Yep definitely a day one purchase for me. Working together with my Ultra2, the ring can track my fitness, sleep and metabolic health. As I get older, type 2 diabetes, dementia and falling becomes more and more of a concern so these devices keep me on top of my health.

There are plenty of people who do all of the above but still suffer from various ailments that they are genetically predisposed to and these may become more apparent as they get older. Smart devices are simply means to help track how well they are adhering to and how they can improve open existing healthful practices. I’m not an Apple smartwatch owner, but I do have an Ultrahuman ring. - a non-diabetic, healthy range individual.

@@MichaelTFarm I reckon that I was too harsh on my approach, but I didn't want to roast the guy but yet to say that many people only start to pay attention to some tech because Apple does it. For example, NFC exists in Android for years and many Apple fans always said that it was useless but when Apple introduced it everyone was amazed. That's what pisses me off. Still, I'd like to know if there's any study that compares people that use gadgets vs people that don't and their overall health metrics. In my small sample (friends, family) I don't see a correlation between gadgets and better health. The thing is that the accuracy of today's devices isn't very good so I don't know if you should trust it. For example, the oxygen saturation is very erratic, the same for hear rate and it has been around for more than a decade, I wonder how accurate blood sugar level will be monitored with accuracy.

I literally just charge my watch while I’m showering, brushing teeth etc in the morning and never worry about it. I’ve been using it for sleep tracking for years. Not sure why everyone makes such a big deal about charging the watch

I have a Mii band for steps, sleep, heart rate, exercise tracking etc. My buddy kindly gave me his old Apple Watch (gen4 I think) after less than a week I was like nah and it went in the drawer, because the Mii band was lighter, lasted days and days on a single charge and did all I needed and more. I think an apple ring might be a perfect alternative.

You can get more accurate reading on your finger, like temp info etc. in some areas instead of wrists, and the ring would track stuff when your watch or phone is not around, longer battery life, and more comfortable while sleeping. Plus whatever else they throw in. With better info, the our ring can alert you when you are getting sick sometimes, before you realize it or see symptoms sometimes which is nice, so i think apple would do something like it, plus hopefully more.

@@mootsym No need for notifications, since you can just charge it like a regular smart ring, but if you are fidgety anyway, then wouldn't it make sense to convert the kinetic energy (that otherwise would be wasted) into electrical current that can recharge the battery. The battery isn't big anyway, and the ring only sips very little energy, so it would not be difficult to get significant improvements in battery life from even incidental or accidental rotations. Scales exist that you can charge by pumping a button 2-3 times with your foot before you step on them, and that gives sufficient energy to weigh you and measure some of those extra things like body fat percentage and such. If kinetic energy can power scales, then surely the rotating motion of the ring (even if only accidentally triggered) would contribute meaningful amounts of energy to its battery.

You can only measure glucose accuratly with blood samples. It would be a gimmicky as useless as the oxigen saturation feature, because it is not medical grade. Just avoid sugar, especially in the morning, eat well and exercise and you'll be good. The ring won't do anything for you in that regard.

Don't ya think it's much more likely to be planned as a controller for a potential Apple Vision Air that comes with less precise or even no finger tracking? I very much doubt that apple would introduce direct competition to the Apple Watch as one of their most profitable products of all time considering they have always been extremely careful to not give the iPad specific desktop features and making it a competitor to MacBooks.

As a wearer of an Apple watch, I would 100% rather wear a ring if it can provide the same accuracy in health data. Much more comfortable and don't need an extra screen on me at all times. Assuming it was entirely water tight so I can wash my hands, take a shower, etc. then I don't see why it would ever come off except to charge. The thing apple does best with accessories is ecosystem consistency and dependability. Knowing my ring would work as well as my AirPods, I wouldn't need a screen on it, maybe just some haptics.

Sleep tracking with the Ultra is not a problem. Its battery can last for 3 days. Every 2 days when battery goes down to 30%, I charge it while in the shower and then it's good to go. Wearing the watch to bed is not that uncomfortable either. But I do love the ring's form factor more.

I think the ring could still play a big part in Apple’s long-term vision in the augmented reality space. Perhaps the large camera array on the Vision Pro is what enables the current hand tracking. An AR focused focus version like the reported glasses may only have Lidar and need a more “hands-on” way of tracking your movement

I don't think Apple has all these patents for using it as a smart ring ''as a front''. That'd be a huge waste of time/money. Imagine what a ring (or several rings) could do when it comes to haptics in VR/AR/MR. 1) ''Feeling" digital objects like a keyboard as if you were typing on a real keyboard OR pulling a real trigger in a game. 2) Using Apple Vision Pro at night when the cameras can't pick up your hand movements.

I don't get it. Apple makes more money with their Watch, which does everything the Ring does, but so much more. Steve Jobs always said, "I’m as proud of what we don’t do as I am of what we choose to do.” Better for Apple will give 3rd parties compatibility access for their Rings and let them compete to the bottom while Apple profits from more expensive tech.
