Man, it hurts me to see Starlight like this. A couple times it almost looked like she was going to cry when Discord said Starlight was a disappointment to Twilight. That there shows how close she has become to Twilight. That just the thought of disappointing her closest friend hurts her that deeply.

Everyone after Starlight blew Discord into Oblivion: Yeah! About damn time Appulgek: Is he ok?

Of course Discord didn't suffer any consequences. Aside from Fluttershy, who's capable of making any consequences stick with him? He's capable of literally rewritting reality.

I really missed these moments between Starlight and Spike. They play off each other so well. We need more episodes with the two of them.

It seemed what Starlight meant by when she said "I was thinking too much like a Headmare" she meant that she was so focused on trying to run the school like Twilight, that she missed the signs that Discord was feeling left out, and if she'd thought like she would've as a Guidance Counselor, she'll picked that up.

anyone else immediately realise something was wrong as soon as they got called by the map? The only times they've all been called was when they've had a massive boss to face and at this point in time, there's no one. Also, I was so happy when Starlight blasted at Discord so I didn't have to do it, meanwhile Applegeek was like 'is he okay?' Discord pissed me off so much in this episode Starlight was trying to teach and protect the students while discord was messing it all up, I'm genuinely annoyed at that. I'm also annoyed at Starlight's apology, I understand where she's coming from and why she apologised but I think it should've been Discord who apologised to the entire school.

I think we got a lost opportunity for a really good episode. The way they had Spitfire grouped in with Starlight's close friends Maud and Trixie makes me wonder if the two also developed a friendship off screen. Which made me wish there had been a Starlight /Wonderbolt episode.

Very big problem now. This means the Mane 7 can't really trust the map now. They know Discord can and will mess with the system. They can't really ignore a call either because it might be real. What if during this fake one, a real one was supposed to spring up and they missed it because of Discord's bs. What if by missing this call, they missed the chance to stop a pony from becoming a villian?

There's a big difference between Starlight and Discord. Starlight is/was power-hungry. Discord disrupts Harmony. It's still the nature of his existence whether he's good or evil.

I think the big problem is they really don't have a deterint to stop Discord from doing stuff like this, outside of the EOH, which I still think are only really effective as long as Discord doesn't take them seriously. His friendship with Fluttershy is a very flimsy thing holding him from going full villian again.

Starlight’s emotions being the source of her powerful, magical feats...that is a very interesting thing to point out. It seems like Starlight might be getting some backlash from people due to her so-called “OP magical prowess,” making her seem that her magic transcends alicorn magic and this emotionally driven magic you spoke of does seem legit. In any case, I don’t think Starlight should be faulted for having this kind of package within her magical abilities.

Technically, since it's Discord we're dealing with, we still can't be sure if twittermites are real.

My mind was blown when I saw this episode. There is nothing Discord can't do and I loved all the nods and cameos.

Starlight used Solarbeam! Its Super Effective! Discord fainted!

Starlight pretty much killed Discord, that's what she did, lol. She "banned" his body, but his "ghost" / sprirt/ soul was still able to exist and haunt things.

This the most q-like discord episode yet, as many times as he wanted to play captain and pushed things because of it. P.S. you cant put gravity down. If there's no gravity, there's no down.

I'm thinking she meant she was viewing the situation from the wrong perspective. Because, there are times where the answer to resolving a situation or scenario lies in changing the way you're thinking, the way you view it and then to change your methods accordingly. Like when Twilight had to take a step back, acknowledge she couldn't defeat Starlight or fix the situation continuing on as she was, so she changed tactics by getting Starlight to fix it herself. Here, starlight had to stop seeing Discord as a problem to fix and instead see him as her friend and take a second to analyze why he was reacting the way he was. (Not saying whether I agree and not interested in arguing -looking at you other commenters lol)

I feel like Starlight blasting him with magic is literally the only way to keep him out of the school and that still didn't work. Spike said, "why didn't you talk to him?" I feel like she was talking to him this whole episode. He put the kids in real danger, he needed to go. Not to mention, he literally had no reason to go after Starlight. She has never done anything wrong to him, and the excuse of oh "discord is being discord" through the episode is no excuse for his behavior. Also him saying he wasn't invited to the school opening, im pretty sure he could've just shown up without an invite

If you actually look closely at their cutiemarks on the map at the start, they look different than usual. Instead of Twilight's being in the centre surrounded by the others, they're in a full circle. Nice touch animators.😉

Even though I’m not a fan of Discord here, that didn’t stop me from enjoying the episode itself. Judging from that “summons from the map,” I was expecting that we’d be seeing a side episode with the mane six and what they went through. How was it saying being a 'headmare' was bad? All she was saying was she needed to think like a counseler, that's not sayin one is better then the other, just the each job is based on certain thins, and tends to think more about certain aspects. As 'headmare' she was trying to stay in control of things and working on running the school, rather then stopping to think over what was causing Discord to act like this. Neither is better, just meant she was using the wrong tool kit for this issue As to Discord, yeah he could have asked them, but Discord seems to have it in his head that if they really cared about him, they'd ask him first. He seems to have that mix of egotism and yet fragility when it comes to dealing with others. So when not asked, he takes it as an insult because he's worried they might not actually like him, and then upset at feeling that way, and then transfers that anger towards the pony that made him feel that way. As you said, he's not very emotionally mature. As to punishing him.... let's face it, how are you going to do that?

Yeah, I didn't like the way he treated Starlight here. She's shown nothing but respect for him anytime they were on screen together before this and during the first half of this, something that doesn't happen often. She even enjoyed his antics in Celestial Advice. (She was the only one laughing at what he was doing.) That's more then 5 of the other Main 7 do for him. Heck, she's probably one of the only ones who could really appreciate him. She never met him when he was a full villian (so wouldn't have that clouding her view on him) and the fact she was a villain herself means she can relate to him. But then he turns around and does this to her...

Applegeek, if none of his other works, you should try DWK's video Why Discord is an a**hole. He probably sums up what a lot of what people don't like about him. Plus he's really entertaining.

This was a hilarious one and as I know by now that you have watched episode 15, that one was a real punch in the feels for me. Cried during Gallus' reveal as an orphan.

I thought Starlight killed Discord at first, like he seemed to get vapourised and then he reappeared as a ghost.

I don't think 'head mare' was painted as a bad thing. She meant that she had to think like a guidance counselor in order to solve the problem at hand. And I agree it would have gone smoothly without Discord, but those were the circumstances she faced, and she felt like she hadn't handled it right.

If Trixie was my teacher, I would totally ace that class.

This episode’s moral should’ve really centered around Discord and how you shouldn’t excuse a friend’s behavior as them just “being them” if it’s obnoxious and hurtful. I get that he felt left out, but he full-on verbally abused Starlight, made her feel useless, and willfully endangered the students multiple times without any show of remorse. I was fully anticipating Fluttershy returning at the end and tearing him a new one. This should’ve been an episode that showed Discord that he needs to put some work into being kind and helpful if he wants anyone other than Fluttershy to truly want him around, which is what he was so upset about in this episode in the first place. Also would’ve been a good idea to have Starlight teach him this and become a good friend of his, in a way that none of the Mane Six other than a Fluttershy have ever tried.

I mean starlight is one of the most talented Unicorns we’ve met so far in the franchise, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a little better than Twilight herself

The lesson of this episode could’ve worked if Discord simply used his magic to get the students to goof off rather than follow Twilight’s plans. This would’ve made Starlight feel like she’s failing Twilight, and she’d try desperately to get everything back on track for the plans, only to eventually realize that she should be doing things her own way and that Discord is trying to help her realize this. Not only would this make Discord seem like far less of a jerk, but it would show him getting involved with the school in a positive way. And it could legitimately bolster Starlight’s apology as she tells Discord that she’s sorry that he hasn’t been involved and that everyone underestimated how well he understood friendship. Heck, it would even support her saying that she needs to think more like a guidance counselor, as she would forget the students’ wants and needs in favor of perfectly following Twilight’s plans. That may be a bit rambling for an episode that came out years ago, but I just desperately wish that this episode had been executed better. It could’ve been great development for Starlight and Discord.

A few things I liked in this episode, mostly in Trixie's class. First being that she was at least willing to place a rule or two down in regards to Discord and his fruit calls, even if it was really just so she could perform her magic show. The other one was also with her and how she did mention that magic was the most important element. I mean heck, she could have easily made something up right then and there, but instead, went with the truth itself. Last but not least, and possibly my favoute thing in the class, Trixie was ready to perform her magic trick... and Ocellus was ready to take notes. Just so adorable that was. Edit: Also Applegeek, I'm afraid you missed the first reference to Princess Spike, but that wasn't not your fault, it was in the audio glitch near the start. Simply Spike said "No thank you, being a princess for Twilight as hard enough" :)

I know Discord was just being himself, and that's forgivable. However, I couldn't stop myself from finding him a little annoying during this episode and being a little disappointed that there were no consequences for his actions. I think he should've been apologizing to Starlight instead.

Fun thing about this episode was we finally had an OP character off and got our answer as to who was more OP. In the end Discord turned out to be the most OP. It sure looked like he knew he was going to be blasted after what he said at 15:58 but he was planning on it and didn't care. Starlight ended up apologizing even though Discord was somewhat in the wrong because she didn't have much choice after she realized just how ridiculously OP Discord is. If that blast didn't stop him what would? He seems to have endless backup plans, remember the season 4 premiere. It wasn't about Discord learning anything in this episode, I think the lesson was learned by Starlight that sometimes you just have to bite the bullet with a character as impossible as Dicsord

19:06 A thing I don't like is how in the mlp movies Clover the Clever is depicted as a stallion but in the image right there in the show Clover the Clever is depicted as a mare.

I've seen this episode a few times, two things about it. One, Starlight is overpowered and two I personally think they should have Sunset as a cameo sub teacher, maybe a lesson on empathy or forgiveness. (Someone please do a fanfic/fimfic of that)

Discord might be acting as a disabled child in life metaphorically. By his weird understanding of the world. He might have been thrown out of many gatherings, to being alone most of his life. Making him have magic like this, makes him want to cause trouble. Causing trouble equals pony interactions. Meaning, he thinks this is a good thing. idk, something to think about.

Whether you saw my Twitter message or not, I do have a strong feeling this season is repeating S7. Their talking about historical figures, showing us them, and leading to their reveal. Remember that Celestia even said that the 3 pony tribes had the same trouble as the current non pony races.

APPLEGEEK IS BACK!! WHY AM I YELLING?! I personally think Starlight just reached level 73 and wanted to try out Hyper Beam at the earliest opportunity. As we can see from the results, her overpowered Special Attack means that it's quite potent even if she doesn't get STAB as she normally would using Psybeam to attack.

It's still crazy that discord just both got killed and brought back to life by a unicorn and not an alicorn

I hated Discord in this episode, he caused utter chaos and when Starlight put her hoof down, she had to apologize, instead of him realizing that their are certain limits and rules to running a school. And then Discord wanted to complain and cry when Starlight stopped him from causing more destruction. Instead him controlling his actions, I know he's the embodiement of chaos but still. The episode should have went in that direction. He was a jerk in this episode. Pardon my French.

Discord would make a great substitute teacher. He could use his chaos magic and help make the lessons more fun for the students. Heck, he, Spike, and BigMac can do a Ogres and Oubliettes-liked activities for the students where they'll have tp work together and defeat the Squid lord. ;p

Discord does steal the show, but I don't think it detracted from this being a starlight episode. As for his behavior in any episode, I get the impression that he is a high functioning sociopath.

My thoughts on Starlight's spell: It's a simple banishing spell. On any normal pony, it would've worked fine, and probably would've looked like any normal spell (like teleportation, actually). However, he's discord. She had to pump a shiftton of power into it for it to work at all. But of course discord found a loophole.
