@@tonyburzio4107 one should note that they very likely are required to do that because of the license terms. Apple is still Apple and without gaining something valuable they tend to keep their stuff proprietary. In this case they gained the ability to do what they do, actually get somewhere. Metal and Vulcan are much closer than Metal and the old Dx APIs before 12 (from what I know), and Linux and MacOS are both in broad strokes POSIX/Unix based, this means the Windows API adaptions in Wine also kinda work.

@@tonyburzio4107 Proton is already in the Linux world and is what made the Steam Deck possible. While some people confuse that you need Steam OS also that isn't true. You can use Proton with virtually any Linux Distro. Plus running modern gaming hardware plus the low overhead of Linux games are already running faster on Linux than Windows. Wine/dxvk/proton are not emulators. Proton converts directx to Vulkan. It isn't emulation. It utilizes Wine and DXVK (DirectX Over Vulkan) for translating DirectX programs to Vulkan. Games built for Windows communicate with graphics cards via DirectX, and it allocates the resources needed to run them.Under the hood, DirectX initiates Direct3D calls to render the graphics. Proton steps in here and converts these calls to equivalent Vulkan calls. This is how Proton runs Windows games on Linux and Linux-based systems like the Steam Deck. The problem with this method so far is there are still some issues with anti cheat. Simple terms it thinks code is being manipulated or altered. The problem with MAC OS and this method is that MAC OS killed off 32 bit support. OpenGL support and hasn't supported Vulkan or DX. Using this method would still basically mean you probably won't ever get older 32bit dx9 games running. Unless Apple changes something. So in the end it could be good for the most modern of games supporting DX12 but could still have issues with everything else. Some developers are still bringing games to market using DX11. Online games like Guild Wars 2 just got updated but instead of going with DX12 they also went with DX11 for whatever reason.

Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. I can already tell that the big push for Apple M3 silicon will be gaming and VR. Now that Apple has finished the transition of all their computing products from x86_x64, their main focus will be getting developers to natively support Apple Silicon for gaming and VR. Developing for VR and Gaming require very similar approaches, and especially if you push gaming on the Vision Pro as a priority. I can't think of an application better suited to take advantage of the Vision Pro than gaming.

The future of silicon is open-source hardware, including chips like RISC-V. The same people who say this is never going to happen are the same ones that said open source would never take off a few decades back. In the end, companies and developers will be reluctant to invest in proprietary hardware that a single company controls. Investing in Apple as a developer is a one-way ticket.
@EnochGitongaKimathi
@EnochGitongaKimathi Жыл бұрын
@@Netz0 I agree with you that there is a future where open source hardware and software will be mainstream. We are already heading there with RISC-V and Linux. In fact one of my wishes is for Valve to develop their own Custom SOC based on RISC-V for a future Steam Deck. However Open Source is not going to be the only future, it will coexist with Proprietary solutions. Manufacturing on advance nodes will be too costly for most open source hardware developers. Apple has already taken 90% of TSMC 3nm, leaving Samsung and Intel as the other options. Though both Samsung and Intel are improving in manufacturing they are not anywhere close or as good as TSMC. Still open source hardware developers will have to compete with Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and Mediatek. Google has already started porting Android (which is also Linux based) to the RISC-V ISA which is great for such a young ISA. If Google start developing their Tensor SOC based on RISC-V that will be an even bigger boast for open source hardware. Game Developers are more and more adopting different platforms instead of putting all their eggs in one basket. The Apple Ecosystem is too big for them to ignore. Right now big game studios can be a bit hesitant in developing for Apple platforms because of the way Apple restricts their stores. However Apple is big enough to buy or start their own studios. It is easy to develop the same game that can be played on an iOS, iPadOS, MacOS and VisionOS. It is too huge a platform to ignore for developers. For now developing for Sony's PlayStation, Microsoft's Xbox and Windows Platform allows for Developers to ignore Apple. However now that the transition to Apple Silicon is over, I have a feeling Apple will double down on gaming. Apple understand that adding another new platform is going to be a challenge for all but the big studios and have done a lot to help indie studios by progressively improving and making it easier for developers. My prediction is in 2025 Apple will launch their gaming platform when they also launch a more consumer friendly VR solution.

The more interesting part of this for me is not necessarily what this means for Macs, but actually what this could potentially mean for Vision Pro… if these games are running on a fanless M1 Air, who knows what types of games we will be able to play on this next Spatial Computing platform in the future! @@tonyburzio4107 I think it's already possible. with the m1/m2. For example, Metro Exodus and No Man's Sky run insanely well on the 14 inch base m1 pro. Let's hope more developers port over their games as the m1 line up would make great gaming laptops with low power churning out intensive graphics and great screens (at least the macbook pro/max line with XDR). On both games I get 2k ultrawide high settings with frame rates in the 80-90's. Didn't buy this laptop for gaming but it's becoming suprisingly a bit of a beast.

The reason why they released the tool kit might have something to do with the zero game demo of vision pro. 😂 If devs are really working to bring real games on Mac, I’m pretty sure apple will try to make a version of vision to just take over the market share of meta quest. I'm pretty sure in that video where they show case the game with 30 vs 60 fps is that the 30 fps was the translated one and 60 fps was the native port. They said in the video that the bottlenecks there was most likely due to the overhead of instruction translation or differences caused by API translation. Those are not issue you can really fix on your own.
