In today's video I continue working on my wife's 2004 Chevy Suburban, and I tackle the frame rust using a product I found on Amazon called Corroseal which is a rust converter, it's pretty awesome. Watch to see it in action.

I used a Harbor Freight air needle scaler to remove the old undercoating on my truck. I had a small Makita air compressor and the combo did not disappoint.

That is a very useful tool, good call on using it. It definitely would have saved me a lot of time. 👍

For prepping, I would think a cordless drill with a brass wire brush set would do well. End brush, wire wheel, etc. Especially where it's too tight to reach and stroke a manual brush. Strong enough to remove most loose rust, yet soft enough to prevent from removing everything.

For sure! Probably would have definitely saved me some time too. I actually don't know why I didn't use one..🤷‍♂️. But any means possible would work. This frame was in sad shape, but I am happy to say it still looks good to this day after this overhaul. 👍 It was definitely worth all the work and back ache!

Nice video! Gotta say, you've got a knack for speaking and demoing. Most can't do both at the same time. Impressed with the product as well. Can't wait to see the rest of the project as it progresses. In your experience, outside of an outright rust-through or break, how do you determine when a frame is just too far gone? Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing the Corroseal product. Looks like it works really well. BTW, you remind me of my nephew. He's a good person, so that's a compliment. 😁

As far as how to determine if a frame is to far gone I don't have an specific answer (everyone is got their own opinions on that I'm sure) BUT I would say if your hammer or screwdriver goes through it you may have an issue .. Coroseal, Rust-Oleum then Fluid Film.

Any specific brand you would recommend? I did look at 3M cavity wax, not sure if that is the same thing though...

@@ChallengeTheBuildI prefer KBS chassis paint,and cavity wax! Corroseal is a great product,I have used it for about 6 years and it actually does what it says!

I have used Corroseal for so many projects... everything from rusty door hinges, wheelbarrows, outdoor furniture, fencing, and of course automotive applications. It is the MOST AMAZING PRODUCT I have ever used. I spent $16 on a 32oz bottle about 10 years ago & I still have about 12oz left!!!! IMPORTANT TIP: DO NOT STORE anywhere that will get HOT, like a GARAGE or SHED. The material at the bottom of the bottle will rubberize & you will lose product.

I have looked at quite a few Corroseal reviews and see your very same review word for word on every one of them. Do you work for Corroseal?

@danielb5081 Nope, I do not work for them or am I affiliated with them, I just needed a rust converter and bought Corroseal. If my video is similar in what I am saying it's probably because the stuff works. 🤷‍♂️ I never even watched any other videos about it before I bought it. It works good and I would definitely use it again...Hope this helps👍

Hey Your inside a garage that’s big plus. You have a compressor then you need a needle scaler. I see you had the truck up off wheels on jack stands. For safety get a 4’x4’x6’ and raise up on a nice pump jack (3 ton ) my preference up across to one of the ends your working under. You did excellent job. I subscribed

Great work! How woukd you compare this to the more expensive products that say they do this same thing? The price mark on this product seems to be way better than the others!

Thanks. I honestly have very little input when it comes to comparing this product with any others. I did use a brand call Black Diamond (🤔I think), basically the same concept just black diamond was expensive which led me to find and try this. I would definitely use corroseal again. The frame is still doing really well after all this time... For added protection after corroseal I would recommend a top coat of some kind of paint all depending what you are working on.. 👍 Thanks for watching and commenting.

Why not use a cheap material blaster and sand or soda to speed this up?

You definitely could... The nice thing about corroseal is you don't have to remove all the rust just the loose rust and any dirt or oil/grease... But you definitely could use an abrasives blaster if you have one.. 👍

Rust converters are useless. Use Cosmoline and Fluid film. FF is best.

Never heard of cosmoline, 3m cavity is good stuff also.. Ive used other converters in the past, and I have had the best success with this one..

Corroseal does work,and I have trucks that are 5 years plus that I did and are still 90 percent! That is a pretty good ratio! Clean up with wire brush and needle scaler,clean surface off,apply 2 to 3 coats of Corroseal,paint with KBS frame paint,let cure for at least 2 weeks,then NH oil back to black! P.S,kBS Rust Blast is also a good product

@@petersmart1999 Go check my tread "10 years of using cold galvanizing compound" and "Planing to go south to replace Bed, bumpers etc.". I used rust reformer from Rustoleum.
