In this video course, most of the topic of applied behavior analysis, ABA, are covered. The video course begins with an introduction of what ABA, applied behavior analysis is and how it is used. The importance of ABA is discussed as well as some of the concepts of applied behavior topics. Next is the overview which includes the characteristics, measurement, Antecedent behavior consequence charts, and teaching strategies. Also the components of ABA are dissected. The first component is task analysis, then fading, followed by generalization, prompting, shaping, extinction. Lastly, is functional behavioral assessments, fbas, which include Behavior intervention plans.

Hi, I am a service designer with a 9 yr expereince in social development and I would like to know if ABA is applied to child behavior or if can it be applied to public health, and social cause projects with qualitative research /ethnography research as well. I am planning to do my masters in Beh. science and needed some assistance to understand the space better. Will await your response, thanks

This video is under the impression "autism" is a synonym for "misbehavior". The reason autistic children have certain behaviors and avoid others is not because they are assholes, it is because the behaviors are significantly more difficult than for you, possibly more than you can even imagine. Making eye contact with someone, giving your hand and smiling to greet someone is not a big deal, right? Imagine you were living on a planet with human looking aliens where it is custom to greet someone by eating a tablespoon full of salt. Of course the aliens are aware humans don't like this. So what will they do? Make a human acceptance day where they explain why not following the tradition does not make someone a bad person? Don't be silly, instead they make an ABA program where they teach humans not to make a face like they have just eaten a tablespoon full of salt. They are smiling now, so the salt is not harmful. Of course we also have to remove unwanted behaviors. Like drinking water in public because of the salt. Wouldn't you shut yourself in because you are afraid of the next tablespoon?

I definitely did not get the same impression as you when watching the video. The only time they mentioned Autism was in regard to teaching social skills, which isn't implying Autism is a misbehavior, just recognizing the fact that social difficulties are common among those with autism and that aba is frequently used in these situations. While having more acceptance for those with autism would be wonderful, it is also extremely beneficial to help teach skills that will help them interact more positively with others and their environment. Every human has maladaptive behaviors, just because someone is on the spectrum does not mean they are exempt from having to work on those behaviors. I'm not saying everyone with autism should be forced into acting like something they are not, but it is unreasonable to suggest that teaching social skills are a bad thing.

Autistic behaviors are incredibly important for the child's wellbeing. You can't ABA those behaviors away without harming them.

@@schwarzerritter5724 The last part is not always true. Are you trying to say self injurious behavior is important to the wellbeig of an autistic child? What about throwing tantrums, possibly hurting themselves or others in the process? Not everyone with autism exhibits these behaviors, but it's important that we have resources for those who do, and to not discount information that goes into effective and impactful treatment.

@@schwarzerritter5724 Probably as escape or avoidance behaviors. With your tablespoon of salt example, the goal is so that they only make a sour face, rather than slamming their head into something or throwing a tantrum. It isn't about "If they don't make a face, the problem goes away", it's about making sure they can deal with these kinds of situations when they are not with people who are as understanding.
