A handy tip to prevent the connecting wires from slipping back out of the accessible area of the oven and into the wall is, after unscrewing the bracket and before disconnecting the wires, attach some good strong spring-release clips or clothespins to the wire that comes out of the wall (behind the clip end, so you can still access the clip to reattach the new element). They won't slip back into the insulation and out of your reach that way.

@@LydiannaBella Yikes! So sorry that happened to you! Yes, of course, one should remove the clips when the new bracket is reconnected to the wires and the repair is completed. I imagine the wire in the clips would conduct electricity!

@@appliancepartspros My bottom element is not working on my GE oven. I saw some tiny gray residue "piles" under the element which is NOT a good sign. No wonder the oven would not heat to 400 degrees tonight. Time to get a new part. Thanks for the video and it seems easy enough for me to fix.

This video altho nearly 10 yo was a great help in giving my husband confidence to replace the worn out oven element in our high end GE Cafe duel fuel range. Many thanks! We have had our range since 2012, the year this video went live! Unfortunately a replacement element could not be found on your site so we had to purchase direct from GE. Still saved a load of money that an installer would have charged. Our old element gave out after a recent automatic oven cleaning, which I'd set at 4 hrs because the oven was pretty grody. A couple of things for others doing this procedure might like to be aware of. First, we could not get the oven door off no matter how hard/long my husband tried. The right side came out fine, but not the left side. This made his 64 yo overweight body suffer greatly trying to access the element connection in the back. I can see why installers charge so much for their service. Second, it took him forever to get one side of the connectors on the old element detached from the wires in the back. Lots of curse words, lunch and a short sit down later he finally got it disconnected. The new one went in just fine and seems to be working properly. After over 40 yrs of home ownership and numerous homes, we have learned that rarely are these DIY home improvement jobs as easily done as you hope/think they will be.

I was going to hire a repair service to replace the bake element until I came across this video. I purchased the replacement part from the website. I had to use a different screwdriver and I grabbed some needle-nose pliers to hold the connectors from the oven. I completed the replacement and my oven is working well. Thank you so much for these instructions, I was able to save money doing it myself!

The wb44x200 is used on a lot of older stoves and has screw on wire connections. The wb44k5012 is a newer element with push on wire terminals. The elements are different sizes also, you should go to our site and look up the bake element with your model number, to make sure you are installing the correct one.

Great video, never had to replace a heating unit before, after watching your video i gathered the tools and went to work. just like the video i remove the wires from the element and bam one of the wires retracted and I had to take the back panel off. the one wire was looped around a bunch of other wires and had to reloop it under the other wires. I refeed it back and had plenty of extra wire to attach the element. after that the rest is history... works great. Thanks for the video and the heads up on taking the back panel off and putting the wire back to reattach element.

Thank you very kindly, just fixed my Maytag where the bottom heating element shorted itself out. Be aware different companies use different fasteners, hex head bolts, hex end bolts, Phillips and sometimes even flat heads. Make sure to get a few pictures of the damaged heating element before the removal and after for ordering the relative replacement part(s). I ended up using smaller vice grips to keep the two wires from slipping back into the insulation back of the oven.

Depending on model your wire holes may be even smaller but big enough for wire clips to go back into back of oven. I use bread ties to attach to wires so they don't fall back into stove and take them off after I re attach new element.

@stevenwiegers4033 3 жыл бұрын
Using bread ties is a great idea! I generally use alligator clips. I once had a wire retreat into the back; no biggie, but then had to take the back panel off as Matt mentions in the video. This would be real pain for a wall unit!

I have replaced the oven element on my Frigidaire by using this video - Thanks! However, the oven will now not engage when I try to preheat it. I replaced the element because the previous one had the protective covering burn off on one side. I ordered the replacement on Amazon, and installed it. When I try to preheat the oven, there is no typical sound of the oven engaging, and it does not heat up. Did I do something possibly when I replaced the element that could cause this?

I replaced the burned out heating element and measured the resistance of 19 ohms at the terminals when I connected it, but both heating elements do not work and do not heat up. Apparently, when the heating element was shorted on itself, some element inside the firebox was damaged too, although inside the oven the light works and backlight of the mode switching buttons also functional. I have to figure out now how to remove the oven from the cabinet.

Matt, we did exactly what you did but as soon as we plugged it in, the right connection blew up. We unplugged it and we opened the back and saw the burn black marks. We did everything you did and was so gentle. We bought the element off of Amazon and I don’t know if the connection on the right side was at fault. Now I guess we’ll have to get someone in here to help with stripping the wire and connect it to a new piece that connects to the element. We’ll have to buy another element, something we can’t afford to do. My hubby passed away 2yrs ago and had no life insurance and -$500 in his account. We barely live pay cheque to pay cheque. I’m going on disability and that will help out, but we need a stove/oven now. Would it be hard for us to strip the wire attach the connector and then attach it like before? I think what happened is the element was touching the insulation (?) and that’s why it blew. 🤷‍♀️ I’d sure appreciate any advice please. Thank you.

You would probably want to go with a old style thermostat with a sensing bulb, to go in the cavity. The newer ones have a control board and would be more expensive to set up. Here is a two wire one that will go from warm to 500. It even comes with a matching knob. However you mount it make sure you do not kink the bulb or tube. You can go to our site and look at part number AP4013521.

I have old Kenmore electric range. The broken element had about 4" from the mounting bracket to the terminal end. The terminal end connections to wires were behind the back wall of the range. The replacement bake element I got has 3" from the mounting bracket to the terminal end. In this case connections will stay inside (not behind back wall, but inside the insulation). Is this safe?

As long as the replacement element is the manufacturer suggested direct replacement, and is an OEM part, then it should be safe.

Hi there, I tried this repair on my Hotpoint oven model no. Rb526dp1ww. I got the bake element installed no problem thanks to your video, but now a fuse blows when I try to turn the oven back on. In my replacement part the prongs in the back are straight, instead of bent like they were on the old part, but other than that I don’t really see any differences. Is this a common problem?

Question, can you use the range with the old element removed? Like if I take out my old element, and not have a replacement in yet, can I still use the range top?

Great video. I have a similar element that's flaking. Should I replace it?

It may be burned on food residue that's flaking. If it's the element itself that's flaking, then it sounds like the element is burning out in that spot and will need to be replaced.

My old element was 2700 watts but I only could get a 3000 watts element. In the description of the element it said it replaces 3000 watts, and 2750-3000 watts. Also, on the new element, the plate of the element is not flush with the back of the oven, leaving a large gap open for fire to go up the back of my stove. Can I leave it that way or should I drill new holes to make it flush. I am afraid that the plastic wire sheathing on the connectors will melt and short out. My stove is a 1977 Admiral. Can you please get back to me with your feedback? Thelma

Does it matter if the slip connector flat side is up or down. I replaced the element, it was easy but there was some smoke coming up from the back of the oven. Is it because the element is new or maybe because I got the connector on upside down?
