The ad seems to be using practical effects, which means that they have collected these expensive, sentimental, or otherwise valuable items and really crushed them to a state of irreparability. It's debatable to me whether this was practical effects or CGI - it would seem to be a mix of both in my eyes. The point of contention is over the destruction of valuable items that were in perfectly good condition. It may be their right to destroy items that they purchased, but the popular sentiment seems to be that purchasing such items just to destroy them for an ad is a waste and a shame.

the reason behind this ipad trailer: 1st the reason why they were crushing those items is because theyre trying to show that the new ipad is really good for artists and also creativity. @@sonic_enjoyer LG did a similar ad before with the same concept. I think the reason the Apple ad got a greater reaction is that it seemed to revel in the destruction. This changed the meaning from "this device can do all these things" to "we want to destroy all the things you love and make you use our device." The ad focused on the wrong thing and failed for that reason.
