512k and Colour Classic. I also enjoy visiting Japan (currently planning my fifth visit for 2023), and as such I found your video on the Macintosh Calligraphy app particularly fascinating. A wealth of information. Both thumbs up, thanks for posting. Running the 2e card on a LC475. I have a similar CH joystick with the same problem you had. Also have the same issues with the floppy emu and the no buffers issue on some of the games. Your fix works sometimes, but not all the time. Such is the challenge we face. 😏

I purchased it from Javier Rivera, who is basically "Mr. Apple II" in the Apple ][ community. It wasn't new old stock, but it certainly does appear like it is. Not sure if he deyellowed it. I don't think so. I guess the previous owner stopped having fun on the Apple II ages ago and just kept the peripherals properly stored somewhere. I appreciate the fact it looks N.O.S. very much. Being an Apple product fan, the "look" of the thing I am using is about as important as its function.

@@JDW- I agree! I'm sure I've paid too much for many of my compact Macs this year, but they look VERY nice. Even the Lisa keyboard I recently purchased looks good-still can't believe I paid that much for a KEYBOARD-but it's NICE.

There is also a conversion of Ultima 4 and Ultima 5 that put the WHOLE game on a single 3.5" disk image...

Informative as always! Just one thing, do you know how to get disk images (as in Hard Disk Images) to work on the Floppy Emu? I've been whacking my brain on how to do it and scoured every article written about it that I could find but I still couldn't get mine to show the Hard Disk Images on there. By this I mean I have Hard Disk images on the Emu, but when I go to select them so they work with my Mac Plus, it doesn't show on the Emu. As far as I know, I've installed the latest firmware (the latest November one I think) if that makes a difference. Any advice?

Hi, Taijan. Thank you for your kind words. The first thing you want to do is update to the latest December 2, 2022 firmware. After that you simply need to take note that you must use HD20 Mode on your Floppy EMU in order to get hard disk images to work with your Macintosh Plus. Any vintage Macintosh computer which supports connection of an actual HD20 serial hard disk drive will support the HD20 mode of the floppy EMU. You then need to exit that mode in order to use regular floppy disk images. More details about this are presented in the floppy EMU documentation. Please let me know if this helps.

At 23min in when you accidentally opened the debugger prompt thing, you can just type in "G" to resume normal execution (rather than "G FINDER" which kills the current application, though I never figured out why it works that way, since I thought "G" is a "go to [memory address]" command, is "FINDER" a built-in alias to wherever the Finder process is in memory? I am doubtful lol)

Actually, if you rewatch 23:00 closely, you will see I typed G and then Return first very quickly, which accomplished nothing. Subsequent to that, I type G FINDER and then return, which produced the dialog box. I then clicked the Continue button in the dialog box, which took me to the Finder. Sometimes one will work while the other will not.

karateka seems to run faster than on my LC (also on 1Mhz) ..so the video of the mac is much slower on the LC as on your LC 575...

The video is handled exclusively by the Mac, not the IIe Card. It has therefore been my theory that the faster the Mac's motherboard, the faster the video should be in the IIe environment. And since there is no dedicated video card on the LC575, that means the CPU is handling the graphics load. My CPU is overclocked. Even when I down clock it to 40MHz, it's still faster than the stock 33MHz. But I currently have clocked it back up to 50MHz. I think that makes a positive difference.

@@JDW- I noticed a small difference between the IIe card in the LC and the IIgs playing prodos-converted version of death sword. The IIgs was noticible faster...I think about 10-15%...don't know how the difference will be on my overclocked LC475/33 full 040...but at the moment I will not switch the machines...I am trying to get Harddrives in my IIgs working.... I am thinking about copying whole prodos-harddisk-images via ADTpro from my MacMiniG4/10.3.9 via cable to the IIgs...but I don't know how to do prepare the CF-Cards. If the will be only 4 volumes possible I will go for 2xIIgs and 2xIIe.

@@drzeissler If you start watching my video from 25:37, you will see the game AUTOBAHN. My car is stable, but the other cars appear jittery to me. How is that game on your IIgs? I'm trying to determine if the jitter appears on other real Apple II computers, or if it is just something inherent to the IIe Card's slower graphics.

@@JDW- Can't play it on IIe card because it's not in my version of totalreplay and the dsk image get's shredded on my LC with IIe card...the floppy issue you know...I can play it on IIgs though, it's MUCH faster than on your machine, hardly playable can't tell how this can be downclocked, it seems not so jerky like on your machine, but also not completely smooth though.

@@drzeissler I'm actually new to the Apple II. I only started playing with my IIe Card this summer. Prior to that, I had never touched a IIe before. And I've still never touched an actual Apple II. So I would strongly recommend that you post your experience over at the Apple II Enthusiasts group on FaceBook, where you can ask about slowing down IIe Mode on a IIgs, for example. LC is set up mostly done...IIe card-setup on the very beginning. Never got the LC in 512x384...regardless what adaper, regardless what TFT, LCII does not work in 512x384 too...only LC475 does. Love LC/II because of 6.0.8 and single-finder-mode so that the desktop is blanked out when starting a game that uses 512x384. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j8-TmdR03ZvRXZ8.html

I have the 640x480 VGA mod installed on my Color Classic Mystic, which is why the IIe Card display does not span the full height and width of the visible CRT display area. I have been told that if the IIe Card is installed on a Color Classic without the VGA mod (which displays 512x384), then the IIe Card will display its 560x384 pixels within that full display area. In other words, the pixels are smaller when viewing the IIe Card content on a VGA display, be that on a modded Color Classic or on another Mac LC computer with a VGA display. I don't see a smaller content area a bad thing because the pixels are so large on Apple II machines anyway. It makes it look a bit more like the Mac pixels, which I rather like.
