If your electric range oven wont turn on and is not heating, there is a good chance that the bake element has gone bad. In this video I show how to replace a bake element in an electric oven, how and where to buy a new element, how to to check if the element is really bad using resistance and voltage readings, and I also try to address many of the frequently asked questions that arise when someone tackles a job like this. Hope you found this video helpful and I wish you the best of luck with the oven!

Liked and subbed! Gotta go dig out my meter, but this was so clear and easy, great teaching skills. You covered safety and all those small, but irritating things that can be easily overcome. I have confidence that although I will be researching and pausing, I can now see why my elements stopped working. It may even be loose connections, but whatever it is I'm going to figure out thanks to you. You have no idea how much this helps, I'm a older lady who is disabled and on a fixed income. But I can handle doing this mentally and have someone to help physically. You're a blessing! 🙏

Emboldened by your video, I fixed my oven. I noticed when the back cover was removed that ALL the wire in the back was rated for 150C/300F. It seems like the wiring in an oven should be rated for a higher temperature.

Just did this repair and it worked great! Our oven stopped igniting altogether before we got the part but the repair was pretty easy. I didn’t use WD40 at all, I just made sure to use an impact driver to remove all of the screws and I was fine.

I keep a piece of pvc pipe to roll appliances out that are in tight spaces. Pull it out just enough to put the pipe under the front then pull it out until pipe hits the back legs. If need be, I can tilt it to move the pipe back to the front and roll it out more. I’m thinking my pipe I use is maybe 1 1/4 or 1 1/2”.

Great video Had a problem with our Electrolux double oven, slow heating & not working at times. Checked the temperature sensor, hi temp. Cutouts, elements & everything appeared ok. Checked with a few buddies looking for some insight, before replacing the control panel. For some reason the following procedure is not included too reset the main control panel with the oven manual? The Great Reset Procedure 1. Main control panel, enter the preference / wrench. 2. rse will show no. 3. Enter plus sign & then enter yes. 4. Enter start.

Excellent explanation. I had assumed that when the oven was off there would be no voltage on the leads. I " verified" this by checking voltage across the leads. Got 0. Tested each to ground( but apparently didn't get a good ground) . Replaced the element and when reinstalling the element, it shorted out! Retested each lead and got 115v on one! At that point I found your video hoping to find out if that could be

@WordofAdviceTV 3 жыл бұрын
@Dan Kelley Perhaps I can film a video like that later. But the prices also vary depending on what store you buy things at. (For example milk prices are all different in Costco, Walmart, Target, and Safeway) Is there anything particular you were wondering about or just in general?
@dankelley9361
@dankelley9361 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, nothing specific. Just wondering how your finding prices of goods and services in general. I’ve always heard prices were quite a bit higher there and though I’d ask an almost native there😁
@WordofAdviceTV
@WordofAdviceTV 3 жыл бұрын
@@dankelley9361 I found that the prices here are actually not that expensive. When we were moving here we were under the impression that everything is almost double the price. Tools, most of the food, hardware and everything else is slightly more expensive but definitely not double. Rent and houses are more expensive though. Those may actually be double. Utilities 1.5 to 2x as well. Most people don't have garbage pick up, they drive their garbage to the waste station themselves. (free) Gas prices are about the same as most other states, especially if you fill up in Costco (lowest prices on the island. $3.50/gl). Used and new cars are a few thousand more than mainland in general. So yes, it is indeed more expensive but I would say it's not overwhelmingly more expensive than mainland.

When checking voltage by your method you are basically showing the voltage drop across a resistor (the 15.5 ohms of the heating element). If the element is failed open then you will not read any voltage across it. Please warn your viewers against checking the voltage your way if there is no continuity (valid resistance) showing. Another way would be to check for voltage with one lead connected to ground and the other to a terminal of the heating element. Thanks for your efforts in clearly explaining the rest of the story.

Hi. Great video Learned so much. Here's my question: I bought new element, went to put it in. Because I have an antique oven, someone had replaced element with wrong one and had used screws on in spade connectors, making them unusable for the new element. Can I just replace the spade connectors, or do I have to replace all the wiring? Thank you in advance.

How about checking the elements resistance to determine its open before replacing it? If its not, then most likely you have a control board problem.

Thank you! And I can only agree. After I put the screws in, I thought the same thing 😅

My oven is a little older and has two knobs (it's a double 24-inch oven(s) ). Each knob is for each oven. I don't see a "motherboard" or "oven control board" or anything like that. Just two knobs and an element in each oven. If my knobs are turned to "on" should I get voltage at the element(s) and if not, is it the knobs that need replacing?

I have a bizarre situation and I couldn't find any video addressing that. My bake element keeps shutting off once it heats up but the broiler is okay. I replaced it with a new one but still the problem persisted. I checked the Thermal Fuse and there is continuity. And also it does not clean itself I do not know if that is connected to it. But anything else is working fine.
