The heat shrinks the vit l material as well as heat up the adhesive that's heat sensitive vinyl wrap. Remember all vinyl isn't the same. So when you go to a store or online, you want PERMANENT VINYL OR HEAT TRANSFER VINYL. to correctly have the design lined up you'd want transfer tape as well(not used in the video) this makes it much easier to transfer the design without it being off.

How did it hold up with warping? How long does this last?

It’s still attached and looks exactly the same. He doesn’t use it to play basketball though so I don’t know how that would work if it was bounced around a lot, it just sits on a shelf.

You never need to use a specific application for art. Even though this is lettering it's technically art, so use any drawing app or software. It just needs to get brought up on Cricut so you can cut the design.
